Rob Moss Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Margaret Little - shocking vocal. Backing is brilliant though.

Pete S Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Can't see but it if it isn't George Lemons you have gone soft. No it's by Noel & The Fireballs a version of I Can't Turn You Loose, the guy doesn't know the words so he's just grunting and saying Gotta Gotta 1
Steve S 60 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Noel and the Furballs would be more appropriate.
AlanB Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I actually quite like it, and on a UK label too. The overall sound reminds me of James Coit - Black Power, which I also like, even though that's often mentioned as the epitome of a crap record. My candidate for worst vocal ever is Nat Cole Jnr - You. Even the superb backing can't hide the fact that NC Jnr can't sing at all. Edited September 16, 2014 by AlanB 1
Northern Soul Uk Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) LOL Piss funny that, all one tone, and that's the wrong one My vote is Wicked Lester - Gay with an 'E', off key and flat, but again good backing. Edited September 16, 2014 by Northern Soul UK
Kegsy Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) The piano playing on this always kills me, you have to stick with it as it gets progressively worse Edited September 16, 2014 by Kegsy 1

Frankie Crocker Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Funtastic. Would make a great ender at a Christmas party, everyone off their tree and sliding around on a beer soaked floor...
Popular Post Dave Thorley Posted September 16, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) This guy couldn't hit a note if he tried. Remember hearing this at John Anderson's with Ady Pountain and the two of us rolling on the floor with laughter. Then a week later we were at a alldayer at The Powerhouse and Pat played it C/U, so we rolled around on the floor again.............. Edited September 16, 2014 by Dave Thorley 4

Greg Belson Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Two tunes that I can't get my head around cos I just despise the vocals; Caprells 'Close your eyes' Wanda Davis 'Save me'

Sit back and enjoy. Its Ollie Reed isn't it? After a massive sesh with Keith Moon they stumble across the Stax studios.... (By chance the Booker T boys are in house laying backing tracks, and fearing for their lives, Steve Cropper invites Ollie to 'join in' on vocals). The rest is history... 1

Guest Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) One that we featured last week in fact! https://youtu.be/5eBfCUJq0Lc A fine example of Chicago soul music, with god knows what squawking on it. Edited September 17, 2014 by Guest

Jesus, that is truly dreadful... no amount of covering up can disguise that fact!! Some folk might not agree, but Ted Wilson...again absolutely dreadful vocal.. I suppose its the backing track people like... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl03KfquvCA Edited September 17, 2014 by Mal C 1
Missgoldie Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Two tunes that I can't get my head around cos I just despise the vocals; Caprells 'Close your eyes' Wanda Davis 'Save me' That Caprells is a great record, both sides. I agree with you about the Wanda Davis version of Save Me. 2
Missgoldie Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) A terrible vocal performance with equally bad backing singers, made worse by the fact that the other versions are all so good. Edited September 18, 2014 by missgoldie
Md Records Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Joanne Touchstone has always made me smile - Not a great vocal performance!
Greg Belson Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) That Caprells is a great record, both sides. I agree with you about the Wanda Davis version of Save Me. The vocals on the Caprells just makes me wanna go to the bar, bathroom, or just leave the venue for 3 minutes 20 seconds. Barber shop raga quartet breakdowns whilst trying to maintain a shred of soul, just doesn't do it for me. How Wanda actually ended up in a studio is a mystery....the backing band on the other hand, are pretty great! Edited September 17, 2014 by Greg Belson

Guest son of stan Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I quite like both of them but to my ears it's the guitarist that's struggling on the Caprells record...He's way off at times!
Jordirip Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The vocals on the Caprells just makes me wanna go to the bar, bathroom, or just leave the venue for 3 minutes 20 seconds. Quite a unique sounding outfit.
Greg Belson Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Quite a unique sounding outfit. Yeah, I'll agree with you there, mate.....uniquely awful, unless you're into barbershop raga harmonies. Yuck. 1
gazman Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 There's no denying that Johnny Gilliam can sing, but what the hell is going on here. Absolutely shambolic, yet I like it! gary
Mellorful Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 The topic 'Worst vocal on a record ever' I guess soulies set the bar far higher than many other musical genres when it comes to vocals. Whilst I agree the vocals are something less than fantastic consider the following: Lee Marvin -Wandering Star, Benny Hill - fastest milkman in the west, Worzels - combined harvester Then you could go to the punk era (Johnny Rotten) and post punk there were a great many vocalists who couldn't hit a note (eg Gary Newman, Pete Shelley etc). Occasionally I still enjoy listening to the Sex Pistols tunes but accept their vocal limitations.
Barry Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 heres a corker, he did another one called little sister thats even worse/better How on Christs earth did this ever get a release, astoundingly, hilariously bad....the competent backing and b singers add to the fun ;) Great shout, had to listen to it all three times and may go back to it when I'm feeling down.
Ernie Andrews Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I don't have a mp3 of this as its very rare and should be - Jimmy Pendleton - You are the honey for me - Julie records. Brilliant backing track! I played it 3 years ago on BIR Radio so Nick Turvey would have it recorded somewhere. Go Listen and tell me its not the worst vocal ever as it was described by listeners as the PUB SINGER! 1
