Nocker Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 https://sabotagetimes.com/music/dont-let-northern-soul-be-ruined-by-the-elitist-clique-who-follow-it/ This made interesting reading, some have seen it on facebook Cheers John 1
Markw Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Wake me up when he's finished, so this mean spirited, middle-aged man can vent his spleen and do some sneering and fish whispering!! 1
Popular Post Steve L Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 Don't you just love articles written by someone who knows f-all about what they're writing about? 5
Guest Mart B Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I thought N/S was about the Beer & Sneering lol.
Guest Matt Male Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 It's a strange article, sounds like the interviewer is trying to goad Kev into saying something disparaging, but to his credit Kev doesn't. This person, Craig Campbell has an agenda but Kev doesn't fall for it.
Popular Post Rich B Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 Who is he? And why do we care? 4
Guest Polyvelts Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 The site looks like an online version of 'loaded'.

This person, Craig Campbell has an agenda but Kev doesn't fall for it. Yep that's exactly how it came across to me as well. The mischievous Craig character trying to prove there's a greater divide than their actually is. Anybody know anything about his pedigree? I really can't be asked to google him, although I'm sure he has a very interesting northern soul history, that most will marvel at 2

Popular Post Mellorful Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) Some journalist; just before the Q&A he writes "so what has went wrong"; and he could have written "so what went wrong" or "what has gone wrong". Personally I think a journalist should be literate before trying to produce a provocative article; in terms of medication his physician should prescribe bromide to help him reduce his self abuse. Corbett80 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 When he mentions John Newman 'Love You More' does he mean 'Love You Again'??
Philly Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Wannabe small time independent journalist, who needs to go back to school and learn his English grammar .. he is from Hartlepool .... 1
Pete S Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Lots of sycophantic comments agreeing with him though
Dave Rimmer Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Lots of sycophantic comments agreeing with him though And I've never heard of any of those people either ! 1
Popular Post pow wow mik Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 ‘If you don’t collect you’re not worthy.’ ‘A white label is the only label’ ‘Fuck the overlap class. They don’t belong here.’ Think he's having a bad trip or something; I've never heard anyone say any of those things. Dont know what the second two would even mean. he doesnt seem to realise : the bitter, angry middle aged man spitting bile from behind a keyboard...is him. 7
Guest Bearsy Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I reckon he don't like people with real records and he is only 4'6" tall and can't get a dj spot with his USB memory stick and has probably been banned from SS
Pete S Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 ‘If you don’t collect you’re not worthy.’ ‘A white label is the only label’‘f*ck the overlap class. Dont know what the second two would even mean. he doesnt seem to realise : the bitter, angry middle aged man spitting bile from behind a keyboard...is him. I was laughing at that when I saw it as well. But I still don't know what it means either... 1
Popular Post Philt Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 Brilliant! Where do you get plums that big? Call me elitist but if I couldn't spell 'too' I'd sit really f*cking still when there were pens about. 9
Popular Post Tattoodave Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 I have a condiments set that says "Life is Peppered with ups and downs" and "So take it with a pinch of Salt", so when I read stuff like this I just think "Well there's ten minutes of my life I've wasted, but then having consumed a glass of gin and tonic at the same time it wasn't all a waste", it just means we should close ranks a little more, and not talk to journalists. 4

I'll be using that one in the office. Brilliant. Peter 3
Tattoodave Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 ‘f*ck the overlap class. They don’t belong here.’ I think it's something to do with not going to evening rug making classes
Popular Post Mak Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 Not getting involved , to many buttons to sew onto my trousers . 4
Guest Matt Male Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I'm making a guess here, I wonder if the overlap class is those people who enjoy both upfront and nostalgia nights?
Ian Dewhirst Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 And I've never heard of any of those people either ! Mark Bicknell? Ian D
KevH Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) Can't wait for the over lap dancing classes to start. Me - bitter and twisted? Whispering to fish ? Where did it all go wrong ? Lol Edited August 21, 2014 by KevH
Guest Rob Alias Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Undoubtedly the piece is badly written, but I am sure that there are individuals who will recognise a degree of truth in the wider criticism being made. The fact is that it is still too early for a meaningful (and definitive) examination of the soul scene as it developed (and some might argue ossified) in 'the North', there are still too many individuals with particular interests to defend about for it to be otherwise. Rob Alias
Popular Post spot Posted August 21, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) Well done Kev for not biting, seems to be using snippets etc to provoke, the quote about not playing originals just shows the chasm between old school and the new generation,I still believe if you weren't there you just won't get it 100%, sorry but I'm a cynical, miserable, bitter old fart. Spot. P.s. Bet all, including him are well under 50. Edited August 21, 2014 by spot 4

Ian Dewhirst Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I look down on all of you with scorn. My elitism started before your elitism so there nyaaaah....... Ian D 2
Guest Byrney Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 A well written, balanced and erudite piece of work. This is why Northern Soul, DJs, punters and promoters should embrace all media opportunities.
Soulstu Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) The fact he knows what a Japanese wing tipped Fred Perry is proves he's as big a winker as he thinks we are. Edited August 21, 2014 by SoulStu 1
macca Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Shocking level of literacy. He looks an objectionable sort too.

Rob Alias Pardon? Could you re-phrase in Laymans terms please
Mellorful Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 I tried to establish what an 'overlap class' was so I googled the term. Not wishing to send people to sleep with internet links, it is something for a microsoft developer network or neural network documentation. I am still none the wiser, however, which ever version of the above the journalist was referring to I think it proves beyond all doubt the he has a serious self abuse problem and needs immediate medical treatment. Journalists being reptiles; in this instance the decent thing would be to ask the vet to put down the poor tortured creature.
Iancsloft Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 A great piece of journalism wrote for Viz Magazines Xmas Special 2014....... Cant wait for the article by Roger Melly on bootleg buffets @ oldies nites lol 3
Guest Aaron Darcy Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Craig Campbell needs to be educated ' his's heard about northern soul and jumped on the bandwagon like many others.
Popular Post Dave Pinch Posted August 22, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 22, 2014 i was talking to a woman in a coffee shop last weekend who`d recently been to a soul weekender.... she said they dont make many northern soul records anymore so its fresh to hear john newman and pharrell williams..its about time they started making more northern soul records as there arnt enough to go round the wife just gave me one of her paddington bear stares...i took a deep breath..drank my coffee and left 5
Dave Pinch Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Craig Campbell needs to be educated ' his's heard about northern soul and jumped on the bandwagon like many others. i think guy and gals like craig campbell are beyond education....and sadly we are submerged with folk with that type of thinking 2
