MrsWoodsrules Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Have been told this morning that he has had a major stroke. Does anyone know if is this true?
Guest Bearsy Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Yes its true he posted the news up himself on face book. Paralysed down one side with no use of foot and hand. Very sad News I wish him well and a speedy recovery.
Guest Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) Bloody hell that`s a shock!........................no matter what you thought of Ian its still upsetting news.....and we share a middle name! The brother-in-law had one a year ago and is still not good. My mother had one 20 odd years ago and she made a full (almost) recovery. I wish him all the very best and hope he makes a swift and full recovery......Geoffrey Edited August 24, 2014 by Guest
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) Also read his post about this. He says that he'd hoped to keep the news private, but had to confirm publicly to (my words) stop the gossip mongers once it had become widely known. I echo the sentiments wishing him a speedy recovery. Edited August 24, 2014 by Russell Gilbert
Popular Post Goldsoul Posted August 24, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2014 It happened a few weeks ago. Ian kept it quiet as did his close friends, however someone got wind announcing it on Facebook. Ian confirmed the story earlier today. He asked me to cover for him at the Hammersmith Club on Sat Sept 6. He's not in good shape that's for sure, although improving. I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery. 12
macca Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 That is sad to hear. Whatever he thinks of this site and some of the people on it is irrelevant in the face of such a blow. Also have a great family friend who suffered one about three or fours years ago. The road to recovery has been a long and arduous one but it's amazing how the body can respond over time. Wish him all the very best for a speedy recovery.
Guest Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Don't really give a shit about the politics, you'll always be a hero of my early soul years. Get well soon Ian John Sums it right up!
Tattoodave Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I hope you've got someone close that has patience Ian, that's all it takes, if someone is prepared to work with you on this you will recover, other's have done and you're strong enough willed to do so too. Just make sure you think positive. Get well soon. 3

Stockholmsoulfox Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Don't really give a shit about the politics, you'll always be a hero of my early soul years. Get well soon Ian John So very true, without Ian and Colin Curtis the music we love today wouldn't be the same. A tough challenge ahead but people can make astonishing progress after a stroke so every best wish for a full recovery Ian. 1
rixrecords Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Looking forward to having you back behind the decks where you belong
Lindz Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Really sad news - Northern Soul and Soul music in general would not be the same without him - the list of classic tracks he has discovered for us all is endless - we all wish him a speedy and full recovery. Stevegods Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) Very sad news ..The Highland Room was a great venue with a great dance floor for floaters like myself ... Went to the opening night of The Rocket as well...... as now I'm a southern softie....... and he was on top form .. I've got my piece of Highland Room floor under my bed ... get well mate cause I want it signed now The rights and wrongs of what his vision of the scene was, or is, is of no consequence.. Politics plays no part here .. His name is entrenched in the Halls of Fame of Northern Soul ..and music in general except for maybe the productions with Dollar and fellow scouser Tiffany ... Liverpool Lads give you a big shout out mate .. and a very speedy recovery ( one of us made a full recovery from a stroke himself 7 years ago ... Steve , Phil and Mad Sam !! ) Edited August 25, 2014 by stevegods 1
Biggordy Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Whatever you may think of Ian, he's a massive part of the soul scene and let's face it who ISN'T controversial? I hope he has a speedy recovery. 2
Popular Post spot Posted August 25, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 25, 2014 We wish you all the best on your recovery Ian, it will take time & is a slow process but it's amazing what is achievable, forget all the politics and name calling, as a person we wish you well & as a Dj we thank you for what the Highland Room & the music you brought to us, did to our lifes, I know it changed mine & put me(and my Wife Gail) onto the path we still follow, this scene owes you a a pat on the back & a big Thank You. Spot & Gail. 6
dthedrug Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Hi All.... I hope Ian makes a recovery from this sad event, & I wish him well, on behalf of all the lads from North Herts especially Mick Smith Big Clive & myself, we are thinking of you Ian DAVE K
Arthur Fenn Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Wishing you all the best Ian, get well soon. As Spot said, you were a huge influence to thousands like me back at the Highland room & i treasure those memories .
Mellorful Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 On hearing news like this the politics gets rightly put aside and real life gets put into perspective. Wishing you a speedy recovery, the scene will still be here when you're ready.
Guest chorleybloke Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Echo previous statement re politics = meaningless at times like this. I was a regular visitor to the Highland Room in the mid 70s and although I didn't realise it at the time, those visits influenced the rest of my life, and the 2 blokes who were responsible were Ian & Colin. So fingers crossed for a speedy & full recovery.
Missing Link Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 So sad to hear the news. Wishing Ian a full recovery.
Guest Simon Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Had a few silly run-ins with Ian on here in the past & i sort of regret them now, can't unfortunately turn the clock back but i can at least be better going forward. Having dealt with death & serious illness in recent years in mine & Sam's family it makes you reappraise things & put things into perspective. So as a fellow soul & Dr Who fan i really hope Ian makes a full recovery & can get back to living & enjoying his life to the full. x
