I think you’re going to like this one.  Here we have the original cover up artists and titles from some of the biggest sounds played at Wigan casino.  The earliest goes back to around 1975 when much fewer records had their identities kept secret, up until the end of the Casino in 1981 where nearly all new discoveries were kept secret (for a time).  See how many of these you remember, and if there’s any you can’t identify, leave a comment and I will reply to it.  Big thanks to Tim Everett for the concept and title.  I mixed it and “accidentally” left out most of the Modern tunes…

ROY HANDY — LIVE, LIVE, LIVE WHILE I CAN

That was a Mecca cover up title, from 74.

I took Freddie Williams to Russ's shop in Wigan, for Russ and Richard to listen to because at the time they didn't know it.

Hey Steve, heard you play some great sets.  Would'nt let  some of those tunes anywhere near me,    I get home with a little. Crowd and go ' wait till you hear this f ..ker.  and then either play it and  take it off and fall over or kneel on it with a little snap- crack.  And then exclaim ' who broke my ernestine  on Phil  a soul.  My regular trick these days!   Will take this onto another feature. Cheers

Funny thing,  carol & gerri.  In later years the other side became a big tune early 9ts and people tried to play it under cover and Everyman and his pet iguana knew it.  Cover ups were exciting though,   But  the best is when you play a tune and someone walks up and goes ' I've got this etc etc'  and it's  blah blah!!!!   Ok mate now ' f..k off

Before I sign off,  it's  a shame I never hear andy rix or Steve mith playing out their tunes these days,    Opened my ears to some quality  tunes.  Cheers

DEE DEE GARTRELL — OVER AND OVER AGAIN - JW McGee

That should be Ernestine Eady - Phila of Soul - Let's Talk It Over

Indeed it should - Even as I typed JW McGee, something felt wrong. In fact JWM didn't get built until 1982 - have amended my post.
