Winsford Soul Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 ages since one has been for sale.... price guide for this???? snooky The last one I could find went for a amazing $6800 back in April this year Steve
Mellorful Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 My old 4th edition Manship guide states the value at £4000 for a minter (my guide is out of date), but this copy is in VG- condition suggesting the value is 25% of the minter value. Current ebay bidding patterns have significantly pushed the values above the guide prices on hard to obtain records. I wonder whether this will hit the £4000 despite its condition
Quinvy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Manship price guide states: £3500 for an issue & £4000 for the demo.
Quinvy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 This one could use a little rubbing down with wet and dry. 2
Raresoul45s Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Re guide £3500 and £4000 Which doesn't make any reasoned sense, a skipping 45 only 12.5% cheaper than a non skipper. I don't and won't use guides it's the easiest and quickest way to get the price wrong Cheers Darren Edited September 22, 2014 by BROWNIE 1
KevH Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Shame about the label.........or lack of it.
Quinvy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I personally wouldn't give a tenner for it. I couldn't stand to play it because of all the background noise, and it doesn't even look good for display. I think if a minty demo ever came up for sale, you could retire on the proceeds.
Mick Holdsworth Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Re guide £3500 and £4000 Which doesn't make any reasoned sense, a skipping 45 only 12.5% cheaper than a non skipper. I don't and won't use guides it's the easiest and quickest way to get the price wrong Cheers Darren He might mean the "non skipping" run, as it was pressed two (or possibly three) times, and only one of those presses were faulty. Cheers Mick
Guest Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Christ its as rough as a rag-mans trumpet!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GWEN-OWENS-Just-Say-Youre-Wanted-VELGO-Rare-Detroit-Northern-Soul-45-Promo-HEAR-/381003362441?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item58b591f089 If that fetches much more than its already at it would be too much!

Soulhawk Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 guess y'all better wait for a mint copy then
George G Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) I still expect this to go for more than $2K. Based on what I've seen other rough copies of legendary record sell for, there are people who will spend money for this. It's listenable, might even sound OK when played at a club. Edited September 22, 2014 by George G
Frankie Crocker Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Price Guide prices don't really apply to these sort of records. Much depends on who already has it, whether to ignore the label condition and whether it is for DJing. No serious collector would turn this record down at a price they could afford but how many of us have 3K spare this week? Should clear 2K and get close to 3K as availability continues to diminish.

Amsterdam Russ Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Save yourself a few thousand and get the cover version by Gwen's daughter for under a tenner. You get a cracking B side into the bargain as well!"‹ 1
Soulstu Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 my Lester Tipton's no worse' mind I only paid 35 quid Sounded alright out front on at Blackhearts on Sunday morning Ted! On the Gwen Owens, surely that much damage must render it pretty undesirable (does to me anyway)...it's lost so much of its appeal without the label - I'd always be thinking I was the owner of that "worst copy of Gwen Owens in the world ever". Also I'd probably be always on the lookout for a better copy as soon as I'd bought it... you can tell I'm not a proper collector! 1
Chris Turnbull Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 While on the subject of Gwen Owens, just come across this interesting (if knackered looking) Jamaican issue of 'It ain't hardly over' on ebay:- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1015-GWEN-OWENS-IT-AINT-HARDLY-OVER-KEEP-ON-LIVING-JOSIE-REGGAE-45-7-/191336654446?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item2c8c8da66e The advert lists it as 'reggae' and says recorded in Jamaica, however the audio clip just sounds like my US issue which I assumed was a US recording. Are they correct and it was recorded in Jamaica? Sounds odd to me. Top tune either way
Chris Turnbull Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Ted, re. Blackhearts, what was the big R&B one you played towards the end of your set - a bit like ZZ Hill, something about coffee - great tune
Prophonics 2029 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) I can just imagine the conversation after looking at the label......Hey!!! Homer honey, I was able to save 2 dimes by reusing the old sellophane tape on this old record. Dohh Edited September 22, 2014 by Prophonics 2029
Steve G Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Why would you bid on such a knackered record?......it's not as if it's a total one off or something.....back in the day a copy in this condition would have been trashed....now it seems everyone and his brother wants it. Madness.
Ted Massey Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Ted, re. Blackhearts, what was the big R&B one you played towards the end of your set - a bit like ZZ Hill, something about coffee - great tune J T Parker If you want to hold on Academy Chris
Dave Pinch Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 my Lester Tipton's no worse' mind I only paid 35 quid cant recall your lester hissing or jumping ted
Robbk Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I can't see paying 1,000 Quid (25% of mint price) on a collection "filler". That doesn't look and sound like a record to play and listen to.
Chris Turnbull Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 J T Parker If you want to hold on Academy Chris Cheers Ted, enjoyed that one 1

Prophonics 2029 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) I have seen worse copys DJ WITH. I have a few damaged H2O labels but a perfect disc. Edited September 23, 2014 by Prophonics 2029
Pete S Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I can't believe anyone would buy that. People would look at it and think they might catch something off it. Plus it was played out in 1976...
cressy Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Ive heard much worse copy of this in a club I think I know which copy you mean Ted. It seems to get worse every time I hear it out. It'll soon be unplayable. 1
