Tlscapital Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Referring to John Manship running auction with the Gifted Four 'are you choosing' on Hamito-Semitica where it's described as the first release, I still wonder. I did read and hear a few times the HSR is first but could never take it for cash. I do know that sometimes things happens without any logic and factual leads have to be put aside because it all happened tricky through trick minds. But this time, unless someone involved in this record/project can say otherwise, I'd rather believe that the Hamito-Semitica is second. First, I did not find anything else on that Hamito-Semitica label to established it was following something like an HSR 103... Secondly F. Degrate who appears on both CSC 103 & 104 is the one name disapearing on the Hamito-Semitica releases that use the CSC numbering system 104. That could suggest an argument between associates that lead to a split and a re-release on a "new label" that is still distributed by CSC records. Finally the fact that Hamito-Semitica re-re-realse it on a 12" in 1990 would rather suggest a revive from it's last form. I know it was talked about on here before; But it was just mentioned there not "argued" I'd say. Anyone out there with arguments to dish out for or against any theory ? Mal C Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I always thought the CSC release was first, Hamito-Semitica second, and the 12" after that. All the disc's Ive ever seen have generally been sold under that order of release if you like... Malcolm
Mal C Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I sold one last year, dont remember the exact price, but 30/40 quid I think...
jocko Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I sold one last year, dont remember the exact price, but 30/40 quid I think... Thats what I thought, but amazingly doesn't seem to be any copies floating around the interweb on a simple search. Another 12 I always meant to pick up but never got round to.
jocko Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 they turn up, give it a couple weeks.. I suspect thats ebay, I just don't use that now. And bizarrely the 12" isnt even listed on Discogs. Not good enough for the Boogie boys obviously.
Glynthornhill Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Be interesting to see the final price on J M auction - then watch loads of copies come out of the woodwork - never found many and always been a keeper - However not heard this 45 played out anywhere in last decade.
jocko Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Shit didn't realise it was on auction. Cmon someone must have the 12" just taking up space, its a repress and noone likes 12" now, I suspect if I don't get it now I will have to wait for the post auction boom to go bust! Agree with Glyn great record and I haven't heard it out all since 80's I would say! Edited May 9, 2014 by jocko

All the disc's Ive ever seen have generally been sold under that order of release if you like... Malcolm I make you right on that. A. Fenn used to play it back then on CSC,the Hamito -Semitica turned up late 80s early 90s. Flip is nice too. Chris. Edited May 9, 2014 by NCFC
Cunnie Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Let both of the 7" copy's go & kept the 12" simply because it had the best sound quality & got good offers on the original CSC & the 2nd press Hamito - Semitica copy. The clue to the original I believe is on both of the supposed represses where it clearly states a CSC recording. All got the same number as well 104. As for rarity I have seen far more black copy's than CSC copy's but the one I have seen the least of is the 12" (just my observation). Guess now Manships auctioning the black copy that could all be turned upside down though
Mal C Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I see these all the time, especially CSC copies, been loads through evil bay, Its not a rare record.... but then some sounds you never see, then you get a copy, and then they are like buses... weird init record collecting... 1

Arthur Fenn Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Back in arround 1990 I had 100 of the Hamito copy & could have had many more, recall Richard's copy that came from soul bowl that he played as the natural four was the csc copy
Arthur Fenn Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Oh & that would have been 1980 ( first play ) 8-)
Hammersoul Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 James,i have the 12" for sale ,pm me if you want me to give it to one of the Scottish Lads going Morecambe to save on postage.I sell it for what i paid. I bought the 12" first thinking it was a new record that sounded 70`s lol. Teach me not to do my homework . Got the Orange first press 7" a while back via Mike Vague. I know it`s 1 st press cos he bought it off a record excutive/producer . There was a ton of rare records in with it which some i missed out on.Some i`m rarely seen since.
Mal C Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 there you go, Orange one is the first one... I think one of the big dealers might have that wrong...
Ernie Andrews Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) as for it being played out - we hammered it in Aberdeen in the 2000s CSC was always regarded as the first issue Edited May 11, 2014 by Ernie Andrews 1
