How Do We Get Young Djs Spots St Events?

Best thing for the guys to do (as mentioned) is start afresh with their own version of it all and not worry about us lot. And genuinely good luck to them all.

You're right, and some are doing that it seems which is great. Certainly we're lucky down in here in London to have the younger people into it doing exactly that, same in Manchester etc. But that is a case of where they are through the playlists creating their own part of the scene.

Where I work there are 20 year olds on exactly the same money as me, I can guarantee with very few exceptions they all have much more left over than me after outgoings, drive nicer cars,and enjoy nicer holidays,

 

It all depends where on an individuals list of priorities they place original records, and what they are prepared to sacrifice in order to fund them,

I think you are all missing the point.............when we were young we loved the music and just wanted to dance to it. The Dj's were a special breed that somehow had these incredible records.

 

If the young'uns are so into the music, why the fook do they want to be Dj's? If I was 20 I would be dancing all night. That's what the scene needs to have a future, loads of young dancers, not loads of young Dj's playing boots of oldies.

no not just come out of hibernation mate just bored.heres the thing,i would never ridicule anybody about there taste in soul.after the casino and st ives i became a pub manager so time away from work was scarce.went to ns nights when i could , ranthem in my pubs if they were big enough.quit the pubs and had more time on my hands.admittedly i lost touch a little.went to new rare soul nights, wasnt for me.nothing that was played made the hair on my neck stand up like the first time i heard sam dees lonly for you baby or dee dee sharps majestic voice on what kind of lady so i slipped back into my comfort zone.i do sometimes go to caliente in peterborough to listen to what they play but again in doesnt do it for me but again i would never ridicule them .so your childish post from you and your mate only proves a freind of mine rightly sed dont go on soulsources forom its full of pretentius bitter sad obnoxiois know all (know f*ck alls) you could ever wish to meet.last post on here from me ever no great loss you might say and i agree!

My thoughts are this,the scene as we know it will die ,it already is , OVO  is important to me it adds to the pleasure of listening / dancing to it, I understand the time and effort that has gone in to acquiring  it but I am old school ,Many folk don't give a toss if its proper or not,if a youngster comes in and sez to them self " I love this stuff " its the Music they love ,not the baggage and politics that come with it and why should they ,that time has gone ,encourage them and then let them sort there own scene,with out our old fashioned idea's

I wish I had half the amount of top quality 45's some of the younger generation have in their playbox today .

People like Henning ,Callum ,James Pogson ,Alfie and Davide to name only a fraction ,are not just buying ,owning and playing great records ,but are very passionate and knowledgeable individuals who can give most old DJ's the run around behind a set of decks .

 

 

It would be interessting to see a playlist from J. Pogson from ...let's say...3 years ago.

I'm 20 and do occasionally DJ, but I do so for fun every now and again. I do wonder sometimes if I could get more sets out and about at various venues, but to be honest I've never really pushed myself to promoters and have just done sets when invited to do so. I like to think I can play a decent set with good variety to suit venues.

I think he should have bought a different "big lad" if what he spent his money on was already booted so I assume already well known.

 

If it was a carver of a big in-demand tune that is slightly different.

 

I think if you want to dj save your money for the monster no one has.

I think my set sits in the middle ground, theres some out right classics that everyones heard before and some under played gems in there. It's completely different reading a playlist sat at a computer, to actually hearing out loud!

 

I wouldn't suggest that I could compete with the top DJs, I know I cant. But, what I do do is for a bit of fun and it noramlly works. I played a set in a local contempary bar recently mainly 70's stuff to a young audience. That went down really well... But, I'm just learning, having a bit of fun and out to enjoy the music.

For me, djing is an art. It's an extension of who you are. It's also a real privilege to be asked to play records out. I hate seeing it done badly. Why follow the crowd? if you collect oldies then great - but at least play with a bit of imagination.

Absolutely no point copying anyone. That's the main issue for me with the soul scene. Such a remarkable lack of originality. Very few people have the balls to do their own thing.

Right, as a DJ aged only 16… I think pure and simply DJ needs to have passion and a reputation for playing a crowd-pleasing set, as that’s what is about I think, pleasing the crowd. Regardless of what anybody says OVO is the only way to play and there are some great classic original records you can pick up for under £20: Spyder Turner - I Can’t Make It Anymore, Dells - Make Sure, Jean Wells - What Have I Got to Lose, Garnett Mimms - Prove It To Me… When I get booked for a set, I want to get sets because the promoter has booked me for what I will play and how I would try and work the floor and for me, not because I am 16...

If a young soulie was djn on the scene they would already be aware of OVO &boots so when you put your arm around them to tell them the error of their ways their dads will probably tell you to go and do one back to Switzerland 

 

There are young soulies playing boots and young spulies playing OVO.  Leave them to it they will find their way and let's stop wrapping them up in bubble wrap and telling them what to do its their lives let them crack on and find their own way.  

 

Lets remember there is old people playing boots on the scene its their choice just like the kids have a choice

i'm an absolute supporter of Young People coming but i slowly get what is the difference between some younger guys in the uk and the ones in the rest of europe.

to be honest the set you played wouldn't Keep me dancing as there is no surprise, even for me as a middle aged Youngster from switzerland. i give you the advance, but ist just my opinion..dont want to offend you.... to dig a bit deeper. there are so many great tunes around that are overplayed. if you are interested you are invited to drop me a mail and i can suggest you some if you wanna tell what you are after. just an idea.
