CHEERS BAZ A,

Think this is one of those that everyone dreams of owning. It's been top of my wants list for quite some time now, along with other dream titles like Celebrities, Tranells, Four Dynamics, Explosive Dynamiks, Mr. Lucky, Little Stanley, Poets, Saints........etc. etc.etc..... ph34r.gif

Good luck tho' Baz

Yeah your right ,suppose thats why when there do go for auction sky is the limit, could Of got the the Trannells, years back when a certain Rob Marriot had one [still kick myself tot his day].Love the Saints also, know Andy Dyson has one .The four dynamics showed on Ebay last year I tracked it and it was bought by a American dealer.

I suppose all you can do is put it out there as you never know.

Cheers mate

You'll get a copy if you really want one Baz, took me 6 years to get my fave tune, without ever hearing one played out or seeing one on a sales list, just keep on asking around & it'll turn up at some stage.

I would say this record is easier than the one i was after, i've deffo seen them up for sale, think the last person i heard play it was Kitsch, fantastic tune, good luck!

Simon

P.S. My no.1 want is Tina Roberts, couldn't afford one at the mo but one day hopefully.

At the risk of being lynched......Imho if this record wasn't rare it would be recognised for the badly produced, badly sung mess that it really is. tongue.gif

Bloody hell Simon, which bit is badly sung, badly produced or messy. Sounds fantastic to these clean washed ears. There's a lot going on in there but that adds to the excitement that the vocals create, and the production keeps everything clear. I wish it wasn't rare then I might actually have a chance of owning one.

Thers a rumour that it's The Carstairs. Doesn't sound like Cleveland Horne to me tho.

I had a discussion with a big name deejay about this record a while back when we were trying to put it onto a compilation but couldn't get a copy to master from. He seemed to think he had The Appointments on Red Coach stashed away somewhere.

Yes it's a bloody 'nightmare' need to be a bit more high-energy and maybe some incessant jingle bells?

Fooking Gene Redd must be the second worse producer and arranger of soul records on the planet!

Nice one Simon! Have I missed something re. the Carstairs? is this the same version as the Appointments or are they the same group?

Jordi

Apparently not, though I think they're the same group, but maybe a different lead singer? Have a listen, what do you think?

T'other side 'Keep Away' came out on Red Coach too. ISYT is a Red Coach production (Gene Redd = Red Coach records)

Not sure I agree with you there Simon...I think the inclusion of jingle bells would detract from the lack of melody and make it too 'Christmassy'.

Intersting thought tho. Last time I heard this out was at Bury when Mick H played it and I have to say it sounded much better there than I rememberd it. Still a mess tho.

I had a long conversation there that night with someone telling me how 'gay' Northern soul was. His arguement was that they were all showtunes with big overly dramatic vocals and cliched lyrics.:thumbsup::lol:

Gene Redd was a great producer IMHO..isn't he the father of Sharon Redd, famous singer of 'Love Insurance' ' Can You Handle It' 'Beat The Street' 'Never Give You Up' 'Love Is Gonna Get Ya' 'Send Your Love' and 'In The Name Of Love' (northern potential that one) ? Or was that another Redd?

One of those tunes that sounds much better when played out. Really vital and exciting. And those breaks  fantastic. Total dance floor viagra, gets me up every time.

I saw Sharon perform in a club in North London in 1990. She was great.
