Always stuck in my mind for some reason.... Billy Watkins - Iceman. Full of innuendo. e.g. at 36 seconds "They love the way I move about, I don't make a mess I get in and out"!!!!

(p.s. sorry if this is too early in the thread to be at this base level. Please delete if see fit!)

edited just so you get the start at 36 secs

Very similar to yours Mike. Bobby Womack's Home is Where the Heart Is - the lyric, done in Bobby's imitable drawl "You can take the boy out of the country but you sure cant take the country out of the boy".

Cue mid tempo backing - drenched in soul....

"Bobby wants to be the heavyweight champ
But his dreams got to go a lot further............ (you know it's coming) than 'Under the Streetlamp'"

Wow! reyt evocative... as a no mark from Mansfield I can dig that! (just about my favourite record btw)

Always said to my wife COME-ON for many reasons, to hurry her up, to persuade her to go somewhere or to encourage her to do something out of the ordinary like the ride on top of the Stratosphere. Always worked and when I heard The Young Brothers at 1:44 say Just Put Your Hand In MIne And Come-on I knew I had found our tune

Plenty of lyrics  but I always like records that have "Beat my time"  or variations of....a very (Black?) US term.....and found on a number of great tracks

Sherlock Holmes - Standing At A Standstill - Part III

I must be underwater 'cause my eyes are such a blur

BTW intro reminds me of a Charlie Brown cartoon intro weirdly

on the same theme, The Parliments - Heart Trouble

and he (the plumber) took a look and much to my surprise, he said my son its not your sink its the teardrops from your eyes

The PFunk man strikes again

'Whey, Hey !' I know it means nothing on it's own but it resumes so well with faith, humility and hope both lyrics of Bobby Hutton's 'lend a hand' at the beginning of the song and of Spyder Turner's 'I can't make it anymore' at the end of the song. It's stuck in my head for decades now. It still suits me and I'm doing fine  (still sane).  So 'Whey, Hey !'
