Popular Post Markw Posted September 29, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Hi All Was with Gary Samways at the Llandudno weekender. He has posted this evening on Facebook that he has got back home to Swindon and he has been burgled. His entire collection (about 3,000 records) built up over 35+ on the scene is the only thing that has been pinched; as such, he surmises that it must be someone who knows him, knows about his collection and has some idea what to do with it. He is still getting his head around all this. The Police have been there and apparently been as helpful as they can be. Needless to say, our thoughts are with the guy. Any ideas, info, etc gratefully received. Feel free to message me at this stage if you have any info about a collection being offered, sudden items coming up from someone who perhaps you would not expect (some rare items in there - Gary has never sold a thing in his 35+ years of collecting), or any whispers you might have heard. I will pass on to Gary. Or, if you know Gary (I am sure many on here do), feel free to contact him direct on here or via FB. Please keep it to hard facts and info rather than general tips and advice. Thanks. Edited September 29, 2014 by markw 4

Stevegods Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) Not great at all .... but have to say that Social Media is one of the tools thieves now use to target prospects ... The fact that it may have been posted that the occupants of the property may have been away for the weekend ..leaves it very vulnerable and its another resource "low life's" can use to get an easier touch . I just hope it's no one that knows him or a friend of a friend ... these things can have a habit of turning out to be an acquaintance of some kind Its a very sad state of affairs .... but I had a mate get burgled last month while he was away on his honeymoon ( second marriage ) ... it was plastered all over his facebook page of where he was and for how long and every day to day step he was making .. Hate the bloody thing ... but I know it has its uses .. Very sorry to hear of his loss ..just hope he had them covered under his house contents insurance ... ( and i know that can never replace the years of collecting ) And no reference to any Scousers nicking stuff please Edited September 30, 2014 by stevegods 2

Frankie M Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Very sorry , hope they are returned , devastating
stokesoulboy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Terrible news , the worst thing is it's a journey collecting , I for one know who or where you buy things - I traded this 45 at the casino or I bought this off pete s etc, it builds a picture that can never be replaced I hope you get some news on the missing records soon 1
Mrtag Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 GOOD LUCK WITH CATCHING WHOEVER!! HOPE YOU GET THEM BACK!! I CAN'T IMAGINE ANYTHING WORSE!! ATB JOHN.

Wouldn't a permanent UV marker pen be a safer option, and less likely to devalue the vinyl?
Jnixon Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Wouldn't a permanent UV marker pen be a safer option, and less likely to devalue the vinyl? you can go that way instead. up to you. do do something though. theres too much of this going on these days. we should be all thinking about more seriously about security. 1

Jnixon Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Give us a few titles of the rarer stuff mate, they're the ones that stand out like a sore thumb when offered for sale. do that covertly dont do it in the open!!
Quinvy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 do that covertly dont do it in the open!! Why? surely the more people that are looking out for them the better? They've been stolen already.
Jnixon Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Why? surely the more people that are looking out for them the better? They've been stolen already. because if someone is selling them and they get wind of it you will lose the advantage that the rarity gives you.
Simsy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) Appalling, I always feel safe with our people when at a do or similar. Though as already stated, someone in the know must have been involved in this terrible act of theft. I really must press on with indexing the collection and get them insured! 10-25k worth - £125 policy (50 excess) 25-50k " - £195 " " 50-75k " - £250 " " 75-100k " - £300 " " I spoke to a guy called Paul and he said it was OK to put the number up 01892 506 884 or go to the website www.newmooninsurance.com Edited October 2, 2014 by Simsy 2
Peter99 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Sorry to hear this. Having your house broken into is extremely unpleasant and goes way beyond the loss of anything that is stolen. I've been broken into twice and it leaves a nasty scar I can tell you. I hope you get your records back Gary. All the best. Peter 1
Popular Post Louis Posted September 30, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2014 I feel for anyone who has had their lifetime vinyl collection stolen. Gaz Kellet (quite a few on here will know him) is a good mate and when he had his collection stolen it really did have an adverse effect on his life (still does as he doesn't attend venues as much as he did as when he hears a record he had, he wonders if that was his copy). There is also the fear and loathing that goes along with this as you start to suspect who could have done it, someone who obviously knows me and may have been back to the house at some time. It is a "horrible" crime that has a lifelong effect. I would love to set up a vigilante squad that would deal with these lowlifes when they are found to be 100 per cent guilty! Louis 8

Dave Rimmer Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 because if someone is selling them and they get wind of it you will lose the advantage that the rarity gives you. But if people don't know what has been stolen how will they know what to look out for ?

Stevegods Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 (edited) Gary ... don't know you mate ... as ive been off the scene for a while and only a newbie on this site ...but my heart goes out to you mate .. it really does . Just seen the list ... and that's a life time of memories ..never mind the value ... and irreplaceable really. I really hope that someone ..somewhere feels someone's collar on this one and turns up a lead .. It's a violation of many things when someone burgles you ..and you always feel they could return at any time ... its very distressing I know . I would advise anyone who has a collection of any sort to both insure it and also think of the measures you can take to help prevent it from being stolen ... House Alarm . Movement censor cameras ..very cheap and easy to install ..only need one in the room that the collection is in ... Big Dog .. Get someone to house sit and don't let many people know you are going away ..especially not on any Social Media sites .. Hope something turns up for you mate ... cant think what it must be like to just have CD's to play . If I have any of your lost items twice ... which is possible..... their yours mate !! Orotava Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Just wanted to add my disgust with whoever stole this collection - they probably have no idea of the heartache caused, or couldn`t care less which makes me so angry. 1

The most annoying thing is when you look at it and the circumstances, it was planned and they knew exactly what they were doing and the effect it would have on Gary, that to me makes it 10 times worse Kev 4

Frankie Crocker Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 thanks everyone for your support, just hope we may be in with a chance of retrieving them Awful to hear about this Gary. The scumbags would have needed a van to shift the volume of records stolen - have you spoken to the neighbours or checked on local CCTV? Suspect is probably local, North Wales coast, knows you and/or people who know you collect. Let us Soul Sourcers know what to look out for so we can nail the b------. Hang on in there son and hope something turns up. 1
Big Red Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I HOPE YOU GET YOUR COLLECTION BACK SOON AND THE LOWLIFE SCUM WHO TOOK THEM ARE CAUGHT. 1
Mike Lofthouse Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 The worrying thing Gary is that somebody who knows you has either done it or has passed on the details to others. Yes, you might have mentioned you were away on Facebook - but no way has a stranger come across that fact, decided you must have a collection worth stealing then found out where you live , gone to your house and just stolen the records! 2

I don't Karen Pete - so can't see her page on Facebook or any discussion threads - so I hadn't realised that the culprits were known - makes my post somewhat superfluous!!
