I wonder if the US dealers have clocked the price and will then put their copies up for auction and we see a sudden glut of sales and prices fall.

Mrs Thatcher would have said its supply and demand........

I fear many DJ's will now try and prove their financial wealth by spinning them at events and reminding the audience that these are expensive records.... and I will be wishing they would be more imaginative and instead prove their intellectual wealth and play an interesting spot.

I like Chalky's comment with Wade Flemons - Jeanette  .... I would only add the word Big before the word yawn.

I spose theyre being played to a relatively new audience tho, who never heard em when they went big first time around & thats why DJ's that play those gigs, who play OVO & have only been around again a few years will pay through the teeth for em...both great records, but should have given em a far longer holiday before putting em back to work again & at what price.....

If you think the amount of copies will effect the selling price your nuts, just look at medium rare records like the Cashmeres, there's one for sale almost every week, certainly every month & it doesnt effect the price.....

a recent discovery, 30 plus years recent?

Can't pin down the first time I heard it played out but roundabout the turn of the century. Might have had odd plays here and there before going big, but for someone who has been on the scene over 40 years, it is relatively recent if it is 13-15 years since making an impact. There are about 60 copies listed on Popsike dating back to 2003 making it pretty common, but nevertheless a very highly rated record looking at the prices realised.

It's popularity might have been on the rise the last 15-20 years but it was around long before that.  It got little turntable action because it wasn't considered good enough at the time and it was too common for the rare soul scene, there were copies everywhere.  I certainly heard it and knew about it in the 80's as did many others.

Certainly loads of copies of Jeanette around in the 70s/80s , was a £1 record for years ,  didn't get much exposure due to the fact it was so common ,

I used to pick up multiple copies of it in brighton when i moved there in the 90's a common record and not very good. His other release on the other hand much more elusive and far better.

Yep, it's become a hot-box spin but stands up well compared to other recent 'discoveries'. Just wish these DJ's with no imagination would flood the market with their cast-offs.

Why do hotbox dj's fill there hot boxes with such dreary rubbish?

Might anger some here but to me Wade Flemmons would have been more suited to Top of the pops in it's day!

Come on.... it's not the thinking mans record

Is that what you think?

Given current demand i'd say £500 easy in nice condition, is the demo or issue more ££ ?? i turned down £450 a few months back for a minty demo

Exactly the same as the issue Pete but with demo stamped on it.

Both are over exposed for sure, to say flemmons is hammered is like saying oscar petorius is mentally ill. But both would give any aspiring dj the ability to fill a floor at 'bog standard soul night inc'. The perfectly obvious option to open a set, after mumbling something into the mike about the Swadlingcote crew loving it.

  • 1 month later...

Len or Dave Vanner had Jeanatte in the mid 90's and it was at The Embankment I first heard it and that piano launched me off my seat then....and still does. I think the copy's back then were about £400. I got mine for £250 in '99....wol but mint grooves!x Turley I heard for the first time ever when going to Kings Hall with the Togetherness DVD's before Xmas....2013! FANTASTIC tune....for the uneducated or newbie.......dunno which I class meself. as....just Sooty does me!x I managed to get a copy in February this year from the States for £225. It is the most i;ve spent on a tune of any kind this year and perhaps for the past 3 since acquiring The Professionals That's Why I love You which has been a want since 1993!x Clueless as to why these records have reached the price they have on Ebay....but......it's a buyers market!x I ain't selling tho'......!!!x

Not any more.  Hammered that much first three notes and its a yawn, another DJ with no imagination  :wicked:

Have to agree, first three notes and i want to go home because I know, as Chalky says, Im in for an unimaginative, boring night with a dj who's not listened to too much music in his life.

Me too Chalky. Stone cold oldie in my book, reactivated around the time the first New Century Soul Club nighters in Manchester. Around very late 90s. That's when most probably think it dates from.
