Keeper Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Can anyone tell me how many times (legitimately) I spy was issued in the UK...Thanks.
Pete S Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Four I think Two Polydor in the 60's Then on Mojo Then on plastic label Polydor
Chris L Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 For the Polydor release 56709 is the original 1966 one, the later one is 56755, I think that came out in 1969.
Chris L Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Here's a couple of interesting ones : The first one has the SABAM script, that is a Belgian only licensing body, I have to assume made for the Belgian market by Mojo UK. The other is I guess a UK issue, I've not seen one like this before, they tended to centreless and of course black.
Benji Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 The belgian press looks like a bootleg to me. I mean, just look at the logo. and the overall appearance of the label. Smells fishy. BTW, I keep seeing an allegedly german press of Jamo Thomas on lists. Can somebody confirm that there's really one?

dthedrug Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 HI ALL One of the most popular soul records of all time in the UK, hence all the reissues, mind you it may be common to most, my copy is what makes me & others collect UK, Not the rarest on the label but still a very hard find, not sure of current value, at a guess £300 but Pete Smith will know DAVE K my copy 3
Derek Pearson Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 And I'd never heard of this version until last year 1

I've only ever had one of these whereas I've had or had the opportunity to own many a Tony Middleton or Edwin Starr demo. Great record. Regards, Dave 1
Tlscapital Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 You could well be right, they were experts at doing this sort of thing. Yes but no. This was official but cheaply manufactured. With its PS 1

dthedrug Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 HI ALL.. HERES A MUSIC FACT FOR LIFE (make a good thread I think). Over 10 years ago at least, I used to travel to KEELE ALL-NIGHTER with Mick Smith, on our journey from Wolves to Soul on Spoon, Mick like to listen to tapes I did, in particular,, the RADIO SHOWS from PCRL The Sunday afternoon soul show, I hope they will forgive me for forgetting the hosts name, also any one else? there was a conversation with Richard (popcorn) Wylie, in the interview the host played Luther Ingram's version of "I spy for the FBI" Popcorn stated that Luthers version is In fact the original & Jamos was the 2nd version, and went on to become a world wide hit, both of us did not know that fact, I wonder what Luther thought about the Jamo Thomas version becoming the big hit,? I have not got a copy of "Exsus trek, who is credited as writer / producer / publisher it can't be JT DAVE K
Jim G Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Anyone heard this version ? ( probably rubbish ) https://www.ebay.com/itm/JOHN-HIATT-1980-MCA-Promo-45-I-SPY-FOR-THE-FBI-/130502957273?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item1e629518d9
TOAD Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Luther Ingram on smash is the one to get heavy on the Detroit connection! 1
