Popular Post Sean Hampsey Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 Just wanted to give a quick heads up on another essential and superb compilation from the Sounds of Memphis archive, out next week on Kent. Compiled by Dean Rudland its a stunning collection of real Soul music; all tempos for all tastes! I've put together a short clip of just a few of the highlights! It's pretty incredible stuff to my ears. See what you think! Cheers, Sean 9

Dean Rudland Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I'd just like to thank Sean for doing such a fantastic job in talking this up. I'm really pleased with the music that we have on this volume. However I got so caught up in the process of putting it together that I forgot to do any promotion. Fortunately Ady sent Sean a copy and he's done a far better job than I would have anyway! A couple of things worth noting 1/ the unknown vocalist sounds familiar, but I couldn't match it with anyone. Love to know if anyone recognises him. 2/ I failed to notice that the Jacksonians is a cover of the Marvin and Tammy classic. 1
Peter99 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Very nice indeed. I'll be buying one for sure. Peter 1
Chalky Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 The first volume was very good so looking forward to this one. 1
TheBigO Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 OOOOOH that's going to be heading its way to TheBigO manor asap! Top work fella 1

Cheers John
Ady Croasdell Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Yep the Billy Cee is a different version of the same song, sounds slightly earlier to me. The Tommy Raye is indeed issued on XL and there's a scan of it in the booklet. 20 of the 24 tracks were previously unissued, four are merely obscure. Fab CD. 1
Dean Rudland Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Billy Cee is a different version The GSF version was recorded at Malaco, this was recorded at Sounds of Memphis at the same time as their XL 45. 1

timthemod Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 For my money one of the best things to come out of this label is the unissued Willie Bollinger track, 'Shake Shake Shake', it's hidden away on the Ace Memphis 60 compilation, great mod sound. I have it on Carver, but is seems it would have been better on one of the Mod Jazz or similar comps. Can be still purchased here:https://www.amazon.co.uk/Memphis-60-Various-Artists/dp/B002610HRW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1403880949&sr=8-1&keywords=memphis+60 It's not on YT, but you can listen to part of it via the following link:https://www.amazon.it/Shake/dp/B00EHIHW4I
Tsu Tomatoes Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Already ordered and eagerly waiting to play it on the radio show 1
