Steve S 60 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 It'll be an interesting watch, but I doubt there'll be many surprises as to what's in the top twenty.
Dave Moore Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Good Thing 100%. Music at the core of it, not 'a scene', 'DJs', 'gymnastic dancers who hear nothing but a beat'. There'll be no surprises, but then it's a celebration of the labels success in reaching and entertaining a huge audience, the likes of which had never been done by a single record label before. Berry Gordy, H-D-H, Smokey, et al..... what's not to like? Regards, Dave 2
Chalky Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Whilst it could be a good think, well any exposure is good I guess, it will be totally mainstream and can't see it going much beyond the chart stuff. Be interesting if could get something like Suspicion or Forever In My Heart in there?
Chalky Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I watched the Elvis one and it was a great 90 minutes viewing. The Motown one should be every bit as good. Who chooses the panel that votes and how representative are they 1
Guest Polyvelts Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'm putting my money on 'I heard it through the grapevine' being number one.

If its as accurate and relevant as the Northern Soul documentaries, they will come up with Freda Payne Band of Gold. 6
Guest Polyvelts Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 well by rights (biggest seller) it should be 'I just called to say I loved you"
Cunnie Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Got a telling off on another site for saying my personal favourite Motown related track was Battened Ships - Oddyssey. Thing is Motown is a broad church so you have to include things like Called To Say I Love You by Stevie & Never Been To Me by Charlene. Think Baby Love - Supremes might win it though closely followed by Marvin, Four Tops etc. Be interesting to do a Soul Source version - Mike?
Mike Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 yep could quite easy do a off the cuff one one member one vote as in... each member just has to post up one post with ya nomination and reason (if wish) - a tied down period -say 2 weeks ? shall we do it ? 2

Mike Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 can you start off as just out? both of us count/look after
Dave Moore Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Commodores - Three Times A Lady. Thing is with this types of songs even though they were absolutely massive in terms if commercial success, they aren't the ones that immediately bring the Motown sound, as most people would recognise it, into mind. The key word being 'favourite'. I'd wager one of the following may well top the list. Supremes - Baby Love. Four Tops - Reach Out Tempts - Get Ready What?? No.... Martha And The Vandellas - Dancing In The Street Stevie Wonder - Uptight! Temptations - My Girl Marvin Gaye - Heard It Through The Grapevine Ain't easy is it? Regards, Dave

Guest MBarrett Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 (edited) Got to think of this on 2 levels obviously. Firstly which 20 will the programme makers choose? And then which of those will the erudite and discerning ( ) British public vote for? I wouldn't mind betting that Endless Love wins or is very near the top. It ticks lots of boxes. Two for the price of one i.e. Diana Ross and Lionel Richie, the ladies love it, it's one of the later Motown hits so will hit a wider age range etc. etc. Even if not that one something by Lionel Richie has to be up there. I can't believe Michael Jackson won't be near the top either with the Jackson 5 or one of his solo efforts on Motown. Quite likely things that still get regular radio/disco play like Dancing in the Street and Heard It Through The Grapevine. I Called To Say I Love You?? That would be my stab at ones that will be in or around the top 5. I'll come back afterwards crowing - or with my tail between my legs. Edited March 30, 2014 by MBarrett
Sceneman Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 3rd finga left hand for my vote ,its corny i know but a Birds Nest favorite play.
Jordirip Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 my money is on " dancing in the street " Yeah, it'll be another excuse to trot out the clip of Jagger and Bowie hamming it up with their version. 1
Podge Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Whatever the titles are, it will be worth watching for the history behind the songs, no doubt some nice little ditties will be told,,,,,,, and that for me is worth watching it.
JOE TORQUAY Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 depends if berry gordy has a say as to what will come first + who's still around to interview, joe.
