Pete S Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Looks like a pirate release to me, see how the songwriter text isn't aligned? 1
Garswood Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 There's so many covers of Louie Louie , who did the original version anybody know?
Tlscapital Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Canadian? this is the Canadian release . Sometimes an American 45 will have two or three releases on different Canadian labels, but the Wand showed here is an USA release. I never saw a Canadian Wand by memory. There are few odd releases on Wand made at different pressing plants and consecutive runs variations due to change of ink, shortage of pre-printed labels… here's one; 2
Guest DELORENZO Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) Looks like a pirate release to me, see how the songwriter text isn't aligned I've found 2 things, here under Wand obviously https://45-sleeves.com/ and on Popsike https://www.popsike.com/Kingsmen-Louie-Louie-w-Northeast-only-label-Hear/330581932343.html Plus it has a "Bell Sound" stamp in the deadwax So still non the wiser ................ Robbk Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 That's a legitimate USA release pressed in a NY plant. It just had an odd label design for whatever reason (incompetency?). All Canadian pressings from that time should have had "Made in Canada" written on them. I think the REO was the only Canadian pressing during its original run. I think it was re-issued as an oldie on another Canadian label.
Mike Lofthouse Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Looks like a pirate release to me, see how the songwriter text isn't aligned? Pete - it think it is actually aligned 'correctly' - all the text is right justified as it is on normal Wand issues.....

I used to have a Canadian copy of the Independents "I love you, yes I do" on Wand, and it looked similar. I had bought it thinking it was a US demo at Wigan, but when I got it into proper light it turned out otherwise.
Mr Smithy Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Not sure where I heard this and have no idea as to it's kosherness but supposedly it was issued in the North East or West ( Can't remember which) USA only with this label before they started cranking them out to meet the demand. I may have to get me tin hat, but that's what I heard, somewhere, sometime.

They had it for a few months before it was out in The Midwest (and probably The East, as well). The Kingsmen were located in Seattle. I'm sure that Flo Greenberg just bought the masters, as I'm sure it was recorded in Seattle, with no Scepter/Wand people involved (e.g. Luther Dixon).
Tlscapital Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) yes Robb, first on a West Coast release (the Kingsmen were from & recorded 'Louie Louie in Portland, Oregon) then released later as suches in the USA and this variation that bears the same design as for the albums on Wand read the story of the song and all here if ever...https://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?displaypage=output.cfm&file_id=5206 Edited October 6, 2014 by tlscapital
