Quinvy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Mighty lovers C/U for Butch. I know I bang on about this but it is pure quality Northern Soul. Trouble is Byrney, only a small proportion of the people on the scene will have even heard it. I agree though it's fantastic, I always ask Butch to play it. 1

Quinvy Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 True, I still haven't heard it, would love to Pete, I can send you a "live" recording I did at the first Lifeline Allnighter. Pretty poor quality, but you can get the gist of it. Let me know if you are interested mate.
Popular Post Geoff Posted March 28, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 28, 2014 It's down to personal choice I suppose. How about: Mixed Feelings - Sha La La Lil Major Williams - Girl You're So Sweet To Me Tiarras - Foolish Girl - thanks to Paul McKay for playing these 3 last night at Masters Of Soul Joseph Webster - My Love Is Strong The Poets - Wrapped Around Your Finger The Vanguards - Good Times Bad Times Salt & Pepper - A Man Of My Word Billy Byrd - Lost In A Crowd Chico Lamarr - What Do You Think Two Plus Two - I'm Sure / Lookaround Tommy Knight - Don't Bring Back Memories The Ravins - Your Love Is What I Want The Sensations - Demanding Man Angela Davis & The Mighty Chevelles - My Love Is Strong Willie Coco - Message To Society J T Parker - If You Want To Hold On Sag War Fare - Don't Be So Jive Doc Peabody - Here Without You The Four Dynamics - Things That A Lady Ain't Supposed To Do The Mello Souls - We Can Make It Margaret Little - Love Finds A Way Sandy Golden - Your Love Is Everything Arthur Willis - The Hurting Is Over plus my favourite Butch cover ups Jean Carter - I Wanna Know Martha Jean Love - That's The Way The Story Goes / Old Time Lover Sorry it's a fairly long list but these tunes fill the dance floor at the nighters I attend. 1 12
Guest in town Mikey Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Is Margaret Little - Love Finds A Way in the last 10 years? I'm useless at time frames. Possibly the biggest tune of the last 10 years. Tobi Bowe's version of I can feel him slipping away had its 5 minutes in the sun as well. Maybe hasnt stood the test of time as well as Margaret Little tho.

Reg Scott Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) Oldies scene or upfront? Don't like to discriminate but I'd say those tunes that generally became the biggest and best in the opinion of the good people of SS over the last ten years or so - so re-activated tunes would be included but not 'nostalgia' tunes as good as many are. Had a couple of really good responses so far but would love to hear from more members. Edited March 28, 2014 by ClearVinyl 1

Steve L Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Just to repeat whats already been mentioned, for me the top ones have been Mighty Lovers c/u ( the best of the lot ) Jean Carter Parliaments Primers Top class as good as anything ever played IMO 1
Winsford Soul Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Pattrinel Staten . Little love affair. Think was about 10 years back when I first heard it. Steve 1 2
Russ Vickers Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Pattrinel Staten . Little love affair. Think was about 10 years back when I first heard it. Steve At least 2001 was being played at the 100 Club, but these things do take time these days...brilliant record too... Best Russ 2
Russ Vickers Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Phil started a thread recently, some thing like where have all the big lads gone, meaning the classic rareities, well IMHO most mentioned on this thread so far could be placed in this category, its not just about the classics, altho some of these I think of as classics now, as good as many played in the golden era & better in some cases. Best Russ
Winsford Soul Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 At least 2001 was being played at the 100 Club, but these things do take time these days...brilliant record too... Best Russ Thanks Russ. Think it was Bretby I first heard it, could have been slightly before, not sure. Definitely later than 2001 for me . Steve
Chalky Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Pattrinel Staten . Little love affair. Think was about 10 years back when I first heard it. Steve Was long time ago as it was Keb who found it with John Manship, not sure if Keb played it first or moved it on to Butch or if Butch found another copy. 2
Chalky Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Some cover ups... Butch Little Ceasar, Jesse Davis and his Joe Adams Stop acetate. Andy Dysons Up The Hill cover up, not sure if he has given it an artist? And his Joe Cook cover up, I think that is what it is covered up as. 1
Guest gordon russell Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 ike and tina turner .........STRANGE........big sound for Danny melvin davis ......lucielle big sound for Karl heard
Popular Post Steve L Posted March 28, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 28, 2014 One thing is for sure, there's been some great records played in recent times as this thread shows. A nice antidote to the one show bollox and what the scene should be about, pity it won't get as much attention. The right people and the right venues are out there 4

Emory & dynamics - lets take a look.
Labeat Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Celebrities - I choose you . Kevin, YOU DIDN'T TELL THE TRUTH
Douglaschip Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Maybe last 13 / 14 years but surely Hamilton Movement - She's gone - worth a mention for feelgood and floor friendly dancer! Adam 1
Raresoul45s Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 how about Henry C Country Girl Andy Dyson has been hammering it, Emeralds on Vick both sides proper northern, Mighty Lovers the best of the lot. Ruby Andrews Its beautiful absolutely fantastic. Henry C is a great tune Ted I've also played it out a few times, not well known though but proper northern and I'd I also throw Bernie Moore in to. These two certainly not the biggest tunes of the last 10 years but two of the best. Cheers Darren

The bbc would have performed a more valuable service if it'd fucked the one show off and filled the half hour playing these instead ]

Reg Scott Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Add Rudy Love into the mix. You meaning 'Suffering Wrath' Kev? If so, then I think there was spins of this little Canyon beauty some time before - possibly Butch.
Labeat Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Morning all. Iv'e scanned the whole lot quoted so far.... some damn good tracks, but for me (which i think is missing) is the cream of the crop..... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ...... "_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _" They don't come much Bigger & Better ???
Labeat Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 What about Sam's Tommy Dent.... "Soul Thing".... awesome through venue speakers! 3
Chalky Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 melvin davis ......lucielle big sound for Karl heard reactivation, Dean Anderson first. Emory & dynamics - lets take a look. Don't forget the other one, Things That A Lady. Take A Look goes back to the mid 80's though. 1
Realpeoplesmusic Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Here's my input...agree with most that have been posted: Little Suzie c/u - big Karl heard spin Sacred Four - somebody watching you Jimmy Phillips - she belongs to me 1
Guest Matt Male Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Only heard these in the last ten years (i'm sure someone will put me right if they were played before that) Joey Irving - There's a man/Can you handle me Susie and Soul Serenaders - Can You Win Sunrise Movement - Running Wild Rudy Mockabee - Sweet Thing
Quinvy Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Unfortunately quite a few of the 45's being lauded in this thread are very poor records. Just my opinion of course. The Little Suzi tune isn't really a cover up, it's a Sue Rainey 45 with the wrong label on it. Played by Cliff Camfield for a year or so until Karl persuaded him to sell it. Never did anything for me personally. Tommy Dent was being played by Richard Lewis long before Sam. Again does nowt for me. The Sir Guy thing is ghastly. The Precisions is very messy and another example of rarity over quality. Just my humble opinion, and the reason I don't bother going out anymore.
Russ Vickers Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Then maybe ya should, ya miserable git, both the Precisions & Sir Joe rammed the floor at Lifeline lol Hope ya well mate Russ 1
Russ Vickers Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 You meaning 'Suffering Wrath' Kev? If so, then I think there was spins of this little Canyon beauty some time before - possibly Butch. Was played at the Mecca originally. Russ 1

Yes Tommy Dent a New York tune.Sam snagged the one frm JM's auction.Get yourself out Phil.!!
KevH Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Was played at the Mecca originally. Russ I've heard this said before Russ, have no recollection of this myself.A Cliff Steele spin, but wouldnt be suprised if had been tried before.I put this on the thread because of the reaction in the last few years. 1
