Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 To counteract the popular "Records I've Always Wanted To Hear" thread, I hought I'd post up five records I would prefer never to hear again: 1) MARVIN GAYE - "Let's Get it On" - any mix! 2) ACE SPECTRUM - "Don't Send Nobody Else" 3) GLEN MILLER - "Where Is The Love" 4) that dreadful KIRK FRANKLIN track that samples Patrice Rushen's "Haven't You Heard" 5) GLORIA SCOTT - "Too Much Love Making" (...no soundfiles, please!) What would be in your 'Foul Five'? TONE

paultp Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) Three little pigs - James Duncan (bacon) Got to agree with this one, I've never heard it played out though thankfully. I got a copy cheap when it was going for a ton or so but I hadn't heard it and when I put it on the deck I could not believe what came out of the speakers . How could anyone play it? why would anyone dance to it? Absolutely shite record I have one on ebay at the moment https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/sounds/exists...REE_LITTLE_PIGS Edited August 5, 2006 by paultp

Stillsoulin Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Totally agree, however, the vast majority of punters who turn up at soul do,s expect to hear them, and they always fill the floor, they pay the money so as dj,s we should give them what they want, frustrating but true. rob h.

Pete S Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Little Anthony " Better use your head " I could hear this every day of my life and I'd never get tired of hearing it. In fact I have heard it 100 times a year since 1975.

Yes you're right Rob , it's just that there's so many superb oldies that rarely get played these days , it amazes me that more people don't get bored by these constantly played records , I can't remember the last time I heard really well known oldies like The Poppies " Pain in my heart " or ultra soulful sides like Lou Edwards " Talkin ' bout poor folks " or Jo Armstead " I got the vibes " for instance , I know it's the DJ's job to entertain , but surely we should try and inspire them as well ? Best Wishes ,Eddie

Got to agree Pete. One of many that I never tire of, although probably partly due to the fact that I don't go to "Oldies" do's every weekend. I think playing a lot of the same oldies every weekend does actually kill off brilliant records. Jordi

Billy Freemantle Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I could hear this every day of my life and I'd never get tired of hearing it. I agree It baffles me that anyone could say that they never want to hear Little Anthony again. They just cannot be listening properly. The intro alone is a work of art that heralds the pleasures to come rather like the few seconds of hiss that tell you something good is coming on a record but which is missing on a CD. 'Better Use Your Head' is not just a record, it is as timeless a treasure as any piece of high classical or classic jazz. And it sums up the magic of Northern Soul. I have it on a loop as I type this. Never listen to it again? Better use your ears.
Pete S Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 You're right Jordi and Pete , Little Anthony is a great record , I've just heard it toooo much in recent times !! Best ,Eddie If you mean you've heard it 'out' too many times, then I know what you mean. Although I still like to hear it out on the 2 occasions a year I do go out
Guest Bearsy Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I better change my play list for saturday night then as i was thinking of playing all the above mentioed except Little Anthony of course, ps how much for little miss piggy ?
Monique Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I'm not over you yet -True Image Lonely Girl -Eric Mercury Mama's got a bag of her own- Anna King Pizza Pie Man-Roosevelt Crier Song of a woman-Gracie Dumas Luckily don't hear Eric Mercury out a lot!!
Mormar44 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I'm not over you yet - Song of a woman-Gracie Dumas Not heard Gracie Dumas out for years, wish I had coz I've always loved it. Praps you can tell me a venue where I could hear it. Certainly not been hammered like some of the other tracks been mentioned. Mark
Monique Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Always used to hear it at the 100 club . Ion used to play it ages ago and heard it quite a lot there over the years there. Loved the intro though and used to really like it and suddenly just went off it!! Sure I read once it was actually from a stage show!! If I hear it again anywhere I'll post it up.
Guest Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Well after your sales pitch it should fly out ive just sold my copy for £25 had it for years but never played it out
Ernie Andrews Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I could hear this every day of my life and I'd never get tired of hearing it. In fact I have heard it 100 times a year since 1975. Agree with Pete on this one - You must be going to the wrong venues. We play this once every blu moon- as nostalgia is good in small doses
Dave West Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 DOTTIE AND MILLIE AND THAT RECORD THAT SOUNDS LIKE A CABARET TUNE,THE ONE WHERE YOU IMAGINE A GUY IN A VELVET SUIT WITH HIS BOW TIE UNDONE WARBLING AWAY. YEAH YOUVE GOT IT " THE SNAKE" YUK
Stateside Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 The most overplayed over rated record that has ever graced a turntable has to be Luther VanDROSS "Never too much" followed closely by Just Brothers - "Sliced Tomatoes" then Deon Jackson (Bobby Vee in disguise) "Someday the sun will shine" - Joey De Larenzo - "Shove it where the sun don't shine" and finally Ace Spectrum - "Please send somebody else"
Russoul1 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 bill bush, over rated and over priced piece of shite russ
macca Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 today's 5 would be:- 1) ben zine - village of tears 2) barry benson - stay awhile baby 3) peggy march - if you loved me 4) paul anka - when we get there 5) jackie forrest - show me how to love (sorry pete!) some people speak of 1978 in hallowed terms, but by jingo there were some dungcakes flying around too. I think maybe we have to make a distinction between the merely overplayed & the dire. I never tire of hearing, in the right context, the tempos, the glories, eddie parker, johnny moore etc... macca
