Hi Soul Lovers,

Hope you're well and looking forward to some good times as is your due. Here's a list of Northern & Modern Soul sevens for your consideration, if you see anything you'd like to buy then please send a Reply.

1. Take Your Time - FESTIVALS (Colossus)................Mint-...............very friendly Crossover dancer, pleasant on the ears and feet, smooth groover from 1973 and no denying how classy it is..........£20

2. Mama's Little Baby Is A Big Girl Now (Vocal/instrumental) - KRIS PETERSON (Pelikin).............Mint-.................to me, it's totally unbelievable that Northern Soul DJ's and dudes haven't leapt on this cool, cool gem. It's Kings Road and Saville Row Soul, very smart indeed, you need sunglasses on just to listen to it! Every move it makes just oozes sexiness!!..................£25

3. Yes, My Goodness, Yes - AL PERKINS (Atco)...............Mint-....................£20

4. Never Again - LITTLE ANTHONY & THE IMPERIALS (DCP).....Mint-.........N. Soul Beat Ballad dancer with huge orchestral kick up the arse and booming kettle drums. All in all, beautiful...................£12

5. Beg Me / This Broken Heart - CHUCK JACKSON (Wand)..............two strong Big City Soul Northern sides well worth spinning,  we're not too proud to beg either.................£20

6. Sock It To 'Em J.B. - REX GARVIN & THE MIGHTY CRAVERS (UK red Atlantic, 1966)..........VG++.............nice condition Northern club favourite, big daddy of all dance-floors late 60's and early 70's...................£25

7. To Each His Own - FAITH, HOPE & CHARITY (RCA).....................VG++......................lovely 1975 Van McCoy production. Falls in line with t'producer's "Hustle" style but by heck it's good 'un, fair makes you want to dance a bit..................£8

9. Bread & Water - MIKE FINNIGAN and THE SURFS (Parkway demo).....................Mint-.............bread?...........water?..............we had nowt us Casino regulars but we did hear this stomper played a few times by Richard......................£30

10. Calling For Your Love - THE ENTICERS (UK red Atlantic).............VG++.................bit of a RARITY this and a spellbinding piece of music too. A top-rated Crossover dancer from 1971, not heavy enough to be called Northern but comes from that neck of the woods. Whoever plays, hears or dances to this mouth-watering goody will be experiencing 2 minutes and 41 seconds of sheer pleasure........................£40 (Pick of the list).

11. Thank You Baby For Loving Me - SOUL BROTHERS SIX (UK Atlantic re-issue, 1974).............VG++..............one of those early Northern Soul re-issues put out due to audience demand and what a cracker it is; Gospel meets Northern out on the floor with that unique tribal, almost Red Indian-type thumping beat, magnificent!.................................£12

12. Stay Close To Me - FIVE STAIRSTEPS (Curtom)..............VG++.......................a more joyful Northern Soul dancer it'd be hard to find even though there are many such and we enjoy them all. Has the stamp of Curtis Mayfield all over it which makes it a must-have for any DJ hoping to keep the floor buzzing...................£15

13. You Better Watch Out - GWEN OWENS (UK Casablanca demo)............Mint-................1974 release, bouncy Northern/Crossover dancer, played at Blackpool Mecca on its release by the one and only Ian Levine.................£15

14. Happiest Girl In The World - PLUS 4 (Warner Bros.)..............VG++.............rare green issue, terrific Northern girl group soul dancer, fast-paced and sharp..................£40

15. Got To Be Your Lover - THE PROFILES (Duo)................Mint-................................nice one, strong-sounding, mid-tempo Northern dancer...............£65

16. Do The Tighten Up - MAJOR LANCE (Dakar)............VG++.....................this is not the Archie Bell "Tighten Up", no, it's a damn good Northern Soul stomper though with Lancey sounding as if he's just wandered over to the Okeh studios and said: "Quick! Giz another "It's The Beat" wilt tha?"................well they did and this was the result, brilliant!......................£35

17. Look Away - THE SHIRELLES (Scepter).................VG++..................you'll be surprised how good and proper Northern Soul-sounding this is, I was. Not too girly by any means and this is definitely one any dancer will still love tomorrow...................RECOMMENDED *****............£15

18. What Can A Man Do - BEN E. KING (Atco).....................Mint-................as punchy and powerful as t'lads "Can't Break The News To Myself", thoroughly Northern and deserving of plays; what can a DJ do, other than play great tunes such as this!..............£30

19. Baby What I Mean - THE DRIFTERS (Atlantic).............VG++...................here's Ben's old mates saying "Now Kingy's out of t'road let's start doing summat they can all dance to" coming up with this gem not long after he'd gone solo. They didn't stand by him did they? This is a firm favourite at The Twisted Wheel and usually means a full dance-floor too.......................£25

20. Where Will You Go When The Party's Over - ARCHIE BELL & THE DRELLS (P.I.R)...........VG++...............Modern Soul magic, Philly sound at its very best.....................£25

21. Why Don't They Leave Us Alone - CARL CARLTON (Back Beat)................VG++............Great mid-paced dancer that dancers will grow to love if played a bit more, I'd be up if this one came on, beware though I'm all arms and legs!!!..............£20

22. More Love That's What We Need - THE GOSPEL CLASSICS (Checker)............VG++....................a tune that needs broadcasting loud and clear, this superb Northern dancer has tried in vain to change the world but still sounds great wherever it's played...............£130

23. Ten Commandments - PRINCE BUSTER (Philips)............VG++.................seems to be a faster recording than the UK Bluebeat version and is more of an R&B/Northern dancer than it is ska...................£15

24. You Don't Love Me No More - RENALDO DOMINO (Smash).................VG++.................£30

25. Price Of Love - MARSHALL & THE CHI-LITES (Dakar)..............VG++.........................£25

Thank you very much for looking at the list, keep loving your vinyl,

Cheers, Carl (Beatin Rhythm).
