You would be perfectly entitled to have a go. eBay is clogged up with rubbish that it is completely intransigent about. Consequently next to nothing sells and serious collectors waste time looking. However, there are ways around this so ultimately eBay will choke off this revenue stream and punters will thrive elsewhere. eBay has become a global jumble sale and whilst there are still bargains to be found and more than a few rarities, the organisation is best used to buy unwanted Chritmas presents, household goods and other collectables.

It's probably true to say that most of the serious record dealers have moved to discogs or have their own websites, or other means of selling. Furthermore, there are just too many records that don't warrant being auction items. As a seller listing on eBay is a pain in the arse and then they gouge you every time something sells. Don't get me wrong, eBay is great for buying stuff but as stated earlier it is a jumble sale.

Good.  I hope they took their overhyped prices with them too.

There wouldnt be all these pretend records cluttering up the world if there weren't plenty of pretend collectors buying them. It's like blaming drug dealers for drug addicts

Last time I bothered looking at the sellers boxes at a soul night 75% were re-issues , legit or not, 20% average oldies and the rest over priced originals. Next time I go out could the promoters make sure there is only mint originals at 1978 prices.

At least on ebay I can filter stuff out. Auction Only gets rid of most of the boots and then I search for labels or artists I want. Finding any thing I want at a good price I take a look and also check sellers other items. This is fairly quick and avoids the masses of boots. Also it's a lot easier than driving round the country , scouring lists and haggling at all-nighters which was the way to get good records 40 years ago.

Most of the criticism of ebay record selling applies to almost every other sort of collectible. I look for old woodworking tools and books but there is loads of the same common things that never sell . Occasionally rare tools come up which go for good money. For the very  wealthy collector there is  a firm of auctioneers that always gets the ultra-rare items, in best condition, markets them across the world and gets eye- watering prices (some planes fetch 10 to 15 thousand). Now who does that remind me of.

Shit Dave, it's like yeah man, you really have to look for the good stuff. not like back in the day when all you had to do was shift through a hundred boxes at a nighter or summat. It's really hard all this sitting and clicking :)

exactly. or go to some weird blokes garden miles from home and sift through boxes smelling of rat / cat pi++ or a shop in the wrong part of town thats clearly a crack den.

terrible today, beer in hand, some nibbles. bring back the rats pi++ please.
