Came across Toby Bullard on Flodavieur while sorting through some boxes.

Listen

I think the consensus was that they're a boot, but done quite a while ago (70's). The last one I saw didn't have a b side, it had completley been obliterated, being sanded off on an angle grinder, if you can imagine what I mean. The owner thought it may have been a different artist which would have given away the fact that it was a boot.

at least if you buy the Lyrics on GNP CRESCENDO

you know its a genuine release. same record diff label

If you look at a lot of one sided singles they are the same as this, so of course they are all boots, silly answer. Whether it is a boot is another thing but one sided argument is wrong.

Toby Bullard was a repro like so many before and after it. Found on a master tape (i suspect) and pressed to look like and sold as an original circa 2000. Alledgedly the original story was 13 found on a garage floor hence the scratches on the play side. Fortunately it only pressed one side with music, leaving the flipside so shiny new it was an obvious repro. So out came the sandpaper..to resemble those single sided Arctic promo's of the 60s.

Didn't fool anyone really. Especially as you can now find it with a non-sand-papered side, all glossy and new.

Good choice of label, but the label is owned by Dave Polk who's publishing company (if I remember right )is Datan which is missing from the label credits.

Sort of a USA, attempt to emulate Four Vandals, Venicia Wilson

Pretty worthless 45 in my opinion.

I've herd rumours about this 45, as to where it actually came from, originally of a acetate i think, poor recording on the discs if you ask me  great record though

so why was it released then ???

when the identical track

by the Lyrics "So Glad" was issued on GNP

It has to be the same one is it not.??

or am I missing something as usual

If you play the Lyrics and the Tony Bullard back to back they are different (I have both). One is quicker than the other and has a different bass sound (if that makes sense) although the Lyrics record could have been re-mastered or something. What do I know

If the Bullard is a boot then its more likely that it has been

doctored and not the Lyrics.

I still say its the same record just repressed slightly

dif speed..you cant hear any difference in the vocal so to me sounds like the same singer.

Im fairly certain it came off an accetate credited to Toby or a master tape one of the two, but the whole sound quality of the 45 suggests it was a acetate.

Apparently it was found on an acetate, i've been inform. The guy who found it didn't know the Lyrics on GNP and maybe thought he's found a real winner so pressed it on vinyl.

These were done by Mike Noriega(Best-Side Records on Ebay) around 2000. A friend of mine saw a stack of these in his garage with sandpaper nearby.... :P

Definitely bootlegs!

BOOT OR NOT (WHICH I,M SURE IT IS) IT'S A GREAT RECORD AND ONE THAT SEEMS TO FETCH A FEW QUID ON EBAY!

PERSONALLY IT WAS A RECORD I HEARD ON MP3 AND WANTED TO OWN ON VINYL .I ACTUALLY GAVE £15 FOR IT ,MINES THE ONE SIDED (NOT SAND PAPERED) .

UNLESS I'M MISTAKEN A BOOT WOULD COST A INDIVIDUAL AROUND £20 ,SO I DON'T FEEL RIPPED OFF .MATE OF MINE SOLD ONE FOR £60 ON EBAY AND WHILST CHECKING THAT POPSIKE SITE IT ACTUALLY WENT FOR$154(ABOUT £90) BACK IN DECEMBER 04.

CONSIDER IT AN ODDBALL THAT HAS IT'S RIGHTFUL PLACE ON THE SOUL SCENE AND ENJOY IT

I agree with your sentiments Mike. Folk should do the scene a favour and leave alone, do like Gash says and buy the Lyrics. Sand papered or not still from the same batch and still a boot. I know a mate payed summat like $200 for this, he didn't realise it was a boot till I told him.
