Is This The Most Expensive U.k Soul Single

Timi Yuro It Will Never Be Over For Me sold this morning on e bay for £1310 pounds. Has anyone paid more for a U.K soul 45 ?

    That really is double the price it should be though.  Last one I had I sold for £700 and I wouldn't ask more for it now.

i think you are right pete yet four bidders were prepared to pay over £900. i would suggest the next one you sell should be £900 and you would have three phone calls within the hour

I suppose there has to be expensive uk items as well as the usa stuff,and it may as well be the timi yuro,I mean it is a cracking tune all said and done,and its not like you can walk in wh smiths and get one.

 

and others come very close aswell...ie...tony middleton polydor...lenny gamble...casino classics. haha

No I've never had one - I've had one in my hands - to compare it to the vocal - you have to play them otherwise it's just a couple of millimetres difference in the run off groove.

no, it's got clean labels both sides.

Actually I'm in possession of the rarest UK 45 of all-time. Only 5 were test-pressed, 3 were immediately returned to the pressing plant as the release had been cancelled by then due to legal issues, with the other remaining copy being also being retained in a private collection (but not a Northern Soul one).

 

Unfortunately I can't reveal the title since it would cause a legal avalanche as it should never have been pressed in the first place. But it's absolutely the rarest UK pressing of all-time and one I'm keeping anyway. It's the rarest record I've ever owned in 45+ years of collecting and also a monumental record anyway, so I'm happy to be the custodian.

Yeah I'd say so, the Ben E King seems to be a fluke pressing mix up, at least the BH got into the shops - well one shop anyway

Ben E King ICBTNTM? Wasn't that a white label test pressing? I know the person who owned it and that's what it sounded like by how he described it. I know he swapped it for a certain UK tamla demo he needed to  complete his collection.

No, you know the yellow Atlantic demos?  It's like one of those but with blank yellow demo labels and the title was handwritten on, they must have done a few of these test pressings then changed their mind and replaced it with another track (all tracks were on an EP I think) so there is an actual demo for that issue number, but the ICBTN is just on those two or three test presses.

Ah right. I think I got the white label bit mixed up with something else. I know the person who he swapped it with claimed there was at least one other copy so that ties in with what you say about there being a few in existence.

Ian D...I think you have given me a clue with the word 'custodian'? Is it a yellowish label?

I think Mick said he has had 3 Ben E Kings and there is one other making 4 , though that is just from memory and mine is a bit foggy most of the time

Genuine question. How rare is the withdrawn Otis Redding, You Left The Water Running. Knew all about his widow withdrawing it but there's a couple of other versions I prefer so never thought about it much.

The US bootleg 45?  Not rare at all, one on ebay from the same seller every week for years.  Unless you mean a proper withdrawn 45, in which case, sorry, didn't know there was a real one.

Sorry mate checked me facts again it was just the Stone one that was withdrawn, for some reason I'd got it in my head there was a British Atlantic one.

I've a UK Shapiro Bernstein acetate of Ben E King... Was picked up by a UK Band The Dakotas who covered it badly..the b of the Acetate is an unknown female group.I'll stick with the Timi Yuro on the UK Lp.

The Marlena Shaw - Wade In the Water - on UK Chess is quite rare. It was pressed up using Ramsey Lewis labels in the early 70's. I only know of two, and one of those is rough, but there may be others.

It came from one of the London boys but cant remember who,just noticed the guy that bought it from me my dear friend Mick Holdsworth

Hi Pete , I had the  UK Ben E King in the 90's  It was yellow on the A side with just a blank white label  on the I can't break the news side not yellow both sides

That's a weird one then, wonder why would they put a white label on?  Mick's was definitely yellow both sides though.

But was it a 60s press close to the original recording date? It sounds like they didn't have the rights in the end so is technically a boot LOL

This London boy. I said I could get any UK record and Tony Ellis bet me a fiver I couldn't get QOF. I got it but sold him it for not much so he really won the bet. I thought I was going to be retired by the time I was 25 but the guy got cold feet.

Mick wrote his own credits on his first one though so was probably blank both sides, I've got a scan of it somewhere.

No, this was a re-issue of a late 60's recording. Plus not really a boot. Permission had been granted but then got withdrawn just after the TPs had been pressed. So more of a lucky accident really......
