I noticed last night that some shitehawk has apparently put the film online for downloading/streaming though. It seems that nothing is sacred anymore. I just hope they get caught.

A fella at work stopped me today and said he downloaded a film called Northern Soul last night. I told him the Soul Police will come and confiscate his vests and flares. But judging by the puzzled look he didn't get the joke.

So it seems the pirates have had a go. I really hope Elaine doesnt suffer too much from this

The Apprentice is one of the most popular shows on UK TV - even the bad ones, so I'll take a bad episode of the Apprentice anyday Mike!

How the **** do they get hold of copy?

I think it may be a false alarm. I don't think anyone has a copy. Apparently a lot of these guys put up films before they're available. If any detectives out there see anything that suggests that there may be an illegal download available please PM me and I'll unleash the wrath of the gods upon 'em!

Well, since the Guardian's launch of the trailer for the film this morning, things have exploded off the scale for a so-called 'specialist' release. It looks like we're finally getting the kind of mainstream respect that we deserve:-

Right now, we're in a pretty good place. Doesn't get much better in my experience. The public have finally made the correct choice!

Just got my copy of the double CD from Amazon in today's post. Straight to Mel Britt to get going and now listening through to the rest of CD2.

Package is good, 28 page booklet with a nice balance of text and stills. Must admit that I'm a sucker for the Kent style of interspersed record scans and artist photos, coupled with posters etc, but this package works well in this style with the focus being the film.

Looking forward to watching the bonus DVD and reading the booklet.

Glad you caught that. It actually made a change to not do scans on this one!

Well I'm one happy bunny today. I've just achieved the highest mid-week chart entry of my 40 year career with the phenomenal "Northern Soul: The Soundtrack".

Yes folks, we've smashed into the UK Top 40 Compilation first midweek chart @ an incredible No.6!

In fact, due to an anomaly, we're in the Top 40 twice with the same album 'cos the digital version is No.40 too. The cumulative position actually makes us No.4 overall. We're surrounded by NOW albums lol.

NEW ENTRY     6          NORTHERN SOUL - THE FILM VARIOUS ARTISTS HARMLESS

An amazing start to an amazing film! The only thing I can say, is just go buy it! Soundtrack album of the year without a shadow of a doubt!

The whole thing is an extraordinary achievement Ian, I'm not sure I can remember anything comparable, certainly in recent years. (I can take No credit as I am waiting for the vinyl box set!)

I'm trying to check the stats but as far as I can remember I don't think a Northern Soul album has charted at anywhere near this level on the first mid-week chart. Naturally there's a huge amount of pre-orders in that figure so it'll settle down over the next few days but I think we'll be in line for the highest-charting Northern Soul album ever with a bit of luck! Couldn't happen to a better project and sets things up beautifully for the film, which, as of today, is up to 53 screens I believe.....

Well, an extraordinary week. As of today's mid-week chart, we're still mixing it with the big boys in the UK Compilation Top 10:-

NEW 7   NORTHERN SOUL ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK HARMLESS

We've just done some background checking and if we hold in the Top by next Monday, this will be the highest-charting none TV advertised Northern Soul CD ever!

Ian to save me trawling through, when's the vinyl boxset out again?

Very surprised to see that someone uploaded the entire 2nd disc of the soundtrack to YouTube a month ago. That said, is it taken from the actual disc or have they put together their own comp of the tracks on the soundtrack?

Yeah, I saw that but typically didn't have time to listen. So not sure is the answer. We sent out double CD promos a couple of months back so maybe a journo got creative and uploaded it?

I can live with You Tube promos, it's the illegal downloads I have the problem with. Mind you, strangely enough, this is also a huge digital seller too and in the I-tunes charts too. Looks like we're reaching a wide demographic market with this release. Mucho interest overseas too.

Good spot Russell.

The thing with YouTube is, of course, that it's dead easy to download anything posted on it. So in many respects it encourages 'illegal' downloading. And of the +3,000 who have listened to the cd on YouTube so far, you can be sure a good many downloaded it while doing so.

Perhaps having it blocked would be in order (and I never thought I'd hear myself say that in respect of YouTube!).

Would just like to add that the film is being shown in Dumfries, in association with the Dumfries Soul Club and in conjunction with the Doonhamer All-Dayer to be held in the town on December 6th. It will be shown prior to the all-dayer. Tickets for the showing are NOT available as yet, but details of how to obtain tickets will appear here as soon as prices and showing times are confirmed.

Yep. It's the thin line between between legitimate promotion and the Wild West. I can live with it on this release 'cos this is confounding all expectations and turning into the fastest-selling release that I've ever been involved with. It's the real niche releases that will only do limited numbers that worry me. There's a little bit more latitude with a Top 10 UK album which is selling at this rate. We'll take support from everywhere right now. The job of the soundtrack release is to boost the film and we're kinda getting there touch wood...

Funny thing happened last night,I met one of the young stars of the new "Northern Soul " film, she was going to interview me,first thing she asked was "will I go and see the film",being honest I said no I doubt it,she lost interest and buggered off ,oh well lol

I posted that on FB Sunday ,perhaps I should have told fibs lol

Of course, you're right, Ian. If the OST is doing so well presently then the impact of disc 2 being on YouTube is negligible, maybe even beneficial.

Here's wishing the film and the supporting soundtrack the best of success!

Thanks Russell. Essentially the soundtrack is the advance guard for the film. We figured we were always gonna have a battle to get the film into public consciousness with no major marketing budgets so the soundtrack album coming 4 weeks before the film launches and hitting the Top 10 UK Compilation Chart, positions the film beautifully and is probably worth more than a £200K TV ad spend in my opinion. The general public will either get or they won't. Right now it looks like they're getting it big time.

I was thinking earlier tonight, that the battles we're going through to get the film into as many cinemas as possible in the 3 day window before the DVD release, echoes the self-same problems that the Northern Soul records we all loved faced back then. So the uphill battles we're fighting everyday are completely appropriate for Northern Soul in general.

But hey. These artists are now finding themselves in the UK National Top 10 Compilation Chart plus a killer film to follow. Whichever way you look at it, it's a pretty good validation of an incredible scene which many people admire.

looking forward to it after all the great reviews. I enjoyed the last one too. they had it showing at a local eclectic outdoor cinema and had a small band/orchestra playing tainted love as an intro and guys in baggies carrying record boxes and nighter bags. good luck with the soundtrack and hope there are plenty to get so it puts it out there. well done to everyone involved.....................................

Well, we made it! Yes folks, 'Northern Soul: The Soundtrack' has entered the national UK compilation album chart @ a magnificent No.10! Congratulations to Elaine Constantine and everyone involved with the forthcoming film.

This is a massive achievement considering that it's almost impossible to get into this chart without a huge TV advertising budget or without a firm commitment and campaign from the big supermarkets. But hey, a Top 10 album is a Top 10 album. We're off and running now! Roll on the film launch from 17/10/14! Thanks to everyone for supporting the soundtrack and film!

There are no pirate copies of the film, don't know where that rumour came from.  If there were, they would have to have come from a screener (press copy) so it would have been someone who was given a copy of the film to review.

If only. BBC wages unfortunately which are pegged at 'medium market level' except for the rarified few at the top. Just like everyone else then....

Hope the release goes well tomorrow; I won't get to see it in the cinema til next Sunday in Oxford. Obviously therefore I can't comment on the quality or overall film, but surely there can't be any question that it's a fantastic achievement to have got here and big kudos to Elaine and all concerned.

Copy that. A major achievement by any measure. She has my unconditional support forever after this. Thank F**K we were lucky enough to have a serious talent like Elaine to corral this project to conclusion.

This film is an incredible achievement and I'm seriously humbled to be involved. The fact that the soundtrack album has hit the UK National Top 10 Compilation Chart TWICE in the last 4 weeks without any TV marketing confirms the national appeal of this music. The Salvadors in the UK National Top 10 TWICE in 2014?

Nah. You couldn't make it up.......
