JOE TORQUAY Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Tridels And The Mighty Groove Makers What Can I Do C/w Thins Thing Called Love Peanut Country as Sweet as you like it.. If we’re gonna list a used 45 is has got to be exceedingly rare! When the world’s top collectors and “Soul Harmony Singles” book contributors Jeff Beckman - Jim Hunt - Tom Kline omit it from their research, that for me is the highest possible validity of rarity. This may be the only opportunity in my lifetime to list this 45 for Sweet Soul fans to immerse themselves in. Hailing from Portsmouth/Norfolk, Virginia this gathering craft a totally noncommercial SWEET experience, with no attempt to be a Stylistics or Delfonics clone, they opt for a completely unique style of blending falsetto into a haunting arrangement driven by a simplistic use of instruments allowing the vocals swirl aloft gliding skywards as the voices chill… on the raft of the Mighty-Groove-Makers rhythm. You are viewing a Sweet Soul Grail and a Raresoulman Auction debutant. The vinyl has surface marks but the Great Sphinx of Giza also has a few scratches on his nose… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 479.00 Homer Banks A Lot Of Love C/w Fighting To Win Cast your eyes… and pin back your eyes.. Stax office & promotions girl Deanie Parker joins Memphis’s lyrical genius Homer Banks to pen one of Bluff City’s most memorable offerings, which over the decades has been copied but never bettered by many any other artist. Here is the original version one of 3 Homer Banks UK Liberty releases that shook Britain’s All NIght Clubs becoming part of the very fabric of the fledgling Northern Soul Scene. “60 Minutes Of Your Love” “Hooked By Love” and “A Lot Of Love” are to this day much-loved “Twisted Wheel” revival spins usually spun from their USA Minit releases. Before you today is the best of the three, in by far it’s most coveted form. An immaculate DEMO inside it’s birth-sleeve - is a thing of beauty. Drop a stylus onto it - it is a thing of ferocious-power with lyrics that have enticed many imitators to have a go.. and NONE have matched the indomitable Homer in full flight.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 125.00 Lillie Bryant Meet Me Halfway BLINDING!!! Some Northern Soul records most collectors are resolved to the fact they are very unlikely to get an opportunity of ownership…Those records are the truly-rare timeless Northern Soul classics where only a handful of copies are known to exist. Before you today is one of those aloof “Greats”.. a record which once it becomes your property, it is destined to feature in your will. NOBODY sells records of this quality - that’s why we feel it may be some time before another example comes to market. If you’re serious about Northern Soul - do not pass by. You are viewing one of Northern Soul Godzilla’s in fine clean condition - eye-popping STOCK copy with just a couple of very light turntable retrieval brushes. When will you see another..in this irresistible condition…? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,001.00 Baby Washington Get A Hold Of Yourself C/w Hurt So Bad UK ONLY and it’s a Northern Soul Masterpiece! New Yorker “Baby” briefly flirted with United Artists highly regarded subsidiary VEEP RECORDS, in 1968 crafted one of the greatest 60s female Soul albums ever released. Amazing in the USA not one track off the album got released as a single, how crazy it that? Thank Heaven’s someone at British U.A. listened to the album and set free these two standout tracks.. with “Get A Hold Of Yourself” being a thumpin’ hunk of brass propelled Northern Soul, pushed through and beyond the sound-barrier by a bevvy of wailing girls - nothing but nothing sounds remotely like this floor-fracturing stomper - magnificently-matchless Northern Soul. Flip it over and witness Little Anthony’s Anthem deconstructed, rebuilt into a colossal confirmation of the Big City Sound! Henry Glover was the catalyst for this pair of almighty tunes…which frankly have left me, not for the first time…breathless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 136.00 Various Artists Doctor Soul You are viewing one of the seriously rare testaments to USA Soul ever released in Britain. Compiled with unbridled enthusiasm by two of the mid-60s most-important and influential Soul DJ’s; residents at the Legendary “SCENE” Club in Soho, London. Compiling this 14 track testament to how far and wide these pioneering Jocks cast their net to keep the MOD arena fresh. James “Doctor Soul” Hamilton & Guy Stevens impressive track choices underline just how hip these guys were - hardly any of the tracks ever making 7” release in the UK. It is pleasing to handle historical artifacts that open a window in time and make you realize Northern Soul was well established in Britain long before The Torch or Wigan Casino etc. As James “Doctor” Soul reaffirmed with his quote “In 1966 I played nothing but Northern Soul” and of coarse the R&B Scene magazine quoted the term “Northern Soul” way back in 1964. Just check out those astonishing choice of tracks. The Volumes, Wade Donald, Chuck Flamingo, Gene Allison etc. etc. could it have got any more innovative than this .. Bow to the guys who underpinned the Northern Soul foundation whilst most of us were still were “Smoking In the Bike Sheds at school” Staggeringly RARE and historically essential… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 150.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Little Eddie Taylor I Had A Good Time C/w Forgive One Mistake Don Robey & Gilbert Caple craft a mighty, mighty Northern Soul thumper for a Texas pocket-dynamo who defies his diminutive stature; serving up a performance out-stripping the blaring horns and marrying perfectly into the shrill girl group chorus, shaping a perfect example of real-deal-Northern. Time to relaunch this former Cleethorpes Pier Monster again, paying particular attention to it’s rarity and the only repress of it was a circa 1976 blank label nonentity. If there ever was a candidate for Northern Soul revival - this in the standout candidate. Noting condition of this PROMO is utterly PRISTINE! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 783.00 Hytones Bigger And Better C/w I've Got My Baby Seamless vocal-group Northern Soul given “edge” by Robert S. Holmes horn-craft; clever use of two different brass-pitches as Sax & trumpet compete on the intro before meeting a gloriously sleek wall of male-vocals. Oh how good is this…yes as good as it’s always been - timeless! Another “100 Club” favorite that in the 80s & 90s rose to cult-status. Even though the lyrics are about a guy telling his ex-girl “It’s Too Late” for her to come groveling back - the story is delivered so sweetly, it’s almost a sonnet.. Does harmony-group Northern Soul come any “Sweeter Than This” not very often that’s fa’sure.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 464.00 Liz Verdi Think It Over (and Be Sure) There is always a reason - a song is stand out! This delicious Popcorn classic, that pleasingly infiltrated Northern Soul with it’s infectious powers…is from the pen of no stranger to Northern Soul creations “Beatrice Verdi” who 5 years later than this 1964 recording, would be writing for Motown; displaying her talent for the compelling girl sound with her contribution to Barbara McNair’s Motown gems, and in the meantime wrote “In The Middle Of Nowhere” the big Dusty hit.. This early double-goodie carries a Motownesque feel to it, a top-quality of the “Girl Sound” that was so hard to achieve. But no matter how exceptional this session was - it missed the boat completely - a sales-flop - always been rare and always will be.. But that’s exactly how we like, the fans of Popcorn & Northern Soul like their vinyl elusive and totally contagious…this ticks both boxes. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 172.00 Joe Mayfield I'm On The Move C/w How's Things With You Today’s R&B Northern Soul tempter is this elusive 1964 throbbing juggernaut from Tennessee with the added bonus of a exalted Deep Soul flipside. One of only two documented Joe Mayfield recordings which sit a bemusing 7 years apart. Mr. Shambling’s website the first stop off for Deep Soul fans describes the Deep Soul ballad side as “terminally obscure - a triumph of Deep Soul”. Check out this exquisite testament to despair out and be prepared to have a change of mood. The Northern Soul R&B side that is currently getting enviable attention from those jocks lucky enough to have a copy, starts with a rattling drums, bopping horns decorated with a Blues picking guitarist who’s timely solo’s lift this recording into the realms of greatness. Laid back and utterly viral.. play it again & again you won’t tire of it’s power to charm the dancefloor! Condition…? need we say it …is sparklingly impeccable throughout… One impressive rarity with TWO great sides! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Ad-libs New York In The Dark C/w Human Unbelievable condition for a rare record with a reputation for never quite being in acceptable condition - this one looks “brand new” Especially listed for those OCD Northern Soul reapers of the Classics - who are seeking perfection for the true dancefloor packers of the 70s. The other “sell” point of this offering has got to be it has been undeservedly neglected in recent decades from the Oldies Sets - I’m betting the first DJ to spin this at the bigger events of Prestatyn, Blackpool Tower or Kings Hall will detonate an enthusiastic stampede… How refreshing would this rarity be, booming out to 2000 people - a former Cleethorpes Pier & Wigan Casino beast set the roar back on a mission to rejuvenate! Remember condition is PERFECT! Straight from being filed a Blues collection for decades…. PS I adore the flipside too.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 236.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Billy Butler Right Track A NS icon with 10 tracks of sheer-Northern-Soul-Indulgence. A pristine 1966 Mono press is blazing condition. Two flawless vinyls that reveal a life of being filed only. Two pristine labels as you can see adorned with the “Gold” text and logo. Front Covers only flaw is a minuscule corner “bump” a strong Mint - Back Cover only sign that’s it’s not come straight from the printers is 48 years of aging forming a adoring light browning to the white. Free of any tears, writing or stains. What a fabulous legacy this man left us with - drool over the track listing and slaver over the spanking condition.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 86.00 Dee Edwards (i Can) Deal With That C/w Possess Me Not to be confused with the later diluted “Morning Glory” release. This is the mouthwatering 1977 Billy Kyle guided original version, evoking lusty visions of Dee’s sultry vocal, flirting with the studio microphone; as she purrs the lyrics using her obvious feminine qualities, decorated by her girlfriends in the background; crafting a true Soulful Femme-Fatale. Ms. Edwards calls upon her vast vocal range to ease her way from low pitch seduction to a convincing sexy-squeal… delicious piece of soul does not get anywhere near to describing this provocative offering driven by a jazzy-funk seasoned arrangement. Need a Soul Aphrodisiac ..? look no further than this elusive Motor City Masterpiece . Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 186.00 Contours It's So Hard Being A Loser C/w Your Love Grows More Precious Everyday 1967 British DEMO - perfect labels - perfect vinyl - just perfection. Two homegrown “Detroiters” again collaborate, as they did on one of Motown’s biggest hits - Jimmy Ruffin’s “What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted”.. this time James Dean & William Weatherspoon chose “Loser” lyrics and unfortunately “lose” themselves, as the song misses the charts both sides of the Atlantic.. A “Miss” is ideal credentials for the Northern Soul turntables, which over the decades it has graced so many times, it is considered another NS Motown classic. So what better way to own this elusive disc than a MINT British Green & White PROMO - yes utterly flawless. Resist if you can… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 193.00 Buddy Ace True Love, Money Can't Buy C/w My Love “Pink” isn’t a colour - it’s an attitude A thing of astonishing beauty .. Gleaming absolutely flawless Pink PROMO copy - perfect! “Love At First Sight” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 99.00 Ben Aiken Satisfied S.A.T. Lord I’m Feeling Good Now! - I.S. Everything Is Alright! -F.I.E.D. Sock It To Me Baby! - Oh Yeah SATISFIED! There are records this unique Northern Soul scene has provided over the decades, that remind you of the exact day you first heard them, and the effect it had upon you. Personally I was at the Catacombs circa ‘72 doing my inadequate dance routine on the small step-up stage at the back of Temple Street’s condensation-rain-forest. I think it may have been the first time the stranger next to me had heard it too, because after about 20 seconds in he stopped dancing, clasps the top of his head with his hands, then throwing his arms aloft in delight, bringing down the water clinging to the low ceiling above, and shouting above the music… “What A Fooking TUNE!” As a youngster Northern Soul affected you like that, and those legendary water-droplets the atmosphere manufactured were only short relief from the heat, mass-adrenaline, excitement and wonderment the quality of the music was generating. Halcyon days - for those who experienced the exclusive rush of a tune.. This we’ve listed today because it is as near perfect condition as you could ever dream of owning….also gives me a chance to relive the best days of mine and so many others lives.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 101.00
Steve Plumb Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Some decent prices for the collectors this week - or is it just me who thinks that?
Steve L Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Some decent prices for the collectors this week - or is it just me who thinks that? Well theres a distinct lack of comments Steve, so maybe yes

Benji Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I find the price of Little Eddie Taylor a bit OTT. But it probably went that high due to its condition.
Tlscapital Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I find the price of Little Eddie Taylor a bit OTT. But it probably went that high due to its condition. Agreed, but so like about everything else on JM's auctions. Little Eddie is not an "in-sound" record I'd say. But would it be a second time around then... It is rare and awfully good: full of grits and edges. Maybe too much by today standards where the "blank" stuffs (souls) take over. Super clean condition 500 I'd think and not the easiest seller ?
spot Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Ben Aiken one of my fav tunes, rarely heard out & I'd have thought more than a ton.
Raresoul45s Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Agreed, but so like about everything else on JM's auctions. Little Eddie is not an "in-sound" record I'd say. Super clean condition 500 I'd think and not the easiest seller ? Correct £500 ish I'd say. John auctioned a couple of copies of this over the last year or two, one made less than £450 and the other complete with an original poster only made about £500ish as well, a great result for John or the seller. Personally I don't see it over £500 its not that rare, its the demand that pushed it so high around 10 years back when £700+ could be achieved. Cheers Darren
Guest Aaron Darcy Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Lillie Bryant went for a bit more than I thought it would same here ' i would have thought between £2000 and £2500
