Denbo Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Decent sized gang from St.Helens all heading to Liverpool, Picturehouse at FACT - 12 noon Saturday 18th Oct, as Friday 17th Oct is SOLD OUT already! There's a few shows throughout the day on the 18th, so anybody living local to Liverpool can get themselves down there and take in the show. We're all off for a few Real Ales and quite possibly a Curry or Greekie afterwards, if anybody fancies joining us? 1
Guest Carl Dixon Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) Dedji1955...I think it is for an entertainment programme at the weekend. I worked in Sky News this last 5 days and somebody gave me the producers email so I dropped him a line. He loved everything about it. He came to see me in the technical area and I was nearly crying with him telling him the story and also what I used to do to get the records etc, and learning to dance. I don't think he or many others realise how powerful this stuff is. It's almost part of my dna now. I wouldn't be me without it. I'll inquire when it will be aired. Guest uroffal Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Not sure if anyone's missed out on tickets to the Birmingham MAC showing, but Birmingham Empire Great Park are showing the film on Friday 17th, Saturday 18th and Tuesday 21st - plenty of tickets available for the Saturday showing as I've just booked mine.
Guest Carl Dixon Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 The rumours are that Sky will air their piece from early tomorrow (Friday). Be critical, but bear in mind journalist who know nothing about these things do their best under difficult circumstances. They are given a short amount of time and budget and often cannot afford to license footage, etc. It's the thought that counts and I am sure they mean well most of the time.
Guest stevemcmahon Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Nice, Carl. Thanks for letting us know ITV did a good piece just now on Good Morning with Lisa Stansfield.
Popular Post Pete S Posted October 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 16, 2014 My sis was an original member for about the first 4 years & I clearly remember her saying that about the front near the stage. I also remember her saying most left the floor when Granada showed up with their cameras but then I suppose if you were there the same night & didn't see that you may think it didn't happen. A lot of how something is remembered can come down to personal perspectives. It's true that the majority left the floor when the filming started and sat in the shadows, my reason for that is I didn't want anyone filming me in case my parents saw my eyes and I promise you more people didn't dance because of that than any other reason - so at least half the people who are on that film are, for want of a better word, divs, ask yourself, how many of those do you remember as regulars? In 1976 when I first went, I wouldn't have gone near the front to dance, before the year was up I was dancing there, or anywhere else, it's just a case of getting used to it really, getting your confidence up. 6

We stayed away completely when Granada was in there, kind of deliberate decision....There was also a campaign to keep the cameras out the week or two before, but I guess the powers that be weren't interested in that....First time I ever went in 76 or 77 spent the majority of the night in the balcony and the record bar, only a bit on the dancefloor. That changed from the second time I went - as you say Pete confidence.

dedji1955 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Like most I was dead against the cameras being allowed into the Casino, there are a few faces on the footage that i recognise as regulars and still see a few out n about However I am glad they did it and IMHO it has provided the best footage from the era 1

Could you imagine if they hadn't been there now? No This England - we'd be arguing over whether people really wore baggies
Mach Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 i was a weekly regular at the time granada team show up, and we deliberately gave it a miss that week knowing that all the divs and limelight seekers would turn up to get on the telly, ..i danced at the front for 4 yrs, it was handy to sling your bag behind the speakers and to keep an eye on your tape decks.
Tattoodave Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I feel left out, albeit not in the cold, but my DVD was ordered a while ago and as soon as the Correos lady delivers it on her moped, it'll be on the TV and I'll be enjoying it. To everyone going to the various cinemas and events over the weekend I hope you all have a wonderful time and look back on the events fondly for many years to come, I envy you the togetherness that I know this film will bring on airing. 3
Sunnysoul Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) According to the Time Out article , regarding Frank Wilson, "only 250 copies of the 45 were ever pressed" "What happened to the music? Thanks to the competing efforts of a handful of DJs — each unearthing obscure soul stompers to keep their dancefloors fresh — the northern soul scene excavated a treasure chest of classic records. Some, like Gloria Jones’s ‘Tainted Love’ or Chuck Wood’s ‘Seven Days Too Long’, became well known after being covered by Soft Cell and Dexys Midnight Runners respectively. Others, like ‘Do I Love You’ by Frank Wilson were saved from total obscurity (only 250 copies of the 45 were ever pressed) to reach the giddy heights of being featured in a KFC advert." MARKHARRISON Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Think you may be OK fella, just spoke with someone at the Arts in Cambridge and she said that the showing 18th is a sell out and she reckons the 2nd showing is too but couldn't find the date. You've said 27th so I'm assuming that's it. Hopefully, you've had confirmation from Ourscreen Thanks - but not quite there yet, for the showing on the 27th Oct at 9.00pm in Cambridge Arts, the website advises it requires another 14 to confirm that they will attend and then they will show it. So, if this message could go out to all Cambs and Bedfordshire folks it'd be appreciated. Cheers

There's a notice on the Cambridge City Soul Club saying there's a showing on 20th. Maybe get in touch with someone there and ask them if they can stick something up saying 14 needed! https://citysoulclub-cambridge.co.uk/ Worth a try! Think Winnie on here's one of their top lads
TheBigO Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 The Broadway Cinema in Letchworth, Herts have not only moved the 3 nights to the bigger screen room but have also added extra slots in the morning for both Saturday and Sunday as demand has been so great. So anyone who can't see it can get in, I know there were a few from Milton Keynes area that were struggling so that may be of use to them as Letchworth is only a 45 min straightish drive from there.
Professorturnups Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Cinema City in Norwich are showing the film tomorrow night, a 180 seater that sold out in a few days. No need to press gang the cinema into showing it, and there's a second showing on Wednesday for those who missed out on a first night ticket. Norwich has had a big Northern Soul following for many years despite being "on the road to nowhere" and I'm really looking forward to watching the film with friends who are on the same wave length as me... Guest Carl Dixon Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) Sky airing today (Saturday). I think it looked good. Nice to see Ethan in there showing off his moves.I met him at Skegness and chatted about the music and passion. A very respectable person to see involved with the music. I gave him a copy of 'Tell me'...be nice to feed back to Spyder that it is being played on occasions over here (indeed it was last week twice on the same night - of course, there was only me dancing to it lol!).I did the 100 Club last night until 3am. Packed..some great tunes and respect for the film and music. Too much beer on the floor though...... https://news.sky.com/story/1355558/weve-got-soul-film-set-to-hit-the-big-time Edited October 18, 2014 by Carl Dixon

Guest Suffolk Soul Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Due to popular demand Ipswich Film Theatre have added a big screen showing of Northern Soul on Sunday 26th at 7:30pm. Tickets can be booked online at: https://www.iftt.co.uk/ I'm waiting to see the film at the cinema before I view the DVD which is out before my town could show the film.
Steve S 60 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Our local cinema in Penrith has now announced they'll be showing it from the 7th November. Probably nothing to do with me winding down my car window and shouting across at the cinema manager when I spotted him in the street the other day. Nice one Matthew.
Guest Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Just got back from seeing it in Wigan.................needs to be seen at the cinema to be appreciated. It was excellent! Elaine`s nailed it more or less
Guest Suffolk Soul Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Described by Ipswich Film Theatre as a "phenomenal success" of pre-booking ticket sales, all the original screenings in the smaller cinema practically sold out before the film began showing on 24th October. An extra screening on Sunday 26th on the big screen sold out so yet another screening is planned for Sunday 2nd November at 7:30. Bookings can be made at iftt.co.uk
