Northern Soul Uk Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Well the post header says it all really. I have had a 12" album under heavy books for about 6 weeks thinking it might work, but no. So any tried and tested methods that actually work? Thanks
Mellorful Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Not tried this personally but here is an internet link. https://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Warped-Vinyl-Record Not sure about a book on the hot glass in case of fire but guess as brick would provide weight provided gently placed.
Mellorful Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 A further link that doesn't include glass or oven. Presume a conservatory would be ideal place for this process as the heat in summer can be very warm. 2
dthedrug Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 HI All you must have seen on TV them adverts for steam cleaners, I got a hand held one for £20, it worked well on edge type warps, place edge of record on safety glass, (a shelf out of your fridge is ideal) from about 10" work the steamer from glass to the edge of the record, blast for 5 seconds then press a flat piece of glass over the warp, you could add a weight, please practice on any old record several times before trying to repair a rare record, DAVE K 2
DerekG Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Device made for the job here :- https://www.vinylflat.com/vinylflatproducts.html Bit expensive unless you'll use it enough to justify cost 2
TOAD Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 How about using a record clamp / puck ive seen them advertised via the pro-ject website from £30 upwards 1
Guest Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I have tried heat. If you get it slightly to hot it flattens the warp out fine, but distorts the playing grooves!!
Northern Soul Uk Posted July 30, 2014 Author Posted July 30, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions. Not tried any yet but think I'll give the glass and oven method a go. Don't think there'll be enough heat outside or even in a conservatory for the tiles method to work. Thanks again
Britmusicsoulfan Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I second Vinyl Flat. I had a 50s R&B Excello 45 with a severe dish warp. I have a friend that has one. It took four times in the heating pouch (maybe 8+ hours), but it's completely flat now and plays great!
Premium Stuff Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 What temperature in an oven is right please? Should the oven fan be switched on or off? Cheers Richard
Steve S 60 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Came across this when I was looking for some contact lens cleaning solution.....
Souljer6 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Put record between 2 thin, inflexible surfaces (safety glass would do), into a trouser press and then use clamps to get a really tight fit. switch on, leave 12 hours, intermittingly switching on.
