Drew3 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Not had time to share this until now. Went to the lovely City of Lincoln Wednesday for a meeting. On the train journey back to Manchester I sat back with a bottle of red, a big bag of M&S Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper Crisps (a must with red wine), the sun shining, beautiful scenery and One-derful, Mar-V-Lus Northern Soul (30 Rare Dancers from 60's Chicago) CD belting though me earplugs. An absolute fecking pleasure. Anyone not familiar with the CD it's a Goldmine Soul Supply production and contains the following: Baby what has happened to our love The Ringleaders. Every beat of my heart The Du-ettes. Tired of being loney The Sharpees. I still can't get to you Joseph Moore. Spring song (New girl) The Accents. I don't know what to do Otis Clay. Don't leave me The Admirations. 'Aint gonna cry no more Josephine Taylor. Your love has got me down The Blenders. Who is she Lucky Laws. More power to you Harold Burrage. Don't fight it Willie Parker. Who are you gonna love The Accents. I'm satisfied Johnny Sayles. Don't you worry Joe & Mack. Lonely girl The Young Folk. Do the 45 The Sharpees. Wait til I get to know you The Admirations. Showplace Otis Clay. Please forgive me The Du-ettes. Don't hurt the one you love Willie Parker. Love is a good thing 'goin The Blenders. You better think again The Accents. Tell me where I stand Johnny Sayles. Would I do it over The Ultimations. Twine Time Alvin Cash & The Crawlers. Please love me Betty Everett. Behave yourself Miss Madeline. Master key Harold Burrage. Where will you be boy Beverly Shaffer. Awesome compilation!! Personal favourites: Behave yourself - Miss Madeline; Please love me - Betty Everett; The two Johhny Sayles tracks; Would I do it over - The Ultimations Where will you be - Beverly Shaffer and of course the fantastic I still can't get to you - Joseph Moore. Beats sitting in the car on a hot day anytime and managed to get a table seat and put the old feet up for most of the journey. Didn't want to go home. Any favs for you in that lot? KTF Drew.
Soulsmith Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 "Any favs for you in that lot?" Well I'd go for the bottle of red, a big bag of M&S Sea Salt and Crushed Black Pepper Crisps Lincoln is a brilliant place, trouble is you have to go through bits of Lincolnshire to get there. Have to get back to you regarding the music........

Sean Hampsey Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 FIRST SPUN THE ULTIMATIONS IS THE DARLINGTON /AYCLIFFE AREA IN 1983 ,TO ME IT IS ONE OF THE MOST COMPLETE SIXTIES SOUL RECORDS EVER ,JUST SO VERY GOOD! BAZ A. Agree. The Ultimations is the Ultimate! Also, Highly recommend Otis Clay's 'That's How It Is" (flip of Show Place) and "Tired Of Falling In And Out Of Love" from this logo (infact all O C's tracks are superb on One-derful). As an aside, There's a wicked version (LP only) by Patti Drew. As for Lincoln, I spent a lifetime there one year! Fond memories of the Drill Hall (and a girl called Kim from Birchwood ). Sean Hampsey
Guest rachel Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Behave yourself - Miss Madeline; Where will you be - Beverly Shaffer Love these two, bought the Beverly Shaffer blind a few years ago, the flip is quite good as well if I remember rightly.... (Was last in Lincoln about 20 years ago and have never been quite convinced by crisps with pepper on... the crinkly hula hoops are top of my list at the moment )
Guest Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Flip of Beverly Shaffer is 'Even The Score' and is just as superb as the main side! I posted clips up on here for both sides a while ago...will see if I can find the thread. Ultimations is also another top tune

Guest rachel Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 I like T'other side of Miss Madeline "I'm just a lonely girl in this big old world and I don't know what happiness is" Same recording as the Young Folk track that's on this CD... good tune too
Guest in town Mikey Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 The other side of the Accents too "You better think again"......'kin awsome Aint that the truth. Chalky put me on to this one, as it missed it in the early 80s when it first (To my knowledge) got played. Great double sider.
Harrogatesoul Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/marvlus.htm https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/onederful.htm https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/mpac.htm ALL Otis Clays 45s are invaluable to me - Harold Burrage / McKinley Mitchell / Cicero Blake (LOVE this guy!) - Above links to Dave's excellent discographies - A fantastic set of labels from ballads / group deep / R&B / Northern etc - If anyone doesn't have Robert Pruters excellent book on Chicago soul I highly reccommend it. I have a couple of CD's of the label inc. the aforementioned goldmine one and (I think!) a Charley comp one too. Considering the output of the label - Has there been or is there to be any unissued material (Can't remember if the Cd's had any on).Any ideas? Rich
Guest in town Mikey Posted July 22, 2006 Posted July 22, 2006 Rich I have a copy of Turn Back the Hands of time on Elka. Its not in great condition, but do you need it? I pulled it out of a bin full of records at a Bristol car boot sale, without a pigging sleeve. Mike

McKinley Mitchell - No Love b/w Town I Live In - Sleazy R&B backed with a classic! I count a ONEDERFUL / TODDLIN TOWN / PRESIDENT / MIDAS & CHIMNEYVILLE release on same song. Guest Spinning Vinyl Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 (edited) Love these labels, have most of them bar a few! I see Joseph Moore is admired by a few, but flip it and there is one class bit of down tempo soul 'Lost without You' Pat Brady had an acetate of the Josephine Taylor it's slightly different, I think Keb brought it then Chris Ashby had it not sure if hes still got it or he sold it on, but great version all the same. Cant go wrong with these labels lots of good stuff for your lobes :good: Edited July 23, 2006 by Spinning Vinyl
