Popular Post Paul R Posted July 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted July 9, 2014 As far as I know, he was the only rare soul artist to have been named after 2 Midlands towns. Paul 5
Steve G Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Ian Clark had a picture of him from his funeral service......we published it in Blackbeat, wasn't a great photo.
Robbk Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Too bad you didn't post this in 1980. He didn't have any copies of his Labeat record, but he DID have a few artist photos of himself. I could have asked him for one. Of course, there was no Internet then, to have this forum, or the need for his photo.
Robbk Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Can anyone direct me to that photo of Lester Tipton, I think it was on his funeral service program, sorry if thats morbid, a friend needs a photo of him thanks Pete, is your friend writing a story on Lester's career?
Pete S Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Pete, is your friend writing a story on Lester's career? No idea Robb, I think she was just interested in his story, not a writer as far as I know
Guest Dave Turner Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Not a photo as such but looking around the net finding the odd reference to Lester Tipton who along with his sister Leslie were regular dancers on Robin Seymour's Swingin' Time. His niece describes him as having been a real trend setter, smart and with David Ruffin type glasses and that her dad had a video of him on dancing on Swingin' Time's Salute To The Supremes. Here's the vid and who I believe may be Lester Tipton can been in a lot of the dance floor scenes all the way through from 1.44 onward A shame there doesn't seem to be a vid of Lester & Leslie winning the American Bandstand 1968 dance comp The better and closer views at .. 2.52 14.43 (glasses in his hand) Think I'm on the right track, may be wrong but I don't think so ... I'm just putting 2 & 2 together Edited July 9, 2014 by Dave Turner
Robbk Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) I didn't get a real good look at him, but, of the 2 black male dancers. the one with the sunglasses is the only one who could be Lester. I met him in 1977 (some years later than that broadcast). He was a good friend of Tom DePierro's and friendly with a lot of The Motown people from Detroit. He had known them there. He and Leslie came out to L.A. to try to get work in films and on TV. Edited July 9, 2014 by RobbK 1
Guest Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Good one Robb, looks a bit like David Ruffin.....looks a cool dude!
