Monday 4pm September 1980:

I'm on the top deck, front seat, of the School Bus home (512), one cig left in me packet as Baz Hawkins had scammed the other outta me outside T Block and am wondering whether to have it now or after me tea.

The double decker is meandering it's way from Culcheth, the tops of the tree's twatting the windows as they do - it's sunny.

We arrive in Croft and as that lot get off the bus at The Horseshoe, I get me tape recorder out me satchel.

I'd been to Wigan (Casino) the Saturday just gone and had C90d Searlings set but not played the recording yet.

I think 'f*ck it!' and spark me fag up just as I hit PLAY on me little hand held Sony recorder...

....and this comes out the speaker...Happy Days!! :D

nice post mate, good memories for ya, hope yr ok Barry, still soulin, hey they do a cracking Sunday lunch in the horshoe...phil

Don't know where Culcheth is mate (Manchester way?), but that is (and has always been) a very, very, very good record indeed! I first heard it on holiday on a barge in the Norfolk Broads, very early 80s - thanks to a tape from my mate Kev Smith - I think he might have taped it of a Radio Hallam show called, wait for it, 'Richard Searling's Soul Source' (Sauce?). Thanks for reminding me what an awesome sound that is - Northern in a nutshell.

Had it on a live WC tape. First was Eddie Holman Where I,m not wanted, then RS says If Dave Evisons ankles held out here is the Nomads. Always thought it SHOULD have been covered as Detroit Soul. GREAT TUNE
