Jordirip Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 The seller's being completely straight though, no deception, it's just the dimbulb bidders who are the idiots here. I wonder what I'd get for my gold styrene boot. 1
Mick Boyle Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I ebayed one the same as, last year and got £20.00 Whats the world coming to
Guest in town Mikey Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I've got a mint one. Must be worth about 600 I reckon.
Modernsoulsucks Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 surely his mates are running it up for him. He's a member on here and lives very near me. Im guessing he's as surprised as the rest of you. And he hasn't got any mates. Looks like two lunatics bidding against each other. ROD 2
Kev John Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Ive just got 2 things to say about this atb Kev Edited March 31, 2014 by Kev John
Pat Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I paid more than that for mine.......BUT IT'S ORIGINAL Alan
Frankie Crocker Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 The £100 bidder with 100% bid activity looks mighty suspicious. The bids are totally senseless given the record has been described as a reissue.
John Benson Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I paid more than that for mine.......BUT IT'S ORIGINAL Alan I paid £2 for mine.... And it's an original! mind you it was around 1974 and the boots at that time were those dull red ones! Those were the days, when originals were offloaded for a pittance as soon as they were booted 2

Anyone want a copy of that, £7.00" It was Dana Valery ...Interest. Edited March 31, 2014 by Guest
Campagnolo 1 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Nutters.!!!!! but well done Panny. Car boot fine I bet.??
Chris L Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I do hope it's not one of those crappy vinyl ones, they sound like they were recorded in a Woolworths booth !!
Chris L Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121303396289?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Or you could go with this one !!!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUKE-BROWNER-CRYING-OVER-YOU-IMPACT-Records-70s-Vinyl-Reissue-/181364443821?pt=UK_Records&hash=item2a3a29caad

Anyone want a copy of that, £7.00" It was Dana Valery ...Interest. I have Russ saying this on a live tape dated 31/4/74, ' anybody want a copy of that, seven quid' - Dana Valery was played at least five times in the main room at Wigan that night.

Steve L Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Mmmmmmm I guess it begs the question what he/ she COULD have bought for £180 - 3 tasty £60 sides perhaps?? You'd need a brain to to that 1
Sean Hampsey Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I had a mint original given to me many years ago as part payment for a lift home. Got rid of it within a fortnight. Always been an absolute cacophony to these ears! Sean
Modernsoulsucks Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Must admit it does sound as if he's singing against rather than with the backing track. ROD 2
Mellorful Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Looking at ebay it appears there are some white label copies coming out so presume in a couple of weeks another boot will be out with a copied label. I didn't realise how desperate people are to own a real bootleg, for half that amount they could have my maroon label bootleg copy. I can't afford a real 1st issue Duke browner at £500 so got myself a legitimate release in the form of a Grapevine copy, I wonder what that's worth these days?
Frankie Crocker Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 My Duke Browner was from Minch! Perhaps we should re-name the upstairs kiosk at Wigan the Boot Room? Keith Minshall must have shifted half of Simon Soussan's product via this emporium. In those days, no one really bothered about OVO as the sound was more important than the format. 1

Yep The kiosk on the left hand side balcony is where we used to queue up for the latest pressings on offer & bought them like sheep, but hey I wouldnt have 1/2 of my records without them & there quoted as 2nd releases on some sellers sites $$$$ ALF
Julianb Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 . In those days, no one really bothered about OVO as the sound was more important than the format. Sorry, I have to disagree with you on this - we wouldn't touch Soul Sounds or OOTP etc etc with a bargepole!
Labeat Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I did have it on tape and that`s how I remember it so vividly......He also says "And its 8 for Russell Steel"......now, I can`t remember the Russell Steel track. Russell Steel is a big soul collector from Barnsley, wonder if RW was referring to him? 1
Guest Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Russell Steel is a big soul collector from Barnsley, wonder if RW was referring to him? There was definitely a record played at Wigan by Russell Steel and Russ was selling it along with DV.
Guest Bri C Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I sold the same on eBay 12 months ago for £95 couldn't believe it!
Labeat Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 There was definitely a record played at Wigan by Russell Steel and Russ was selling it along with DV. ang on Steve, ha ha, i'm a bit confused here (doesn't take much), i thought RW was saying about the £7 record "and it's £8 for Russell Steel" (in jest) I only went to Wigan the 1st 18months, Russell Steel sounds a white mans name... never heard of him... was he famous? it can't be Russ from Barnsley
Guest Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 ang on Steve, ha ha, i'm a bit confused here (doesn't take much), i thought RW was saying about the £7 record "and it's £8 for Russell Steel" (in jest) I only went to Wigan the 1st 18months, Russell Steel sounds a white mans name... never heard of him... was he famous? it can't be Russ from Barnsley You could be right....never thought of it that way. Mind you it was 40 years ago and the tape was lost maybe 30 of those years ago. Add to that the amount of brain cells that come off down those years and........you maybe correct.
Guest Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I have Russ saying this on a live tape dated 31/4/74, ' anybody want a copy of that, seven quid' - Dana Valery was played at least five times in the main room at Wigan that night. You still have the tape to check the above?
Labeat Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 You still have the tape to check the above? Nah, missed it, i must av been at Leeds Central that week-end; Somebody will eventually back your theory up. You've still got me with Russ steel tho', you sure you weren't dreamin
Guest Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 It could be one of those twisted lyric type of things.....it sounds like one thing but he says another. eg: "Beelsibub has the devil for a cyborg" Anyway, Mr Frankie Crockett may still have the said tape.
John Benson Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I doubt very much it being Barnsley's Russ Steele, not in 1974 - he would have still been at school then! Unless the Oldsoulman himself cares to tell us different? 1
Podge Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Bit of a wake up call for me, I always pass by boots I know they are, maybe have to pick them up now, fair play to the seller though, no messing,,,,,,, listed as a 70's reissue.
Shsdave Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I have Russ saying this on a live tape dated 31/4/74, ' anybody want a copy of that, seven quid' - Dana Valery was played at least five times in the main room at Wigan that night. must have been a bootleg tape with that date
Davetay Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Nutters.!!!!! but well done Panny. Car boot fine I bet.?? Off the tip more like knowing Panny, lol.
Frankie Crocker Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 You still have the tape to check the above? Yep. No reference to Russell Steel. Mind you, I was recording start-stop for much of the 90 minutes duration which explains why there are five takes of Dana Valery and five of Butch Baker in amongst the longer sections. As I know of no track by Russell Steel, Russ could well be referring to someone in the Casino.
Frankie Crocker Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 must have been a bootleg tape with that date No, it is a live tape made by yours truly on that specific night, my second visit to the Casino having been the previous Saturday.
Shsdave Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 No, it is a live tape made by yours truly on that specific night, my second visit to the Casino having been the previous Saturday. No Frankie I was being an arse because there's only 30 days in April
Frankie Crocker Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 No Frankie I was being an arse because there's only 30 days in April Apologies Dave. The date should read 31/3/74. My error. The plug from Russ is as clear as day as he says it twice. When I die, I want the tape to go to a museum in Wigan. Went to the Wigan museum a few years ago and there was a small Casino exhibition - one day, I hope this will grow. There is also a sound archive in the north west where stuff like this should end up... ATB
