Tlscapital Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Maybe it's done here before, but would anyone know what's the story behind those two label variation of Mary Jane 1005 ? The one edition not featuring the "Mike Terry Arr." also shows slight label variations and even the credit typo for the artists is different. This implies that tey used different/corrected stamps for both the label and credits. Here there is a gap between 'Mary' and 'Jane' and Edward Hamilton and the Arabians are in smaller font plus the typo is another one than on the 'Mike Terry Arr.' copy here below. While this 'Mike Terry Arr.' is clearly showing the same features (logo and fonts) as the following numbers on the label.
Robbk Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Maybe Mike Terry made an agreement with Lou Beatty that he should get arranger credit on the label, so they changed the label mid way through the press run, or they ran a second press run to fulfill that element of their agreement?
Tlscapital Posted August 25, 2014 Author Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) Maybe Mike Terry made an agreement with Lou Beatty that he should get arranger credit on the label, so they changed the label mid way through the press run, or they ran a second press run to fulfill that element of their agreement? Yes, you should be right plus now some more digging and it matches since I've found a picture of Mary Jane 1004 (first with the white and blue label design, not fully red on white checked label) and the logo Mary_Jane have the gap(_) like BDYW without Mike Terry Arr. credit. While BDYW with the Mike Terry Arr. credits has no gap on the logo MaryJane as the following numbers on the catalogue; Edited August 25, 2014 by tlscapital
