The Phantom Janitor Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Velvet Hammer, Happy up to £411 on Manships Auction, just shows what a video on you tube can do, hope Levannas on commission. 1
Mick Boyle Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Had one in me sales box for a year at £70 - same label No fecker touched it Bet they would now
jocko Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I assume the plain pink one is only worth £350 now, I could probably do one at a 75% discount of that....... 1
Pomonkey Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Just hope the are singers getting something out of this, had a dream that when Pharrell came on stage last month at the Emmy's to do his corny current version he'd step aside and let them take over to show the world what real soul is but then woke up, darn The live version is way better but that's a Dig Deeper exclusive of course 2
Ernie Andrews Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Its got an hour to go on JMs - Velvet hammer at 450+ Ive said the record buying scene is Phooked and this proves it! 1

The Phantom Janitor Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 You have to hand it to Mr Manship hes a very good business man, he sure knows when to auction a record, I remember he did it with the flirtations nothing but a heartache when it was on a TV advert, cant remember how much it went for though.
Mark4767 Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 I bought a copy of the garnett mimms = as long as I have you = mint uk demo = £20 of manship 2 or 3 years ago, it had just been issued on a cd box set for fathers day, sold it for £230.00 ??????????????
Guest JIM BARRY Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Is it the same tune as pharrel Williams.....doesn't sound like it to me, different words too!!!
Quinvy Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 It's always been a fantastic record, just goes to show the power of publicity.
Popular Post Quinvy Posted March 19, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 19, 2014 Is it the same tune as pharrel Williams.....doesn't sound like it to me, different words too!!! The only thing in common is the title. One is a great soul record, the other isn't. 4
Guest Gogs Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I was surprised when i saw that he had put this up as an auction item, but not as surprised as i am now.
Jim G Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 One here for £44, not multi coloured label, plain white. Not seen it before, it is USA seller, is it original? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Velvet-Hammer-Rare-Modern-Soul-7-Happy-Party-Hardy-Soozi-112-Unplayed-M-/260831882226?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item3cbacaabf2

Mark R Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Gave my multi coloured issue away years ago to a friend...& no I dont regret it, nice record but still only worth £20 really... Russ Hi Russ, Funny thing is, I'd need to be desperate for cash to get rid of mine as the label is just toooo pretty!! Cheers, Mark R
Soul-slider Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I'd sell my multi-coloured NM copy but what would I get for it realistically?
Henrun Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Sold on the 16th for £62.00 on ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310892998501?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 That seems a fair price, one I would happily pay.
Only Dreaming Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 I'd sell my multi-coloured NM copy but what would I get for it realisticaIly I sold my original multicoloured issue copy a few weeks ago on E-bay for £100, would have got more but it played with slight distortion on the high notes. Dave
Only Dreaming Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Sold on the 16th for £62.00 on ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310892998501?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 That seems a fair price, one I would happily pay. It would have sold for twice that had it played perfectly. Luckily the seller play graded the record and was honest in his discription regarding sound depreciation. I wonder if all e-bay sellers are as accurate in their gradings, considering that most (all??) original copies of the record are styrene. Dave 1
Modernsoulsucks Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Candy floss pap first time around. Now recently linked to Pharrell Williams via the video, "Footsee" for 2014.ROD 2
Sjclement Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Is it the same tune as pharrel Williams.....doesn't sound like it to me, different words too!!! Its all down to the subtle art of "sampling" Old soul boys can have hours of fun listening to the newies and trying to figure where that hook originally came from
Godzilla Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Just hope the are singers getting something out of this, See below. Is it the same tune as pharrel Williams.....doesn't sound like it to me, different words too!!! Correct Jim! The only thing in common is the title. One is a great soul record, the other isn't. Correct Quinvy! Its all down to the subtle art of "sampling" Old soul boys can have hours of fun listening to the newies and trying to figure where that hook originally came from Buzzz! Incorrect Sjclement! Although in fairness it's almost identical - except for the tune and the words that is. If giving a song the same title as another qualifies as sampling then surely Ken Dodd should be in for at least a bit of dosh for "Happiness" as it shares almost all the letters found in Happy and is thematically linked to boot. Now can we stop talking about these two boring records and maybe expend a bit of energy on something else. Like my criminally ignored topic about a German blue eyed soul 45 for instance 2

I thought they were all vinyl???
Soul Shrews Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Didn"t we work out on here some time ago that the pink ones came first and then the multi coloured ? Cheers Paul (who dumped his pink one BITD after seeing a multi coloured and thinkilng he had a boot)

Mick Holdsworth Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Is it the same tune as pharrel Williams.....doesn't sound like it to me, different words too!!! This P Williams song seems as far removed from Velvet Hammer as William Bell. Must admit, I just don't hear anything similar, other than the tempo, (In the same way that "I Am Nothing" by Al Williams has the same tempo as "She Love You" by the Beatles - absolutely nothing in common other than this one aspect - just about) Is this why people have been putting threads up about an instrumental cover version of Pharrel Williams? - I didn't realise it was being associated with Velvet Hammer until I read this thread, and couldn't understand the point of those "cover" threads from a couple of weeks ago. Godzilla Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I thought you would be too! Here you go: I was hoping Benji or Marc might chip in as well, to be honest
Pete S Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I thought you would be too! Here you go: I was hoping Benji or Marc might chip in as well, to be honest Sadly I can't add anything to the conversation I'm afraid. 1
Guest gaz thomas Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Pink second, Multi 1st was always the thought. Both originals are they not ? Multi coloured styrene west coast press, cream east coast vinyl press that's what I understood the difference to be
Benji Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I thought you would be too! Here you go: I was hoping Benji or Marc might chip in as well, to be honest I did. 1
Guest east rob Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Harrison copied "Oh Happy Day" for My Sweet Lord, did Pharrell Williams have anything to do with that?
