The City of Philadelphia today allowed one of it's most enduring and iconic locations to be dismantled.

309 Broad St is finally being demolished.  The studio that gave Cameo Parkway so many of it's hits, that saw John Madara and David White produce all those fantastic 45s, that saw the likes of The Four Perfections, Eddie Holman, The Orlons, Chubby Checker and a whole host of others stake their claims to a musical career and that legendary sound engineer Joe Tarsia bolted, screwed and rewired to create Sigma Sound Studio 2 for Gamble and Huff to launch TSOP on the world is no more.

The famous signs came down today. Shame on them.

Just thought it worth recording here.

Absolutely disgraceful. I am horrified. Clearly something is wrong there. I think some people like to say it's 'moving forward'...can you believe it.

seems like it was all about detroit at one time dave, very sad indeed...the connection with cameo parkway as well is even more poignant.....on the one hand r n' b and rock & roll turning into soul music which ushered in that labels eventual demise, to the phoenix rising from the flames in the form of philly....gamble & huff oversaw both era's and recorded many artists and legendary songs of the latter genre...hope the logo finds a deserving resting place.

Absolutely right Chalky, imagine how people in the UK would react if Abbey Rd studios was going to be demolished; but we didn't manage to save the Torch, Wheel, Mecca, Va Va,  Casino etc so soulies may better understand what a loss feels like.

I wonder if our UK experience of losing iconic venues makes us regard developers as well paid vandals who know the price but don't appreciate or understand the value.....
