Guest Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I've said it before, I'll say it again-good job Ian Levine isn't black because then we would have comments about how he rapes white women or eats lots of watermelon or some of the other racist shit. The same old story. What are the 'rough trade' comments about on the ebay thing? I have seen money change hands between Ian Levine and artists. I will testify in court to that. If artist do a bad deal then thats their lookout. Ask ask virtually anyone who's been involved in the music business for the last forty five years.
Mak Posted July 27, 2006 Author Posted July 27, 2006 (edited) Me thinks the seller wants to land HIM on HIS bottom............... Edited July 27, 2006 by MAK
Guest Simon Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Still think this is not a bad record, quite a passable dancer, it's a shame that all the lies about the records history put people off before the record had a chance to be judged just on it's musical merits. There's also the snobbery factor with a pop idol singing the lead vocal & of course as soon as Levine is involved in a tune nowadays a lot of people immediately dis it, i know he's brought most of it upon himself but stilll think he's been involved in some good tunes, Venicia Wilson ' This time i'm loving you' is particularly good imo. Simon

Pete S Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I like Ian in the main and I keep out of it when there's Levine bashing going on but you have to have a look at this link and read the article, it all sounds so familiar yet it's nothing to do with Northern Soul https://www.thevervoid.com/columns/inlibtd/ianlevine.htm

People may not like Levine, but at least it should be for the right reasons. To bring his sexuality into the equation is pathetic. Whoever he/she is they should be ashamed of themselves. Winnie:-)
Guest Stuart T Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I've said it before, I'll say it again-good job Ian Levine isn't black because then we would have comments about how he rapes white women or eats lots of watermelon or some of the other racist shit. The same old story. But Simon, its well known that the 4 Vandals was pressed on vinyl which was made with ingredients including blubber from cute likkle baby seals slaughtered in Canada by Al Queda. Whilst I can't state that I am Ian's friend or fan the homophobic comments are a bit much, if someone wants to take the p#ss out of Ian there is much better material to go for based around other personality traits and past acts rather than going down the "he's gay you know" line which isn't fair and implies that there is something wrong with all gay people. And anyone who thinks different can FOAD.
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 wrong side of town is over ten years old !!!!!! please tell me what other record has caused so much fuss and attention over the last ten years ?
Guest Stuart T Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 wrong side of town is over ten years old !!!!!! please tell me what other record has caused so much fuss and attention over the last ten years ? The Venetia Wilson runs it fairly close. The fuss and attention has, of course, all been for the wrong reason. Two not particularly bad records, I quite like the Venetia Wilson, not particularly keen on the 4 Vs though. They now have their place in northern soul folklore and history and finished off the reputation of one of the scene's best known figures. The latter point is perhaps rather sad.

Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 (edited) tell that to Gary Glitter. why spiol your self stuart T , i think that Glitter was made an example of as he fled this country to avoid paying Tax. and the rules of consent are not univesal. the same thing happend to Graham Rix of Chelsea, when the bird said she was 18 when she was only 14 . and tiddlewinks are all small people, rock & roll OI rock & Roll what ever next Gary glitter on soul source !!!!! post amended as it quoted another member in error. shane Edited July 28, 2006 by ShaneH
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Fair comments Stuart. Funny I never liked Venicia Wilson myself - too shrill and speeded up sounding for my liking but loads do like it. 'Right To Survive' by Vivian Courtland has been my Levine record of choice for some time - great positive lyrics, great tune, and a fantastic vocal. Ian is his own worst enemy...and here we are talking about him YET AGAIN ! Regards to the Four Vandals scandals...I guess it's a bit like the Tom Cruise thing where someone squirted him with water...if you were Tom Cruise and were the subject of the joke then you'd be pretty pissed off, but some people thought it was great. The Venetia Wilson runs it fairly close. The fuss and attention has, of course, all been for the wrong reason. I think other things apart from the tax attracted him to other climates. Anyway, keeping on post, had a look at the post on Ebay, so the seller is from Philly, is that correct? So IL has upset the seller somewhere along the way then? Do we know why they are so upset? Not a sarky post, just me being nosey post amended as it quoted another member in error. shane Edited July 28, 2006 by ShaneH

paultp Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 wrong side of town is over ten years old !!!!!! please tell me what other record has caused so much fuss and attention over the last ten years ? I really liked this when I heard it and the other side was good too, think they are both on a Goldmine CD. I just never understood why the tunes were passed off as some newly discovered 60's record. There seemed to be more emphasis on duping people than on the quality of the music. I wonder whether If they had been introduced as what they were (i.e. recently recorded) they would have been accepted by the scene? Or perhaps it is the fuss and attention that is key here
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 The guy from Philly is unhappy at, and I quote, "the way he f*cked over all those soul singers for his film" did berry Gordy do a similar thing when they moved to LA, and who then came to the rescue and tried to give them artist another crack of the whip ? and who was given the freedom of the city of Detroit for doing it ?

Guest Stuart T Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 (edited) why spiol your self stuart T , i think that Glitter was made an example of as he fled this country to avoid paying Tax. and the rules of consent are not univesal. I thought he left the country because he left his computer at Dixons for repair and they found a whole load of paedophile material on the hard drive and reported him to the police. Tax avoidance doesn't appear to have been his primary focus! I can't recall how young the girls were that he was prosecuted for having or attempting to have sex with, but rules of consent to sex are largely irrelevant when you are dealing with a child, no matter what the local law provides (sexual consent is as low as nine in some countries, I'm sure that most men wouldn't regard that as any excuse, or even want to sleep with someone under at least the age of 16 - even that age is a bit dodgy unless you're a teenager yourself IMHO). post amended as it quoted another member in error. shane Edited July 28, 2006 by Stuart T
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 We know what he was on about Pete. He feels he's fighting the corner for some of the thousands of artists who feel they've been ripped off in the music business. Tell it to the judge. Tell it to King Records, Cameo Parkway, Brunswick, Apple, EMI whoever. There are pletny of others who have done it in a legal way for fifty years. He's chosen Ian Levine because he's an easy target who dares to actually do something new and put his head above the parapet. He has chosen one of the easiest parts of the target, i.e. than Ian Levine is gay, something he's not trying to hide at all but for some reason seems to still be am evil crime in some eyes mainly those of nutters and those who have nothing interesting in their own lives and usually site God as their witness. How the f*** did Gary Glitter get brought into all this? Sadly it just shows how some peoples nasty little minds work.
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Don't start asking me questions, I'm telling you what the bloke said cos I emailed him and asked him what he was on about how did the record get to philly when only 500 where made in Park Royal !!!! and all sold three years ago and then to sell it for $9 when the postage is more ? WHATCH OUT IT COULD BE A BOOT
Guest Lucy Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 (edited) I don't know Ian Levine, not even sure if I've ever met him. Have obviously heard the stories over the years, but to be honest don't take too much notice of other peoples opinions. But IMHO and I can only speak for myself all this banter from The sidekick only seems to make the mud already flying stick more. Edited July 28, 2006 by Lucy

Guest Stuart T Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 How the f*** did Gary Glitter get brought into all this? Sadly it just shows how some peoples nasty little minds work. FFS Simon I introudced Gary Glitter as a response to Snidec#nt's allegation that in showbusiness all publicity is good publicity, which it clearly isn't. I don't think that means that I have a nasty little mind, and wonder what exactly you are reading into it? Then I could argue that in fact you have a nasty little mind and give you a FOAD but I won't as I am in an exceptionally good mood today, all is well in EC4 and I am a happy bunny. For clarification I am in no way alleging that Ian Levine has indulged in paedophilia or seeking to put that idea in anyone's mind and would not have mentioned Gary Glitter had I though that anyone could take that implication from my reference to him, okay? you want a laugh then , what about this one !! one of my latest rocket recording lol lol lol lol Well lets look on the bright side, at least you finally got to hear some decent music.
Guest Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Fair do's Stuart- it just seemed a strange train of thought to me. P.S. don't mind being told to FOAD btw !

Guest Andy BB Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 It's ok but I wouldn't buy a cd just for that personally Bloody hell I would! You could put it on a 12 album limited edition boxed set otherwise consisting purely of Euro Trance and I'd still stump up.
