Spacehopper Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) I got some very sad news today from my tearful other half that a good friend of the last few years Mike Stirling has lost his battle with cancer. Mike turned up at gogo children a few years back as he was working in the southwest I believe he was originally from the south east but had came across us on line..over the next few years he hardly missed a night and in all that time id never seen him down or heard him say a bad word about anyone.A real gentleman who was well liked by everyone he met If he wasn't dancing you can bet he was taklin soul, especially detroit there didn't seem to be much he didn't already know,he ran a website called soulsides which had an amazing amount of info as did all the cds he did for people. Sometime last year Mike collapsed at gogo for no apparent reason,he was takin to hospital by a couple of regulars and the AnE couldn't find anything wrong but later tests by his doctor confirmed ha had bowel cancer. After an op we saw him back at gogo a few months ago and he was upbeat about his treatment and recovery, still with a smile on his face and with a new cd for his friends..he was really touched by the concern his soul family had shown him. I cant believe the last time he shook my hand and gave me a hug that I wouldn't see him again RIP Mike..you will be greatly missed :-( dean Edited June 12, 2014 by spacehopper 1
Greety Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Its always so sad when a Soul lover leaves us. He sounded like a top guy. God Bless you Mike.
Markw Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Mike was indeed a top guy - one of the nicest, most genuine non-BS people you could wish to meet. He had a wealth of knowledge, especially on Detroit stuff which was his passion. I understand that he had a Detroit collection to die for until he sold up some 30 years ago. He was (and he will take this as a compliment!) an anorak's anorak!! Will miss his company at GoGo Children.
manus Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Always very sad to hear of a fellow Soul fan passing - RIP Manus
