Popular Post Mick Boyle Posted August 7, 2014 Popular Post Posted August 7, 2014 As I dont do Facebook and I know Andy got a mention today I thought I would give him a mention on here. Cant believe its 15 years since Andy's tragic accident on 07/08/1999. He was a very close friend for years, his passion for soul was huge and he loved DJing as much as currys. Andy had a motorcycle accident after DJing with his best mate John Poole at the Hollingwood hotel in Chesterfield for Rob Wiggley. Most of my vinyl collection came via Andy and John, two of the records I never got chance to thank him for or pay him (Velvet Hammer - Frankie & Johnny) If hey was around today to see how the scene has gone internet mad, world wide interest and a weekender every weekend he would be in his element. RIP Andy Lee 10
Rich B Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Well done for reminding us Mick! Andy was a huge character, and his passion for northern soul (or occasionally jazz funk) was never diminished. It was most certainly matched by his enthusiasm for curry though! A good lad all round I reckon. 1
Chalky Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Remember the night well. Top top bloke and sadly missed.
Goldsoul Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Andy was my employee in 1977 and a really good fella. His talents were understated. I too miss him and a timely reminder from Micky Boyle and John Poole as to what a good guy he was.
Guest Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Andy was a great bloke and miss the deals that I had with him it feel like last week I have spoken about him with you Mick and not knowing the connection of best mates 15 years its unreal RIP
Steve L Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 The names Andy Lee & John Poole were inseparable round here for what seems to be forever. Cant believe its 15 years since this tragedy. RIP
Rob Wigley Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Yes RIP Andy, standing in for me at the Hollingwood that night. I still remember the phone calls and answering machine messages waiting for me when I got up off nights on the Saturday morning. Also remember going to the crash scene with John & Mick & Maxine on the Sunday Morning and finding Andy's glasses and small items. Its still a mystery how Andy ended up on that stretch of road, I pass the spot a few times a year, now fitted with chevron signs for the bend, I've seen the plaque you put up as well. Always think of him when there. Totally tragic loss of a wonderful, larger than life guy RIP ANDY. 1
Dave Callard Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Saw Andy and John Poole many times double decking at the Brit. Went to Andy's funeral and during the service John got up to speak about his great friend and pay tribute to his life. John must have spoken for the best part of 30 minutes and at the end there was a fantastic ovation and not a dry eye in the place.
Timbob Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 spent many a happy hour talking to andy and john at the brit, also did spots at the adelphi club and bali hai on monday nights, happy times.
Mick Boyle Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Saw Andy and John Poole many times double decking at the Brit. Went to Andy's funeral and during the service John got up to speak about his great friend and pay tribute to his life. John must have spoken for the best part of 30 minutes and at the end there was a fantastic ovation and not a dry eye in the place. Deanna Barns, Tobi Legend and I forget the third, were played at his funeral. I had the honour of carrying the front of his coffin with Kev Thomas. So many turned out for him. Johns tribute was very moving and had its lighter moments. Andy lived for a laugh and was the most welcoming person you could ever wish to meet. 1
