Souledtrafford Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Just wondering if anyone has a listing of what magazines and fanzines have beenpublished over the years and how many issues for each? There was something on the Soulful Kinda Music site, but this is unfortunately notup to date.Any info appreciated.
Guest Dave Ward Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 The worst ever, was 'Northern Noise' I think it was a Wigan Casino fanzine. If there wasn't an all-dayer to go to, then Sunday afternoon hiding in my bedroom, after a 'nighter, feeling like I'm coming down in a lift, my ears screaming with tinnitus from dancing next to the speakers and reading this tripe was something I'll never forget, I think it cost about 50p and ran to 5 or 6 issues (monthly). I soon learned that better value was to be had from half a bottle of Vladivar vodka, which perked me up considerably,

Usualy collated in the back seat of a maxi 1750 on the way to a venue-at new issue time. Aim was to tell the real truth and to uncover dozens of cover ups that consisted of the newies scene play lists- We did really well there being responsible for hundreds of disc's getting the soul source treatment, and becoming accessable by more than just one D.J at a time's playlist. Biggest disc to get the treatment was Joe Mathews- i dont like to loose- thanks to an error of sellotape management by arthur fenn, against the strict instructions by john anderson to keep said disc under wraps. greatest good to come out of this venture was, and still is, the huge amount of great friends made who had like wise love for "OUR" scene. biggest influences on the direction of the magazine were the Richard searlings, Martin Barnfathers, ian clarks, kev roberts, - andersons-manships-sousons-philips-selecta disc, globals, withers- shards- widdowsons-greets-clarks-raistricks-wherrys-raes-frank & twinks-levines & curtis- brady;s & vincents, bollingtons-coppels-winstanleys even- hennigans- thorleys- darge-McCutcheon-lawson-croasdale stewart- smith- even brick - durden- burton- indeed anyone who understood the true meaning of a progressive musical dance scene and its operation and direction...........WHAT GREAT FRIENDS. We have been responsible also for the introduction and or influences to the scenes top players at one time or another including Mary chapmans, Chris Kings, Gary Rushbrookes, Rob Marroits Mark Dobson's Gillys- malloy'sETC ETC ETC Like wise we have all been influenced by the sheer power of the regular venue attenders whoose general direction was to dance to NEW and EXCITING and UNHEARD soul dance music. WOW---Lest We Forget!!! I loved this magazine but the thing that made me laugh was that if there was a mistake made, they didn't bother tippexing over it and doing it again, they just crossed it out and carried on. Also remember things like Silky Hargraves Love lets Try It Again and Tobi Lark Challenge My Love being on sale on the back page for £3 each.
