Guest Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 This is probably common knowledge but...who's the harmonising voice on Doris' 'Just One Look' ?

Guest Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 (edited) I assume it's a girl. Edited July 25, 2006 by Simon White
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I assume it's a girl. Hi Simon, I've always been pretty sure that it's Doris harmonising with herself on her two best Atlantic records. You will be aware that JOL and What'cha Gonna Do 'Bout It are actually demos that were deemed good enough for release, thus it's likely she just overdubbed her own voice for harmonies. If not, and it's a male voice, it's likely to be co-composer Gregory Carroll, who used to be in the Cadillacs and thus, it's safe to assume, knew a thing or two about harmony himself. Best, TONY
Guest Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Hi Tone, I didn't know they were originally demos ! Had a few more listens to JOL (what a flipping record) and it's definately a girl with her there and on a few more listens it could well be Doris herself as the second voice. I also didn't realise it was a Cadillac who co wrote it. I presume Gregory Carroll is related to Earl Carroll then? However, I believe that Gregory Carroll was also Doris's husband at the time of Just One Look and like Tony I seem to remember reading that she dubbed her own voiceover as harmony.

Bailey, who definitely WAS in the Cadillacs during the late 50s/early 60s! Blame in on post-Porretta heatstroke.... I do however believe that Earl and Gregory are indeed related, although the latter never was a Cadillac. TONE
