Billy Freemantle Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 On another forum somebody mentioned a vocal version of Earl vandyke's 6x6. I have never heard of this. Has anyone? And while we are on this topic... Which other sounds have a vocal and an instumental version?
Paul R Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 In the early 70s rumours were abound that a vocal version did exist by "Tony Turner" I think. No copies ever appeared though.
Guest rachel Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 I've heard a vocal (female) to 6x6 but think it was a tailor made and pretty dire. Fairly sure I've got an RA somewhere....

Mike Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 talked about earlier in this thread billy https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1656
Chalky Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 There is definately a vocal to 6x6. Forget the artist but it's a Motown acetate and it is utter shite, absolutley terrible. John Pugh owns it.# There ios also a 70' or 80's version too, that could be tailopr made but thats even worse than the studio acetate version
soulAdequateNP Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 I've heard a vocal (female) to 6x6 but think it was a tailor made and pretty dire. Fairly sure I've got an RA somewhere.... link Lyrics along the lines of "My world is only 6*6, a room made of bricks"? IIRC, this is Earl Van Dyke and The Andantes - think it was a MotorCity tailor made. And yes, it was pretty dire
Guest Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 The vocal to 6x6 is played on northern soul radio on live 365 and yes it sounds totally shite!

And he's right, when you hear you it's pretty clear why it never got past the acetate stage. It was apparently done as an audition by someone who's name I forget at Motown

Chalky Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Yep, that's the one... and for your listening err pleasure.... link Thats not the original one tho'...told you it was a crock o shite I don't think there is an RA or mp3 of the acetate one.
Dave Rimmer Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Thats not the original one tho'...told you it was a crock o shite I don't think there is an RA or mp3 of the acetate one. link I've got part of it on a 'live' tape somewhere John was DJing.
Billy Freemantle Posted November 3, 2004 Author Posted November 3, 2004 Now which people were arguing that vocals made a tune more soulful. Yes, I know the tune has been messed about with, too. But doesn't that sort of prove that a vocal doen't always help ...especially a silly one? Thanks a lot ,Rachel.
Chalky Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 I've got part of it on a 'live' tape somewhere John was DJing. link Sure he played it at the 100 Club.
Guest Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Thats not the original one tho'...told you it was a crock o shite I don't think there is an RA or mp3 of the acetate one. link How bad is the original one compared to that ? That one must be a motor city effort (If thats the right word)
Chalky Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 How bad is the original one compared to that ? That one must be a motor city effort (If thats the right word) link It's bad, real bad.....its a long time since I heard it and I'm hoping it's even longer before I have to hear it again
Dave Rimmer Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Sure he played it at the 100 Club. link That's probably where it's from then because he did play it at the 100

Mike Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 dave rimmer being "the most used" reference tonight from scenesville site a clip of his review from when John Pugh guested.... John started off with The Vondells followed by Little John. Full dancefloor ensued for the rest of the set. The busiest it got was for the vocal to 'Six By Six', although people hadn't realised it was the vocal when they started dancing. think I was there that night but can't remember hearing it, have spoke to John about it recently but doesn't give a lot away this clipped from link put up earlier
Godzilla Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 I agree entirely but the instrumental isn't soulful either link All for You is though....
Chalky Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 All for You is though.... link Is it...you'll have to read the thread on instrumentals for my answer to that one
Godzilla Posted November 3, 2004 Posted November 3, 2004 Is it...you'll have to read the thread on instrumentals for my answer to that one link I did - I was just too lazy to jump from one topic to another. Shall I give my five penneth here or should I go back to the Soulful Instru bit? Cheers, Godz
