was that for the issue or demo mind that seems a tad expensive although i know you have to be careful with demos as a lot are one side or the other the double sided demo not easy to find but £900 wow..

This was hammmered to death back in the day and I've only ever owned the reissue of it and probably played it a handful of times in the 30+ years since I bought it at the Casino because I used to be sick of hearing it out (I'm going back a few years now, and don't go out much these days). A few months ago I had this on in the car on a cheap CD compilation and thought f*#king hell that sounds good. The combination of time passing and not hearing it for years really put it back into perspective. Good song, great lyrics/story..........good vocals, though shame its not Chuck Jackson singing it. :)

What?? I'm up early and I think my eyes must be glued together. Surely a US issue is no more than £150 at the very most???

UK copies were always more expensive (but not that much more!)

Still getting hammered - I bet I've heard it played out at every single night I've gone to in the last four months!  ... Still, a great record is a great record - I wish I had one - he had a good way with a tune, old Jimmy.

If you'd been going to those same nights for the last 15 years you would have heard it every time Stu

Thats why I only go once or twice a year, you mentioned on another thread about Voodoo Mademoiselle not getting played as well - same issue

Sorry for straying off topic  :(

Fantastic find Gareth, yet another mystery solved...I don't think anyone ever thought he was a black guy from Detroit but we certainly enjoyed his record.

As for value

Epic £75 to £100 issue or demo

CBS £250 issue, £300 - £350 demo

one sided emidisc I used to play in 1977 - £1

:hatsoff2: HI ALL.... It's 2014 just to remind you all, having collected soul 45s for many years, I would say I have seen more Shane Martin DEMOS, than ISSUES by 5-1. in 1975 it was selling at £40 for a issue, I concede that the DEMO is highly prized, but the issue is much rarer, like many rare records on big UK labels they are rare because no one bought them in the first place, not because a DJ played it up North 6 years later creating a demand,

The fact of the matter is that like most of the records you have ever heard were discovered by collectors months even years before it was played by some "I WILL NEVER STOP DJ AT THE BIG EVENTS" Oh! how I know Mr DJ the big EGO MAN,

Rare records like Shane Martin will always be a top collectable on UK DEMO OR ISSUE, the current value means nothing as most people who have a UK soul collection have a copy or if they wanted something as rare would contact the right people, other wise you will see people getting mugged  for big money for the inferior US COPY, rule of thumb is with a tiny exception the UK copy is much rarer than a US copy.

I am not interested in the people who say US records are 1st issues not 2nd issue,  (exception is DAVE RIMMER), as I stated the scene for me has always been about RARE SOUL not a DJ play making it in demand?.

for most people they only collect US because they missed the boat for the top UK RARE SOUL 45s.

The only chance of getting Shane Martin for under £300 is thieving it, getting it from some poor soul who owes money or you buy a collection, oh! or a rough copy, I rate it at £500 DEMO £400 ISSUE, and yes I have seen copy's sell for less, that's why I would rather in demand trade records to get the true rare ones, as you can always buy them back again at a later time for 1/4 of the price, :g: MY COPY.post-13241-0-09396500-1409754790_thumb.j

Did a quick schoofty, they seem to go for around £80 - 100 for demos, about £150.00 if it's in top condition.

What!? Most people collect US issued soul 45's because about 95% (if not more!) of all soul 45's were only issued in the US and not in the UK.

:hatsoff2: HI ALL.......Sebastian,   Please Please DON'T WHAT ME!, I'm sure you made the remark in good faith, however alarmist words rub me up the wrong way, like people who say YOU PEOPLE>

I think your point is stating the obvious and it's more nearer 99%, I was talking about the top say 100 records that got a UK release that have & will always be collected, because they are rarer than the US copy, I have quite a decent collection of US northern SOUL or RARE SOUL, the UK collection however has & will always give me more gratification, it is worth noting that most people UD top records contain the records from the Wheel Torch early WIGAN Casino, or later stuff played at the 100CLUB

by people who are recognised for collecting Rare UK 45s., I'm sure you understand my jibber, as for value my quoted price is what I rate them Pete Smiths value is probably right, but I still would add a extra £50 on top, the difference in price rates for rare UK & US soul 45s has always been a mystery to me! as people who start a sentence with WHAT :g: DAVE K

Yes, when you have a disc that looks perfect...not a mark, beyond fault....if not better than new.

Thats what a mint record is, perfect - you can't get better than perfect its against the laws of physics :g:

I still think most of these records are rare cause they were pressed wrong..off centre, marks, bad labels, miss labeled..rejects, jumps...stored in boxes for years cause they didn't meet quality control.

It's beyond normal comprehension.... We're dealing with Dark Matter hear....

I think I put too many O in the mix. Sorry.

You know the A side is worth a spin.

It's as good as the B side.

The penny drops... £90.00 may be a fairer price but the record is fairly common and played-out so surely there must be copies priced below this?

Yes agree but I am selling one.lol.

I hope you have offered one to the initiator of the thread Tony? Having wasted several peoples' time due to a slip of a decimal point, perhaps you could auction your copy and donate the proceeds to charity? With the availability of Price Guides, Popsike and numerous sales lists, surely the going rate of any well-known record can be established with five minutes research. If in colossal doubt, phone up a major dealer and waste their time also...

Mint should mean unplayed. A mint stamp is an unused stamp. A used record in apparent perfect condition could be described as Mint minus and many vendors use this grade to describe pristine records. Maybe mint should mean never played and perhaps never even removed from the original sleeve.

Talking of M any one know how to get rid of biro off a label....i tried something and it removed all the blue out of it bar tiny pin head marks in the paper. The paper has a gloss but not a high gloss.

It looks like a pencil mark now but the papers bruised .? I used err! Aftershave.

Touchy touchy....if its such a waste of time why did you even bother to waster your time replying?? To busy being angry maybe...we know where popsike is.....as far as I can see my cock up has brough more interesting comments about the record and it's value. I wasn't aware that the starter of the thread wanted a copy for a mate or was after even selling a copy!... seeing my post was second....Some records are £5.00 up too or over £5000 pounds, what ever the value some times each is priceless to someone, for me it's a nearer the latter..

What do you want censorship Frank.

I remember I had 3 copys of Judy Frank Howard, a nice Vg++, a M copy then one that just seem to glow with brand new, never seen the light of day.... Never seen a rack of records and shuffled through....we know what the ratings are, M+ covers it for me. Chill man..

The first post to which you replied clearly states that a mint copy is required for a friend...I'm trying to save time, mine and others, by pointing out that values of common records can easily be established without posting on Soul Source.

:hatsoff2: HI, YES MATE, THEIR ARE A FEW WAYS TO ROMOVE INK FROM RECORD LABELS, However this is the wrong thread and the subject should be left to a restorer or expert in art repair, as you need to no paper type, ink type, to make the formula that removes the ink before destroying the paper, my best tip is if you are not happy with the look of your 45, sell it and let someone else do it, and buy a upgrade without pen marks, or stickers, be wise and play it safe,

trust me on this,  if you want PM me a scan of the label i'll be able to see if it is possible or not  DAVE K
