I only issue a warning when I do oldies ones because before I've had people saying "blimey what a played out bunch of oldies" but that's the point sometimes!  I've done enough rarities compilations to keep people going for months.  This time I decided I would dig out every oldie I really liked, going right back to the youth club days, and post up the lot, eventually.

Just done part 3 and will try and get that posted today if I can.

Thanks for listening everyone.

If a musical genre doesn't tip its hat to the past then it runs the risk of fragmenting and going the way Jazz went.

Thanks for the hard work Pete, even though I think it might be a labour of love.

No hard work involved Chris, apart from typing up the track listings.  I love doing the podcasts, and the reggae ones, and the punk ones, whatever.  Shame my broadband isn't working properly or there'd be all 10 volumes of it up by now.

Nice to see The Outsiders there Pete, does seem to get forgotten nowdays due to it being LP only

True, though it sounds weird hearing it in stereo off the LP as opposed to the old bootleg which was in mono and way more powerful.  Blimey I did some jumping around to that record when I was 15!

OLD SCHOOL NORTHERN SOUL PART 2

The second part of our Oldies extravaganza...400+ still to come. My broadband has been running at practically nothing for 3 weeks now due to an underground fault which BT are taking ages to sort, hence not as many uploads as usual. This one took over 2 hours to upload, it usually takes 10 minutes! If anyone doesn't want to wait and wants all 500 tracks, let me know

Pete

Always like to listen to your uploads.  I'm not madly familiar with Mixcloud. Do these have to be played from the web, or can the podcast be downloaded onto one's computer?

Well officially, they can't be downloaded, they are just to be listened to.

But there's always a way.

Copy the url, and then go to

www.offliberty.com

and paste it in, it should download it for you

or there is a program called mixcloud harvester which will do the same thing

takes about 20 mins to download the podcasts usually

Much obliged to you sir. As someone who didn't get to that many venues years ago, there are still a few new sounds to me.

The bugger for me, is that I remember some of Pete's oldies as newies, I'll enjoy tonight, listening to some of these, Thanks Pete.

Thanks Pete S

Think you've got the oldies scene covered there.

One or three I had almost forgotten.

Me too Dave, that's why there are so many from that period 1974 to 1978, those were my peak years so to speak and we'd have been at the Casino when many of those were spun for the first time, which is why they carry such precious memories.  (Sorry, 76 to 78 for me, 74 and 75 were youth club years)

There should be more as there are another 7 episodes to go!

All out of the top drawer Pete. Reads like a best of the best list. These are timeless classics, still as good today as they were back in the day. Much more of this and you'll end up on the Queen 's Birthday Honours list.

Great selection including non Wigan stuff like Diane Lewis YAGAC. I'm guessing a lot of these will be new to those on the nostalgia scene so this can only be a good thing.

These are absolutely great Pete. Proper memory jerkers. Thanks for the tip about offliberty too, it's good to be able to download them. I think these'll work nicely through my headphones at the gym later, though doubt they'll make me run any faster.....

Cheers
