Not sure what section to put this in but posting it here because it will be a shortlived post - if anyone wanted one of these - the deck that just plugs straight into your pc - firebox now have them back in stock but they only have a very limited quantity, so I thought I'd post this up now that I've safely secured mine :shhh:

To quote the ad "Whether it's Whitesnake, Wham, Spandau or some ancient disc belonging to your dad, the USB Turntable can convert it." which are you using it for Pete?

Seriously look good though

the new one's are good got one last month. still trying to find a good system to convert the 'audacity wav' files to mp3. any suggestions. now ist defo in wrong section.

Here you go Mr Saint, this looks like it will do the trick

https://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s...p;item=lame-mp3

(n.b. it may not actually as I'm not familiar with audacity, is that the software that'll come with the deck?)

Stuart ,

I use a program called switch (https://nch.com.au/switch/index.html) I think it's still available as a free basic download to convert wav to mp3.

Wouldn't this type of thing - a USB audio interface be a more cost-effective and sensible option as it allows you to use your existing deck? I have one and it's very good. Works with both PC and Macintosh.

let us know when it arrives what the quality is like of the recording

If they were readily available there wouldn't be a waiting list...

Is the waiting list just for the source you posted up Pete?

I know HTFR stock them, so i persume most other 'dj equiptment' places have them too

When I tried to order one 3 weeks back - there wasn't a single (online) stockist in the Uk who had them. Honest!

The retail stockist ran out of stock and then the new turntable was an upgrade. The manufacturers are experiencing massive demand so supply to Uk is very limited. Waiting lists not uncommon.

cheaper way to get vinyl from deck to the pc is.....£1.99 lead and headphone adapter from comet, plug into headphone on your hifi, then plug into mic socket on your pc,and play through nero wave editor, which records then converts it to wav or mp3 file...dead easy, you can also take all the crackle and pops out of the shit copys.

Done that for years, it's pretty ropey compared to having a deck you can plug in

You sure about that

i've only seen them advertised in HTFR so persumed they were quite widely avaliable, mind you you have to wait 3 weeks with them just to process your order :wicked:

I think the quality is very good - when I crack the mp3 file transfer I'll post a version. Definitly worth buying. Also like the solid feel, almost like a technics, and has a variable belt drive for those midtempo gems that should have been stompers.

Bush MTT1 & MTT2 decks plug straight in PC & cheap.

MTT2 is great, got start button & pitch.

all it is is a very cheap turntable with a phono preamp built in.

you wouldnt believe how much these cost numark to make -- $7.99 each

you'd be better off with an old turntable and this https://www.lifeismusic.co.uk/PA/BEHRINGER-...A202--2445.aspx

or better still an sl1200 and a proper mixer.

You'll spend hundreds on one piece of vinyl and use crappy turntables to play em lol

ps, use ortofon carts too - stantons just sit in the top of the groove, ortofons get deep into the groove and avoid much of the surface noise.

Hope this helps.

It would have helped if you'd told me about it before I spent over £100 on a f*cking USB turntable :D

Two part post here, the first part is for Soulfulsaint concerning the mp3's and lame codec thing. If you download that lame codec then open it and drag the .dll file into a folder on your desktop, then when you've recorded a track, go to FILE, then, EXPORT AS MP3 and it gives you a message saying that you have to install the lame codec thingy, it puts a box up so you can tell it where the .dll file is, so just direct it to the folder on your desktop where you dragged the file, and bobs yer uncle. It works, and it works really well, I'll put my first ever recording up so you (or anyone) can hear the quality though I have reduced it in size massively from the original.

RIGHT SO FAR SO GOOD, NOW THE BAD NEWS

I can play records into the computer but can't hear them unless I am recording. This isn't really a problem. Once recorded, they play back through audacity, sound great.

This is the problem: I have no sound from windows media player or any other players, I can't hear music from any cd I put in the drive. UNLESS. I remove the USB cable that connects the deck to the pc.

Can anyone tell me why this or what I can do about it?

cheers

Had same problem with proggy I use for recording vinyl to PC.... stumped me for ages then was told to "double click" speaker icon in system tray.... this shows the different sources for sound.... in my case the mute button on certain things like Wav and CD Player was ticked by default by proggy when starting to record.... summat to do with ensuring no other sound would be present whilst recording.... now just have to remember to untick after finished recording stuff to be able to hear Wavs, etc., and CDs through Media Player

Might be similar in your case Pete.... just a thought....

p.s. if you can't see any/all the sound sources when double clicked icon, then click options/properties and you've got the button hole tick thing for showing either playback or recording.... just tick the ones in each you want to have on view....

good job i'm here then

yes pete, i know exactly what this is

What the usb cable does from the deck is effectively put another sound card on the pc.

Now windows does not like 2 sound cards - in fact you cannot get 2 sound cards to work toigether without specialist software

When you unplug the USB it disconnects the second sound card so windows then defaults back to the main sound card and all is ok.

There is something you can do tho (or at least try)

If you are only going to be using the input for recording from the deck and nothing else (ie you dont use a mic headset on a regular basis) then do this

go to start>control panel>sounds and audio

click the audio tab

for sound playback choose your pc soundcard

for recording choose usb turntable or whatever it comes up with

click ok and try it - thi9s should solve the problem, but note that everytime you disconnect the turntable you will have to go through all this shit again.

Thanks mate, I had done that after a fashion but kept unplugging the usb lead and it kept resetting itself, but you're right, it does work the way that you explained above

Another GREAT posting Pete and thanks so much Soultrader for being on hand with all that useful knowledge / information.

Are we able to add these kind of postings within Soul Source to a Favourites section of our own???

They are not daft. They tell you that you can transer 78" you use the 33" speed and then use computer to make it proper speed.

This is a must for anyone who might want there stuff from vinyl onto cd/computer if it ain't officially or easy to get hold off on CD
