It's terrific - been on my wants list for decades, but I've never even found a mashed up copy for sale, let alone a playable one! The CD is great all the way through, BTW - has some top stuff on it (Moovers, Helene Smith etc.) and is heartily recommended, as are the earlier CDs in the series. TONE PS and BTW - the next CD in the Eccentric Soul series is of Diamond Jim and associated labels! That'll take care of the Terrifics for you, too....

Simon T Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I like to hear properly (i.e. not down the phone) the other mixes of Nurons - All My Life & Curtis - How Can I Tell her (no, not the 12" mix)
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Thanks Tony, where can I purchase the CD's then? I got mine off Amazon.Com, reasonably priced too. I can't remember the actual name of the label, but if you go to their site and type in "Eccentric Soul" all three releases should come up OK. TONE
Sebastian Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Curtis - How Can I Tell her (no, not the 12" mix) So you need the 7" mix then? Here it is: (what a pounding tune!!! )Curtis___How_Can_I_Tell_Her.mp3
Pete S Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I've got that Grand Prix thing, I'll have to convert it from cassette though. The Tobi Bowe record used to be £3 and is horrible compared to Mamie Lee
vaultofsouler Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I like to hear properly (i.e. not down the phone) the other mixes of Nurons - All My Life & Curtis - How Can I Tell her (no, not the 12" mix) Well you learn summat everyday Simon.... it's a personal fave but I didn't think there was enough copies of this to have "other mixes" ....

The other mix of the Nurons didn't get released. Someone played it down the phone to me and when I asked him to copy for me, he somehow had just lost the cassette!

Someone played it down the phone to me and when I asked him to copy for me, he somehow had just lost the cassette! Mmmmm.... Probably someone playing about with a PC proggy, or summat, to change it I suspect then Simon.... bit like those Pete Smith did and put up on here for a laugh a good few months ago....
Quinvy Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 I like to hear properly (i.e. not down the phone) the other mixes of Nurons - All My Life & Curtis - How Can I Tell her (no, not the 12" mix) Blimey, talk about chalk and cheese. Nurons is a fantastic piece of group soul that I would dearly love to own. The other is f***ing offensive to my taste and takes over 4 minutes to get to the vocal. If thats the 7inch I dread to think what the 12inch is like. ........ Sorry Simon, I know we all have different taste, but to me those two tunes are worlds apart. One is SOUL, the other is disco...... I just can't see how you can like both those styles. No offence tho mate, it's probably just me being narrow minded.

I doubt it as his technical skills don't go much beyond working a tape player! Anyway he played it to a mate in his presence. Maybe I shouldn't have called him a tight ****!
Simon T Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 So you need the 7" mix then? Here it is: (what a pounding tune!!! ) No sorry thats the omnipresent common or garden 7" mix .This was a Charm City 7" too, played to me just as I was leaving to catch a train so couln't have a good examination of it. Thnaks anyway.

Simon T Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 That MP3 is taken from my Charm City 45. Were there two different versions of this released on Charm City 45s? Yes, I've got the 7" that you have t0o, & the 12", but it's a different mix to both of them. Also, it is a proper 45, I've had it my hands for a moment and that was years ago before 'vinyl carvers'!

Just checked out Manship's homepage and he mentions: CURTIS - How Can I Tell Her / I Remember - CHARM CITY 1879 CURTIS - How Can I Tell Her / I Remember - CHARM CITY 1932 (1st. Mix 4.32 long) Strange that the "first mix" has got a higher catalogue number than the supposedly "second mix" though. Would really like to hear it.

However luv this other track by them. Two more tunes that have eluded me over the years are :- Velvets - Lovin On Borrowed Time (always been Phil Orsi version when I 've heard it out) - is it much different? Lover to hear it if anyone can help. Diane Minor - I'm Gonna Walk - (better or not tham Mickey Lanay??~) Grant

Hi Geoff, Well I'm lying actually, Dickie played it at The Cricket Club last year and I thought it was fantastic. Since then Cliff got it off Dickie and I have no chance of getting him to play it for me, let alone do me a cd...... My only hope is to get him to play it at The Burnley Allnighter next month... You know what he's like, SECRET SQUIRREL It's also in Tim Browns guide so he must have it I presume.
Simon T Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Dave Hall - Look At Me Thanks Pete. Is it the same backing as 'Go On' or just very similar? Is there a conection to Jimmy Mack- MWIOF?
