Absolutely none whatsoever, apart from trying  to get some more money out of buyers.

How can you have a demo for reissues? Its a contradiction in terms

Having said that, the grapevine 2000 demos look nice I reckon

How many people browse, then see a mega rarity, then the heart sinks when you see that little grey star on the label. I know I do.

Are these being sent out to radio stations and DJs? - if not then they aren't demos.

i think theres a market for these reissues whether we like it or not, some people collect reissues, the whole runs and so some would buy the demos where possible,i know it seems daft but it goes on

yes there are people who collect them and thats up to them but the people behind the example above just take the piss at every opportunity.

if its this re issue thing or breaking down a numero boxset and trying to sell $3.99 re issues for 100 quid, to simply doubling the going rate on easy to find original tunes, they have it covered. they do DJ specials too for 50 quid a pop were you can get the kid's reworkings of tunes, if you so desire.

kind of a one stop shop for idiots.

I would have thought the issue was simple. If it's a genuine demo of a legitimate reissue, then it has some value because there will be less copies. However, if it's just a boot that they have stuck a 'demo' label on, it's worthless.

ps, i can't access ebay at work, so may have totally got the wrong end of the stick here.

Can't see anything wrong with demos of legit reissues. E.g. G2K sent out advance promos or even acetates to raise interest for the eventual release.

And I agree with Dave, from a collector's poin of view they're more desirable (that if one collects reissues) as there are usually less copies made.

If there is a market for it then there is a point in producing demo's of reissues. People should be free to spend their money anyway they like.  I personally wouldn't buy OSV demo's but each to their own.

Who knows these purchases may become the start of a journey into buying OVO.

The Grapevine and G2K labels have lots of reissue tunes with demos how did you feel about those being produced?

Believe it or not. These reissue demos might not be done for Soul Night/Allnighters DJ's. They might be done to be sent to Radio DJ's, reviewers or maybe just "key faces" to get the Northern Soul public notice the eventual releases. Just a thought...

If it's a reissue I ain't interested, if it's previously unissued then OK, I might be interested, if it's the real thing then I would be interested, but a demo of a reissue just doesn't make sense to me.

Nabay: Believe it or not, 1967 original US issue, 1980 Grapevine issue.

I have the Grapevine collection.  Wish I could afford the US issue of Nabay.

The purpose of the reissue demo on OSV is a mystery to me but if people will pay good money for the record then good luck to them.  I haven't tried to collect OSV but no doubt someone will.

What NS DJ's or radio station DJ's make of em I have no idea but suspect the former would spit in your eye at the mention of the OSV release and the latter would complain because they are not on CD/MP3 download. Just my thoughts ...

I think the fact that they have 'Limited UK test press Number -/-' on the sleeve suggests that they are just trying to kid people that they are something rare, valuable, interesting, desirable or collectable, whereas they are, in fact, only useful for turning into ashtrays or flowerpots.

You are either a fool to buy a demo of a re-issue or you are a fool to pay 3k for an original.... how do you win?

Surely if you have 3K and want to buy the original then you should buy it, I would, if I could find a good one

I ain't talking about just the OSV demos. But demos on reissue labels in general. You got Nabay on Grapevine. I assume on issue. I'm sure you would upgrade it to a Grapevine demo, wouldn't you?

I've never been interested in any Outasight release and I guess I'll never be. I just question the general opinion that the OSV demos are fake and were never meant to be used for promotion.

And speaking of promotion of reissue labels in general, is Paul Mooney still on here? He'd be able to tell us a bit about why G2K pressed demos. And how they distributed them.

Just generalising Dave, it's how a lot of minds work, i could never reveal to anyone i'd paid 3k for a record

its not the winning its the taking part that counts

only do this with caution. i did this with a copy of lucy stone on fire mountain and its now worth 600 quid +. expensive ashtray from a shit record.
