I've just had a count and there are 54 podcasts so far covering the Stafford Story.  I reckon there would be around 75 hours worth of listening for you.

Thanks Chalky.

These have been brilliant. It's great to have a reminder of how diverse the music at Stafford was. it's much appreciated.

Thanks for all your hard work compiling these podcasts, without doubt in the opinion of myself and the many people who attended the Stafford allnighters was one of the scene`s best periods glad I went there.

As above Chalky, likewise, only managed to catch the last two nighters ,too busy involved in the casual fashion / football b*llocks going on at the time and the Central England Soul Club at Loughborough , a long way to travel by train at the time from a wee small town in Scotland. when your mum thinks you're only sleeping over at your mates two streets away !!

Many thanks for all your dedicated hardwork in preserving the sounds in this truly iconic chapter in the scenes history

Thanks for posting all these podcasts Chalky, much appreciated. Wasn't on the soul scene at that time, been off it for a while then, so never went to Stafford, one of my big regrets. Such a wide variety of styles played. These are a musical education for me. Surely DJs could dig some of these up to play to vary their playlists. Or are they all so rare and expensive?

Wow, thanks for the comments, they are greatly appreciated and it is good to see these enjoyed by so many

IMO. there are plenty of great records out there that are very much still largely unknown to many due to the mentality of Dj's these days, not just the Stafford era but others as well.  Hopefully they will have their day again, many ripe for reactivation, many can be bought cheap or at a reasonable price as well.

I only went to Stafford a couple of times so a lot of these tunes are new to me even though a friend used to lend me tapes from time to time (Hartley from Llandudno if anyone remebers him). Some great stuff on these podcasts (the odd one or two that aren't, but that happened everywhere). I was going to say keep 'em coming, but there can't be that much more left can there?

I have podcasts to do for Chris Plant, jimmy Wensiora, Keith Minshull, I have odds and sods left over from some of the other dj's that will make another.  More from Richard hopefully.  I have a list of records that I can't attribute to a DJ yet, probably upstairs spins or tape swap stuff from back then....oh and Butch.

We reckon there is at least another 25% of Guys stuff that is forgotten right now, other stuff that is forgotten for the other DJ's as well.  There is stuff I can't find out what they are nor can the dj's remember plus rarities I can't find sound files for.

You're bang on about Jim not getting recognition. If you lived our neck of the woods you had this fella breaking tunes like this on our doorstep. Quality of that playlist up is there with any from any era. Thanks again mate.

I had left the scene before then but thanks for the photos in the rouges gallery,on coming back to the scene one of more than a few who I was upset to hear was no longer here ri.p bless them, was Mac from Belper seen in the photo with Gilly,  a great lad and one of the folk I wish were there to  meet up with again after many years away. When expanded shows a good picture of Mac.

Missed Stafford, but love the stuff that came to light there, was in Japan, USA, Australia and New Zealand, so I can't complain really, and bought some vinyl wherever I was.  Thanks Chalky, I can put names to tunes that I've more recently come to love.

Like you say Mark having also been away for years listening to many of those sounds from that era stafford onwards and the life line stuff is a real treat as I hear much of it for the first time and continue now to be bowled over when I come across stuff that hits that soul spot.Like Chaly states many choons from that era  can now be bought for a reasonable, cheap price, thats good news for me!

can't comment on that as I'm way to young to be a Torch goer  :)  Surprised if it was though and left unplayed until the 80's, great Northern dancer.

Been a while since I did a podcast for the Stafford Story so here we present one featuring the plays of Keith Minshull.

Keith Minshull, a somewhat unsung hero of the scene who rarely gets the recognition he deserves. Keith was running all-nighters at the Top Of The World prior to it becoming the Stafford we know. He teamed up with Dave Thorley and began promoting all-nighters under the Top Dog Soul Club banner in early 1982, the rest is history. As with this set, not all are discoveries or first played by Keith. There are some Casino biggies, particularly for Richard Searling, some Stafford “oldies”, Dave Withers with the unissued Motown for instance and the odd spin or two for Gary Rushbrooke, all along side some plays made popular by Keith. One thing is for sure Keith’s last hour spots were enjoyed many many and he he certainly knew how to work a floor.

Holman’s Hero’s — Eddie’s My Name (Inst) - Unissued

Barbara Lewis — I Still Remember The Feeling — Atlantic

Originals — Suspicion — Unissued Motown

Marvelettes — The Boy From Crosstown — Unissued Motown

(Lillian Dupree - The Boy That I Love)

Marvelettes — Sugar’s Never Been As Sweet — Unissued Motown

(Patti Gilson & Tonettes — Sugar’s Never Been As Sweet)

Elbie Parker — Please Keep Away From Me — Veep

Admirations — You Left Me — Peaches

Danny Owens — I Can’t Be Your Fool Anymore — Manhatten

(Bell Boys — Can’t Be A Fool)

Paris — Sleepless Nights — Doc

Kenny Wells — Isn’t It Just A Shame — New Voice

Greg Perry — It Takes Heart — Alpa

Cody Marshall — The Thought Of Losing You — Sound Judgement

(Pierré Hunt)

NuRons — All Of My Life — NuRon

(Lamarr Thomas & The Chains That Bind — All Of My Life Waiting For You)

Jan Jones — Independent Woman — Daywood

Prince Philip Mitchell — I’m So Happy — Atlantic

Jimmy McFarland — Lonely Lover — RPR

Larry Laster — Go For Yourself — Loma

Kenny Carlton — Lost And Found — Blue Rock

Howard Guyton — I Watched You Slowly Slip Away — Verve

Yvonne Vernee — Just Like You Did Me — Sonbert

Executive Four — We Got A Good Thing Going — Lu-Mar

Johnny Honeycutt — I’m Coming Over — Triode

Magnetics — Lady in Green — Bonnie

Seven Souls — I Still Love You — Okeh

Sam Fletcher — I’d Think It Over — Tollie

Deon Jackson — I Still Remember The Feeling — Deon Jackson LP track previously unissued Carla Recording.

Fabulous Moonlighters — For Granted — Blue Eagle

Twilights — You’re The One — Aqua

Magnetics — When I’m With My Baby — Sable

Martha Starr — No Part Time Love For Me — Thelma

Ty Karim — You Really Made It Good To Me — Senator

Soundmasters — Lonely, Lonely — Juliet

We start the New Year off with a bang and with some of the biggest records the scene has ever seen.  Sharleen Spiteri would have loved this set this afternoon.  All the records are what Chris Plant was playing out and about during the early 80's.  largely made up from a top 30 of spins of his between 1982 and 1984 plus other memories of his for others.  Not all Chris's records, far from it but none the less most DJ's then and now would love a set like this.

Anybody remember an excellent record played around 1985 called "Security and Satisfaction"? I can't make out the artists name!

I taped it at a venue 1/1/85. Could have been Dave Thorley who played it!

And another record that sounds like it's called "Hearsay, What I Say".

Another is played after the Classics "So Glad I Found You" and is called "Can't you See That I Love You" or Baby Come Over I'd Like to Be With You"

(Probably turns out everyone knows them but me!!)

At a guess the Ringleaders - Win You Over

Have you still got the tape?

Hearsay, What I Say, is it modern soul?  If so probably Electric Express - Hearsay.

The other could be as Andy says Ringleaders Win You Over, flip to the All My Life acetate.
