Benji Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Had plays in the past. Although more on the 6T's/Mod scene I believe. There's a Youtube poster who claims it was a late Wigan Casino by R. Searling but I think that's just rubbish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL4oU2Kr2yI 1

Guest Jolly Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The Sammy Davis jnr track Was found in an electrical shop in Prestonpans in about 1979 by Alan Bonerhrone! Who sold it to Bruce Hanning! Bruce played it in Mr Ms! It was a big sound at the Clouds all nighters! Bruce was a good friend of Richard Searling but I don't think Richard ever played it!
Guest Garry Huxley Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Thats what i like about this site I bow to your superior knowledge
Benji Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm sure that this was played at Wigan, i used to have it on a tape from maybe 79 (long gone). That really surprises me. Not that I think SDjr is crap. But it certainly doesn't sound like a big hall Northern record to me. More like a 60s Mod sound. BTW, german UA as well.
Guest penny Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I played it a few times in the 90s, when all that swinging 60s stuff was popular, but I dont think it'd work on the mod scene now, for the same reason that it used to be popular - it's all a bit swinging 60s and unsophisticated
Guest Gogs Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 That really surprises me. Not that I think SDjr is crap. But it certainly doesn't sound like a big hall Northern record to me. More like a 60s Mod sound. BTW, german UA as well. Had the tape for years and this was definitely on it, have been trying to remember some of the other tracks, i know that 1 was "country girl" 1 of my favourite tracks at the time.
Guest penny Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 The riff in this is similar to the short instrumental break in Sammy's 'if I could talk to the animals', which, incidentally, was also played a few times at Wigan circa late november 1977.
Guest Jolly Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) Hi Gogs You might be right about Sammy Davis jnr getting played in the big room at Wigan! I banged my head off the wall a few times! And once the dust settled! Bruce! I think did get Richard to play it for the Scots mob!( but my memory is a but cloudy) Probably the night he Was DJ ing in Mr Ms! Lots of Scots were down that night! Not a Searling record by any stretch of the imagination! But him and Bruce were very good friends! And for dancers of an acrobatic persuasion! It was perfect to dance to And was very popular up here at the time. So would have filled the floor with us nut jobs! Mr Bonthrone might remember ? Edited March 27, 2014 by Jolly

Thinking back to the tape i had, i'm sure that it was RS that played it.I should have made another copy before it got knackered. I remember it getting played at clouds as well.

Guest Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Also came out on a 7" in Japan...and if you like that track and keeping with the danceable soundtrack theme, try this one from B.J.Baker (flip to a theme from "Ironside"!)...a former Miss Alabama as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuogM8_iukE 2
