Guest Motown Junkies Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Hi, Some of you might know me from writing the Motown Junkies website; you may also know I have a 100% classic Motown radio show, called "Discovering Motown". If you don't, then here's the deal - I play nothing but Motown, from million-selling 45s to B-sides to obscure album cuts to unreleased demos. Think of each episode as a hand-picked Motown mixtape (albeit with me yammering away between songs). Every past episode is available via Mixcloud, and there's a thread over in what's now the Radio forum posting each episode with a track list: But the guidelines say that podcasts should go in AATS instead, and I think that's what these are, so (assuming I've understood the rules) I'll post each new episode in this thread instead... KTF and enjoy! Steve Edited May 6, 2014 by Motown Junkies
Guest Motown Junkies Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) So, to start us off, here's the latest hour, episode 17... We had a major technical problem at the start (just for a change!) which means nobody could hear my voice - which might be a bonus, I don't know... Rick Smith Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 I wish you'd move North to a Yorkshire radio station. Quality tunes. 1
Guest Motown Junkies Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Thanks Rick If you ever want to tune in live via the Internet, I'm on between 3-5 (UK) most Sunday afternoons - the link is https://tun.in/seM37. I used to get a lot of "live" listeners online from the States, until the station buggered up the live feed two weeks in a row and then didn't play the midweek repeat when it was working, which I think put people off (either that, or they all just gradually decided the show was crap...) But I can't complain too much because I'm still amazed the station lets me play 2 hours full of obscure Motown demos and B-sides. I'm very lucky; I think, though don't quote me, that this is the only regular 100% Motown show (i.e. playing Motown and nothing but Motown every week), but I'm happy to stand corrected on that. Steve
MOPSEY Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Motown my first love and always will be, just wish we could all go back ,there must be 1000s of tracks never heard . Mopsey
Stateside Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Listened for the first time this afternoon while working and really enjoyed the shows. There are a few Motown radio stations I can pick up with my Sonos, but most of them play the same old chart stuff, so it's great to hear the more obscure tracks. Don't think there is anyone else doing what your doing, here in the north west, since Dave Brown went last year. Nostalgie Motown broadcast from Paris is a bit better than most and you sometimes get a sexy french dj https://tunein.com/radio/Nostalgie-Motown-s148805/ Keep up the great work Kev

Mopsey Motown my first love and always will be, just wish we could all go back ,there must be 1000s of tracks never heard . Mopsey I don't think there are many THOUSANDS of cuts that have never been heard by the public, anymore, after all the vinyl-unreleased cuts that have been released on CD over the past 20 years, plus those that have been released for digital download. But, there certainly must be at least several hundred, perhaps a thousand or two, including pop, gospel, and novelty.

Guest Motown Junkies Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Thread now moved to more appropriate: Radio Forum Regards, Dave (Mod Team) Thanks Dave, I must have missed the announcement to put podcasts/cloudcasts in here instead (the guidelines originally said to put them in AATS) - cheers for moving it.
Guest Motown Junkies Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 This is all excellent stuff Steve! You are providing an essential public service. - Should be on a national network! Sometimes forget how much I love Motown. Thanks SoulStu, I really appreciate it. A national network wouldn't let me get away with playing some of these obscure cuts (and I'm a writer rather than a DJ anyway, they'd need to get someone good to present it.) I'm very happy where I am... and there's lots more to come! (episode 38 was broadcast yesterday, so we're a bit behind...)
Guest Motown Junkies Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 And now, episode 34 (which was recorded and broadcast weeks ago, hence all the World Cup Final stuff):https://www.mixcloud.com/discoveringmotown/thirtyfour/FEATURING: 1.
