When it comes to a various artists compilation CD, "SO SOULFUL 70s" (CDKEND 175), released 1999, is a really strong contender!

Amazing Atlantic 70s dancers, oozing with soul...

As for proper Northern, "NORTHERN MONSTERS" (CDKEND 272) from 2007 is just brilliant...

Kent delivers, as usual!!

Sorry I cant just pick one, Soul Class of 66, Up Town Down South, So Soulful 70s, Soulful Kinda Music / For Collectors Only, The Northern Soul Of L.A. Vol 2, simply because it had Troy Dodds and June Jackson on it...

and the daddy of em all for me, Modern Soul Connoisseurs that one Richard Serling put together, cost a about a fiver when it came out, and what a track listing given the normal pit falls of licensing songs from various sources... in fact he mentioned on his show recently that this comp just happened, everything he asked for became available and out it came, sheers quality comp...

It was a fine example of how much quality was released on major labels

Capitol Soul Casino is my fave LP.

Floorshakers is my fave Kent LP.

And Peter is right. it is a moody one, but that Up All Night is a belter. Another moody but goody was the Kool Kat thing with Stuart Ames,  etc on.

Numerous favourite Kent LPs, Floorshakers, Footstompers & Soul Class 66 amongst others, spring to mind.

As for for cd compilation, it has to be Sought After Soul 4CD compiled by Dave Flynn, has to be close to the top of the list!

Forgot that one, remember an old boss having it on his desk one day, totally out of the blue, when I mentioned it, he said he had been reading my CV, and my interests section, and thought he would check it out!

Thanks Dave, I kept the job so you must gave done a good job on that cd...

Northern Soul of Motown 1&2 every tracks brilliant

The best compilation ever is probably on Kent, but it is impossible for me to pick out just one.

Otherwise, for sentimental reasons, I would have to pick Jumping at the Go Go - hearing that LP for the first time was a defining moment for me. I have the orange label version, but I believe that it was also issued with a black label too.

All the RCA/Grapevine releases were excellent  but if I had to choose one from that era (70s) it would be Motown Memories (16 non-stop..... etc).

Kool Kat was a legit Neil Rushton release

This wasn't bad from Destiny - https://www.discogs.com/Various-The-Record-Collector-Vol-1-20-Legendary-Northern-Soul-Classics/release/3192781

And I know this was dodgy but it was packed with biggies at the time - pretty much Richards playlist - WFON FM All Night Long with

Willie G & the Styles — No second chance (Deadbeats)

Bobby Jason — All these things (William Powell)

James Lewis — That’s the way (The Q)

Professionals - That's why

Court Davis — The lover who loves you not (Try to think what you're doing)

Seven Souls - I still

John & Weirdest — Memories

Ty Karim - Lighten up

Cheryl Berdell

Doug Parkinson

Jan Jones

Charles Johnson

Tyrone Barkley

Otis Clay

James Mack - Over the top (Roy Dawson)

Peter

They should have made it one sided...just side one
