This is the dance competition from the Wigan Casino 30th anniversary do held at King George's Hall, Stoke. The girl who comes second is Gill from Manchester who I actually used to go out with having met her at Wigan in 1977 and bumped into here again 26 odd years later, it's a small world out there!

Pretty poor I think. The girl is particularly uncoordinated, cannot spin at all and generally dances like a divvy. The guy does a reasonable impression of a spin dryer but doesn't seem to be listening to the music at all. I reckon it's time for me to go into training.

Agree with Grant and Billy - very poor. But then, the best dancers were NEVER so uncool as to enter dance competitions, were we? :)

Agree with Grant, Billy and John.......dire!

Never been into dance comps.

Yes I think I'm a good dancer, which may be an arrogant statement but I'm not that arrogant to think I'm the best.

Just watch Sammy dancing in this year's Prestayn weekender dvd, then come back and tell me he is crap,He to me has got to be one of the best male dancers on the scene and if one thinks one is good enough to enter a dance competition,... then why not eh? Delxx

Kinnell, I didn't realise people would be so critical, it's only some people dancing and enjoying themselves, they've got some bottle to get up on that stage as it is! I'm just posting up stuff that I hope people will enjoy having a look at.

You are doing a great job Pete.

Plenty of people have enjoyed the clips you have put on the site.

Keep them rolling.

did have the bottle Pete - got to the semi at Wigan but a week before it I tore all the ligaments in hamstring doing a bout of the old kick boxing mate...doesn't actually need that much bottle to get up and dance on a stage, no more than dancin on yer own on the dancefloOr to 'She's Fire' as I did once...too fast for all ye see :)

i won a dance competition once, at cleos in derby around 1978, four of us were in the final, me, a girl from notts, my mate jonny r and "truman"one of the coolest hardest guys around derby , i thought i stood no chance until johnny r did an acrobatic leap into handstand and the rear of his left brogue (with segs) caught truman under his chin, blood and snot everywhere, "truman" sparko, and johnny r trying to apologise and eventually revive him,

i won a fiver and a copy of the most wanted prized 45 around, the bang gang "who said honkeys aint got soul"

wish i still had that fiver :)

by the way good clip pete, girlfriends or ex ones who can dance are to be treasured, my missus of many years prefers pink floyd biggrin.gif

I may not be the best dancer in the world but i enjoy doing my own style of dancing which to some may be a bit different but i never go into competitions so someone can tap me on the shoulder and tell me im not as good as the next man/woman but fair play to those who do as it does take a bit of balls/f*nny to dance in front of everyone who gathers round to scrutinise those who do, for me i dance because i want to and its the music that grabs my sole and makes me do it, i dont dance for trophys i dance for the freedom and the buzz, if your enjoying it who cares, keep smiling and keep dancing as we all think we are the best dont we !!!!

Tracy Holroyd was robbed of that (girl in the full circle) absolutely brill dancer she is.

I though that Sam geezer was good and should have took it (he'd trash me on the floor thats for sure). But the women in the circle skirt does what so many soul fans in circle skirts do i.e. rely on executing fake spins (move around in tight circle) so the skirt rises. IMO dead easy to do and doesnt look good.

Again thanks to Pete for the clip.

beg to differ on that one mate, but I think the term "executing fake spins" is a bit extreme, this lady can dance, and I have witnessed her leaving the floor in mid air still spinning to drop down and turn the other way at the perfect drop of the beat. Not easy to do in my view.

I can easily match the best dancers, but only for about 30 seconds, and that tapers off to 'ton of dynamite' to about 15 seconds.

No wonder the tempo has slowed down, or you would would need oxygen supplies at all the soul nights.

Could be my interpretation of a spin. A spin in my book is when you rotate, quick sharp on one or two feet, mostly from a single propulsion not a series of small bunny hop type spins. Something I stopped doing about decades ago after causing calamity / injury to all around me

Thinking again it could also be that her style of dancing doesnt do it for me, whereas someone like Kebs does - each to their own whistling.gif

The Stoke dancing competition was a joke. The organisers decided to do it on the stage where there wasn't enough room. i don't beleive it was open to everybody to enter. I was told at the time the management selected the few entrants they wanted to dance.

It looked it Soulsmith, can't think of anything more dangerous than executing dance moves like they were doing especially the fella, i would have fell off the stage!

Byrney - Keb Darge, excellant dancer I agree, but I wouldn't describe Tracy's dancing as bunny hops either nor has she caused anybody "injury or calamity" to those around her, she is an excellant portrayal of how a soul girl dances and many a dance competion winner.

Ok, we each have or own definition of the dance style; no biggie my side.

I'm sure I didnt say she causes injury or calamity though, or are quoting my tongue in cheek reference to my dancing to make a point?

I'm glad you think she offers an excellent portrayal of how to dance, good on yer whistling.gif
