Bagasulph Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 A friend just acquired a handful of 45s and asked me to look at them. Some nice bits, some I'm not sure of their authenticity though.. Mel Britt - She'll Come Running Back. This one I believe to be legit. Stamped run out etc. How much is it worth nowadays? Willie Brown - Love That Stranger/Get Out and Get It. I didn't look too closely at this one, but I see it's been "reissued". How would I know the original? What's the current value? Ronnie McNeir - Sitting In My Class. I'm a bit dubious about this one. It doesn't look like a bootleg, but the labels do seem to be in very good condition for such an old record. Is there a way to tell? (Just looked at discogs and can maybe answer my own question - this copy has DETO in a straight font which Discogs lists as a reissue, the other has a more logo-ish type, so I'm guessing this one isn't legit?) Thanks for any help.
Pete S Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Ronnie McNair should have a stamp in the run off and proper logo. £600 - £800 Mel Britt, make sure it's not got a thin white outer circle edge of the label. They all have proper stamps but the fake one isn't quite straight and also there's probably the initials PB in the run off somewhere. If real £1000
Bagasulph Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Thanks Pete. As I suspected R McNeir is fake. So even Mel Britt boots are stamped? I'll have a closer look at the label next time. "PB" initials are on the genuine copies you say?

"PB" initials are on the genuine copies you say? There's two fakes, first one, vinyl, this is really scarce and was the first one that fooled everyone. It has a stamped ztsc matrix but it's not quite straight. Second one, done from the same plates as that one, is on styrene, again stamped, but easy to tell by the white outer ring. First one definitely has a PB scratched in, second probably does but haven't got one here to look at. The stripes on the original are more "orangey" as well.
Kjw Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 The second press of Willie Brown has a steep dip on the label towards the centre hole
Guest Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 The Mel Britt original has the stamp the correct way up, the 70s boots are stamped but the stamp is upside down. I just sold one on Ebay last week for £25.00
