Donkit Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Is it that rare ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-ELGINS-Put-Yourself-In-My-Place-Original-UK-7-Single-Motown-Soul/121338566759?_trksid=p3693.c100102.m2452&_trkparms=aid%3D333008%26algo%3DRIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140212121249%26meid%3D6945162571650754120%26pid%3D100102%26prg%3D20140212121249%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D151289891750
Chris L Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) Hardly call it rare in the NS sense, it's the original release, worth about £80 - 100 depending on condition. The white demo is rare they go for anything from £200 - 300 maybe more. I see this one is at £140.00 already, just confirms something's worth what someone will pay Edited May 16, 2014 by Chris L 1
Dave Pinch Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 paid a fiver for it i think.....agree with chris on the price..but if 2 get into a fight for it who knows 1
Quinvy Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Why would you pay all that for a reissue, you can get the real thing for £20. 1
Tobytyke Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Why would you pay all that for a reissue, you can get the real thing for £20. because you cant beat british.. 1
Sheldonsoul Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Yeh I would say it is, proberbly the one of the rarest of the 500 series ,issue and demo and very scarce and when they do come up the go for decent money

SteveM Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Isn't the real thing the VIP demo credited to the Downbeats?
Steve Edgar Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Isn't the real thing the VIP demo credited to the Downbeats? also on issue, and as it got pulled, I'd have thought issue rarer? Steve
Mal C Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 No doubt your aware Maxine Brown and Azie Mortimer both did versions, prefer Maxine personally, far more earthy soulful reading of the song... mal
Steve Edgar Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 No doubt your aware Maxine Brown and Azie Mortimer both did versions, prefer Maxine personally, far more earthy soulful reading of the song... mal Totally different record mate, but an outstanding one as well down to Tony Bruno's arrangement. Steve
Mal C Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 is it really? I'll have to listen again, so the only similarity is the line 'Put Yourself in My Place"..
Steve Edgar Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Downbeats/Elgins/Isley Bros "Put Yourself In My Place" a Holland, Dozier, Holland tune. Maxine Brown "Put Yourself In My Place" a Obrecht, Drain tune. Steve 1
SteveM Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 also on issue, and as it got pulled, I'd have thought issue rarer? Steve Aah I'd forgotten about that Steve. The demo I have has a piece of paper stuck over Downbeats on one side typed with Elgins on it. Not on the other side but that has a sticker mark over Downbeats! Hope Tina and yourself are both well. Anyone have a scan of the issue?
45cellar Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 EAST COAST : "Arp" DEMO Credited to The Elgins EAST COAST : "Arp" Stock Copy Credited to THE DOWNBEATS PopSike.com However, It is the MIDWEST Copies that carry THE DOWNBEATS as a DEMO Format MIDWEST : Here it is with "THE ELGINS" Sticker over THE DOWNBEATS Printed Label Credit WEST COAST : Monarch This is a DEMO on the Early V.I.P. Design yet it is credited to ELGINS not DOWNBEATS The West Coast Monarchs tended to keep the Early Design for a longer period across the Motown Catalogue. I would love to see a West Coast Stock Copy with the early design if one does exist. As already mentioned, the name change happened quite late in the printing / pressing stage. Who I ask would therefore be credited on the 1st Batch West Coast Stock Copy. Here is a West Coast copy with the Later Design and ELGINS Credit Could this be the only West Coast Stock Copy 1

Guest enchantedrythm Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 unbelievably this is one of the most requested wants by brit collectors at the venues across the country that Rob Smith and i attend, only on the U.K first issue though. I dont understand, as Rob doesn't either, but then we have two promo's and an issue between us. Its hardly going to get any plays is it? and is one of those tracks i remember dancing slow to all those years ago at main stream nightclubs, you know two knee bends right leg followed by the same left knee and so on.......................but the interest seems to be addictive as it is also spoken of by some of the top collectors and D.J's on the scene today.....Strange
